Compendium drag and drop issues

I'm not sure if this is a Roll20 issue or a user error, but I find the compendium drag-and-drop (for monsters) either buggy or non-intuitive.  is there a how-to guide somewhere that I'm missing? Basically i'm just trying to look up monsters/creatures, drag them to the tabletop, and use them quickly.  but I find that they often don't appear at all; or if they do appear they're missing all the information and token - just a weird white square with a stick figure outline.

When you drag it out, are you letting it fully resolve before closing the sheet?  If you interrupt the process, you will get a blank or only partially created sheet.  Also, once you have an entry in the journal, any further drag/drop actions won't overwrite it (so that you can edit a creature and not have the compendium undo your work).  If you have any of the blank sheets in the journal, you need to delete them (or rename them) or else the compendium will simply reuse what is already in your journal.
thanks!  I think the issue was the closing the sheet - I was closing it (because I didn't want to see it) didn't realize that was part of the copy process. On the journal question - what's the process to edit to a custom version but still be able to pull others over?  Rename the one in my journal?
