[LFP] [D&D 5e] New DM looking for new players to learn together.

Let me start by being totally honest, here.  I haven't played a lot of D&D, yet.  I've been in three or so campaigns that featured any length to them at all.  I'm slated to join a campaign that is coming up in the next month or two, but I want to play some more in the meantime.  I've found that groups that already have a DM are hard to find and fill up fast.  Once in a group there's at LEAST a 50% chance that it will lose too many PC's to remain viable or the DM will have to bail out for whatever reason, and suddenly I'm back to zero play sessions a week. So I thought I would be the DM and make my own group.  I'm reasonably confident that I can run a game well enough that people who want to have fun can enjoy themselves.  My plan is to start with the Lost Mine of Phandelver, since I've played it and am familiar with it already.  From there, I'm hoping we can take our characters into a new packaged campaign, and go from there.  Who knows maybe this will become a regular group for the next year or longer!  I'm thinking that players who are new(ish) would be a good fit, since we will all need a bit of patience from time to time.  That said, I wouldn't pass over people, just because they're not new.  This is a 21 and older group, just so we know we're all adults and can act out our characters as such.  That said, even though it seems to be a pretty routine procedure, I'll go ahead and say that any romantic 'liasons' will be fade to black/left up to your imagination.  I'd recommend that you not apply if you're an experienced, optimizer, rules-lawyer, type who enjoys challenging the DM and thinking way outside the box.  Nothing wrong with that playstyle at all, it's just I'm sure I'll be challenged already, and won't be able to keep up if you go way outside the box.  Otherwise, if you think you might be interested in a packaged campaign experience where we all work together to have some fun, you can apply by responding to the following, preferably by messaging me directly. 1. The timeslot will be at 7pm CST on Thursdays.  Can you commit to that time slot outside of unforeseen emergencies?  (This is the number one reason I see groups fail is people trying to make a bad-fit time slot happen.  Be realistic is all I'm saying.) 2.  How much 5e have you played and how would you describe your level of knowledge of the game? 3. What would you consider the most optimal balance between roleplaying and combat? 4. What do you think makes a person a good (or at least decent) DM? 5. What do you think makes a person a good PC? 6. What kind of character do you think you might want to play? 7.* Are you willing to chip in on Roll20 supplies?  My books are all paper copies, so it would cost quite a bit for my to buy everything we might need myself.  But if everyone buys just one thing, we can not only get everything we need; our members might be a little more 'committed' to the group. Thanks for reading, and I hope this is the kind of group that fits your need.  I'll leave this open a week, until Oct. 9, and respond to everyone one way or another. --David
3. I don't believe these things are opposites or mutually exclusive.  You can roleplay a combat encounter as much as you can roleplay a social encounter.
Group is full at this time. Thanks to all who were interested.
