Deep
beneath the glacier, an ancient evil slumbers. One thousand years have passed
since it last stirred. A month ago, a come struck the ice, causing "the
Melt" which destroyed the communities of the Luna Valley. While trying to
protect the survivors and refugees, our heroes discover that what the comet has
unleashed on the world threatens to devastate not only this small secluded
outpost, but entire civilisations, if it cannot be contained. Throughout their
adventures, our heroes will discover clues about the nature and the history of
the plague, and its thousand-year cycle. They will discover forgotten ruins and
treasure hoards, recover ancient artifacts and magic, battle deranged cultists
seeking to use the plague to bring about the apocalypse, and defend the
desparate people of the valley, already squabbling over their diminishing
resources.
From
the minds of James Introcaso and John Four, the campaign combines elements of
traditional hexcrawl survival, political intrigue among ambitious leaders
seeking to claim the remains of the valley, classic dungeon delving, and more.
This is a long-term campaign, which will be played weekly at the same time over
Roll20 and Discord.
The
campaign combines various different styles of people. The grim situation that
the survivors of "the Melt" find themselves in at the beginning of
the story defines the tone and the atmosphere in many ways. While this is a
solidly high fantasy campaign, resources are scarce and players will have to
find their own ways to work around that. As players rise in level, many of
these survival elements will become trivial, and we will begin to focus more on
grand moments than on the details of surviving at the shadow of a melting
glacier.
While
it is impossible to predict every single sensitive or triggering issue that
might come up in a campaign of this length and magnitude, there are some
recurring themes that are inherent to the nature of the story: the Demon Plague
is a magical disease, and its expressions including various aspects of body horror.
While we can decide as a group how graphic and vivid we want these effects and
descriptions to be, they are an important part of the aesthetic of this
adventure as envisioned by the authors. In addition, we will have a discussion
during our first session on whether there are any subjects that we as a group
want to stay away from during the game, to ensure that everyone is comfortable
and able to participate fully in the game. This is, of course, not an
exhaustive list. If issues come up that we need to deal with out of character,
everyone should feel entitled and enpowered to ask for a break from the
gameplay at any moment, so that we can resolve any issues that come up out of
character. Please do not wait if something is causing you to feel unsafe or
uncomfortable. Any behaviour or language that prevents other players from
enjoying the game will not be tolerated.
