My name is Daniel and I'm a professional DM and very amateur voice actor that's looking to run a group of new OR experienced players through a more immersive, classic style game of dungeons and dragons than what's typically offered. I'm willing to help new players learn and experience the game, so long as you're eager and willing to ROLEPLAY and connect with the world! I pride myself on atmosphere and immersion and I like to create a world that offers the chance to tell amazing, heroic stories but one that also respects the players' intelligence, subverts expectations and creates real consequences for less than fortunate rolls and decisions. I'm a creative writing major, as well as a part time professional DM that's been running a paid game of RIME OF THE FROSTMAIDEN for over a year successfully now. As that game comes to a close, I've been greatly inspired to run a more CLASSIC style game of dungeons and dragons in which adventurers can explore and quest within the forgotten realms setting in an immersive and consequence-bearing world that respects your decisions and offers risks and rewards to boot. What I'm offering An environment that emphasizes roleplay Although I do love the adventure, the combat and the character building that naturally occurs in any D&D game, my heart is in the roleplay. If you're looking to create FUN, EXCITING and MATURE stories that neither hold your hand or retcon your silly decisions, I've got you. It's my ultimate goal to play the character that is the WORLD as realistically as I can, and provide my players with a sandbox full of ancient lore to uncover, interesting NPC's and FACTIONS to befriend or rival, and a mountain of loot beneath forgotten temples and lost dwarven strongholds. I take travel seriously, depending on the groups vote will opt in on a homebrew "grievous wounds" system that adds enhanced risk to everyday adventuring. Your character is a hero, but not a god. You'll do well to remember that in the frontier. A more mature tone First and foremost, the game should be FUN. Beyond that though, I truly believe in the capacity for dungeons and dragons to be a medium in which mature and discussion provoking stories can be told alongside friends with similar interests. There WILL be themes of violence, famine, intrigue and even drug use within the game. It is a whimsical fantasy world, but one a slew of very real problems for the citizens that live within it. Life is hard out in the frontier, and not everyone is born special. What would you solve, if the world was perfect, after all? NOTE that there WILL be extensive descriptions of violence, war and some light horror elements that paint the monsters, and villains you fight as REAL, tangible threats. There WILL be themes of corruption, drug use and war. There will NOT be any tolerance OR exploration of the themes of rape, sexual abuse and / or sexual proclivity. Consistency Regardless of whatever timeslot we settle on as a group, expect me to be on time, prepared and fully ready to put on a show every week. I use an extensive playlist of ambient and action tracks depending on the current situation and tone, via a music bot on discord. I use player handouts and I will always have a battle map prepared. No matter how off the rails you are, I have an extensive roll20 marketplace library and I pride myself on improvisational skills. The action will never stop moving, and that's a promise. The setting and what to expect This game will take place along the northern sword coast of the forgotten realms, or, the FRONTIER as it's commonly among its many hardy citizens. This is not a land of court nobles and chivalric knights, but a brutal one that will test the mettle of every man, woman or child who seeks to carve out a life of their own here. Speckled with the ruins of civilizations long past within it's sprawling forests and arid planes, the frontier calls to those who would see opportunity where others would see danger. Beware though, eager traveler as monsters claim these ancient lands as their own, and will fight to the bitter end to relinquish such titles. Join, and move up or down in major factions, or go it your own way. Decide what jobs you and your party take. NPC's are written as if they're characters themselves, and have unique agendas, ideals and traits that set them apart from other NPC'S. The game will feature an ongoing narrative that begins along the path to the frontier town of Phandalin as a group of caravan guards or passengers. As adventures in the frontier are want to do, plans quickly go awry. The game will provide an initial starting area full of intrigue, unique factions and dangerous enemies but will provide an opportunity early on to acquire horses and travel along the coast. I'll be combining my own worldbuilding skills as a dungeon master of 8+ years with the adventure / setting books of Phandelver, Dragon of Icespire Peak, Storm Kings Thunder and Out of the Abyss to feature a wide open and lived in world that can take you in any direction depending on what type of adventure you carve out for yourself in game. New player friendly If you're completely new to the game and are eager to roleplay and looking to learn, I can help with that. The first session will be a FREE session 0 in which the group comes together to make characters, ask questions about the setting and brainstorm to create the best cooperative story we can create. I'll take time throughout the week of the session 0 to answer any questions you have via discord and make sure that you're ready to go with a fully developed and functioning character sheet by level 1. I do not typically allow or encourage homebrew characters, as I believe the published materials give you the tools to create and play nearly any fantasy you can imagine. IF you have a solid idea that fits with the lore of the world and won't result in what I believe to be a broken character in game, I'll allow it so long as it's approved first. FUN first with a DM who cares about your character as much as you do If you've made it this far, I'd like to think you're partially interested. I take my games very seriously, but at the end of the day I do this to give players a fun and consistent time with a DM who truly wants to take their characters ideas and create memorable experiences with them. If anything I say or do, or anything another player says or does ever bothers you, feel completely free and secure to approach me privately so that we might find a solution. I pride myself on open communication and I love when indulging in my favorite hobby can bring fun excitement to a players life.
