Can't get Bar 1 Value/Max to auto populate on new tokens

I believe I have the default settings where BAR 1 VALUE and BAR 1 MAX are both set to hp_max (which is what I want it to be).  But I can't get new tokens to automatically populate, those bars are all blank. I created a Guard token from the 5e SRD Compendium. When I drag it onto the map both his bars are empty. How to get those values to auto-populate while using the D&D 5e by Roll20 character sheet? Each token would need its own hp pool so I don't what the token's hp linked to the character's hp.  Thanks!

Hi thirstyBard! Did you Apply Default Settings in-game?  You shouldn't have to for new tokens, but you never know. Also, do you already have a guard character in your game? If so, any compendium drag will only drag in an instance of the saved default token for the already existing character. Try dragging in something you know does not exist in your game, even in the archive folder.

The SRD "token" that is created isn't a proper token. It is a placeholder image. What you want will not work with SRD compendium entries, it only works with purchased compendium resources.  You can think of it this way:  You drag a compendium entry from the compendium onto your map.  Roll20 creates the entry in the Journal tab. At this point there is no token, so no token stats get set.  Next, Roll20 creates a "token" on the board. Since there is no token it drops the "white field with blue man" placeholder image.  The solution to this is to create a token, set it up (link it to the journal character, set up the bars etc), and then set it as default token in the journal.
I'd like to avoid setting up every token individually and would rather it default to the default. I thought that was the point of default settings.

Unfortunately, this is how the SRD (the free option) is set up. The paid options work as you expect them to. You could make a suggestion in the suggestion forum to change the SRD setup.

If you managed to pick up the Lost Mine of Phandelver when it was being given away as a promo, you can see this in action. If you created a game with it, those monsters are now in your Compendium. Bugbear, commoner and Giant Spider are examples of ones that would come in with token art and bars set.
