Greetings all!
I've recently
finished a 5e Campaign that's been running for a bit, and have opted for a
change of pace. I poured through all the different systems I'm decently
familiar with before finally on SIFRP. Like a lot of people I'm in love with
the series as a whole. The books are amazing, the show was entertaining, and
there's just so much lore to facilitate a great RP Setting. However, each time
I either join or attempt to run an SIFRP game somethings happens and it ends
only a few sessions in. This time I intend to keep that from happening.
This campaign will
come with a decent amount of Buy-In. I'm attempting to curtail the issues that
I've seen cause most games to fall apart. I understand if that irks some people,
but know I do it because I want a long and immersive campaign to unfold.
The Buy-In
Time & Day: Day
will be either Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday depending on what works best for
selected players. Time will be after 3PM CST, exact time will also be decided
on by the group.
Frequency: Weekly
Sessions.
Length: 4-6 Hours.
Things move slower online than IRL. Because of that I prefer longer Sessions. I
will shoot for a 4 hour playtime each Session, with possibility of going longer
if the group agrees.
Players Needed: 4-5
Theme: I like
everything the game facilitates, but I really want to explore Intrigue. It
works great in this system and it's something you can't really get in most
others. Other than that, expect a mixture of combat and social events.
Starting Time
Period: One year following the Greyjoy Rebellion. It's close enough to the series
for people to have a familiarity with The Seven Kingdoms, but far enough away
where we don't have to worry about META. Our game will be diverging from Canon
anyway, so it's not a big thing.
Starting Realm: I've
decided to have us start in The Reach. It's a large region with many houses and
bordered by many other realms. I've made this decision instead of letting the
players deliberate and choose to remove one of the hurdles I've seen so many of
these games face. Someone wanting something completely different, being
outvoted, and left feeling dejected.
Characters & Our
House: This is the section that will likely turn the most people off,
especially if you come from a primarily D&D background. A lot of us are
used to making exactly what we want and it just sort of working. SIFRP doesn't
do that. There is a certain degree of understanding that characters have to fit
within the confides of the House, and mesh well enough to allow the game
unfold. (Even if the characters are actively working against one another.)
The Lord & Lady
of our House will be NPC's. I've ran in to far too many issues with allowing a
player to be one, and learned heartily why the book recommends you NPC them.
Aside from that,
another major issue I've seen, is NO ONE MAKING HEIRS. For some reason people
have a serious aversion to making children of the House we're a part, in a game
about nobility and intrigue. It baffles me. Because of this I am instituting a rule
that at least two players must make a noble of our House. If no one wants to do
it upfront, WE WILL ROLL to see who does it. Of course everyone is free to make
a noble of the family if they wish.
DISCLAIMER: This is
AGOT. This is a Dark Fantasy world with dark themes. Let's all be adults here
and deal with the implications of that in stride. If you don't like that stuff,
if it triggers you or makes you uncomfortable, don't apply. I'm not nearly a
good enough GM to balance real life and then attempt to keep those sort of
concerns in play. LFG to those interested: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/288683/strife-of-kings
