Starting from the bottom

What's popping everybody? The name's Cal. I'm looking to form a small group - not for a single game, mind you - of brave individuals who are willing to stumble through the world of tabletop RPGs with me. I'm talking mainly DnD 5E(which I have a little experience playing) and Pathfinder(which I'm currently dabbling into), so I'd recommend you skip this if you're not interested in those. For this purpose I require fellow aspiring players and GMs (though I don't mind if you're already game savvy and if you are, please be patient! I just think it'd be more of a bonding experience if each of us could take turns holding the idiot ball) who are interested in the hobby but find pre-existing games and large dispersive servers to be intimidating, preferring to start small. The ideal outcome of this is we all become friends as we share our passion for tabletop and learn how to play these games together - using pre-written adventures, homebrew, you name it! I would like to start out as a player myself, but who knows? I might up end GMing, even! (psst! and even if we don't have a GM we can always  look for one  together) Here are the general requirements: Number of participants: I personally believe that the 4-7 people range is best, but I'm willing to stretch it up to, say, ten. Knowledge of the English language: this is essential as it is needed to communicate, either through text, audio or even video if we feel comfortable with it (though I should preface, I at least have no decent webcam option at the moment) Age: foreseeing how it could get uncomfortable to discuss and/or play out certain situations with minors involved, 18+ are preferred. For reference, I am in the 20-25 age range, but all adults are welcome. Behavior: this is possibly the most critical point. People aren't always going to get along and there may be disagreements, but this is no one's fault as long as all parties are mindful of each other and keep it civil. I am looking for chill, nice people. Your objective here is to cooperate with others, so if you believe you have the right mindset for that then hop on in. Keep in mind that since most of the applicants will probably be on the inexperienced side, there's a chance it will get frustrating at times; it's okay, it's just games at the end of the day. For this reason I also suggest that you don't take things too seriously. Patience: yes I know, the behavior section is right above, I just felt like this needed reiterating. Time zone/s: trickiest subject right here - as of now I live in GMT+1 and I'm busy during most of my day, so I'm usually available to game at night from 9pm onwards (the date is a placeholder, but Tuesday actually fits with my schedule) though I can definitely make room for sessions on the weekends at most times, as long as I know in advance. As for the lenght of these eventual sessions, I don't...know. I'll go out on a limb and say about 2 hours. See if that fits your bill. I apologize since this might have ended up sounding a lot more formal and serious than I intended, I want to assure you that's not my goal! I'm trying to establish a "group of friends recently discovered a common interest in tabletop gaming and want to get started" or "meet-and-greet at the DnD night organized by the local game store" kind of vibe, it's just that English isn't my first language, so pretty much anything I write reads like an essay sometimes. For applications, I suppose you could write a little about yourself and how much experience you have with the aforementioned games, whatever you're comfortable with! If you've been accepted I will send you an invite to the Discord server I set up just for the occasion, where we can chat to our hearts' content! Here's hoping enough of you are interested in this idea. Have a nice day! Cal
I would be quite interested in getting to be part of a starting group. I have played tabletop RPG's for over a decade now, but sadly got left behind around time 4e and first versions of Pathfinder came out, so I would love to try 5e. I would consider myself patient (doubly so since I know I will make lot of mistakes with the rules as well), and would love to finally be part of some of the pre-made adventures since they sound quite fun. My timezone is GMT +3, so I am not too far from yours in that regard, and am currently on my third decade of life.
responding out of curiosity more than interest, saw the title of the post, and wanted to read it. this kind of thing isn't for me, as I've been playing for years now, but i understand not wanting to jump into a hobby full of veterans when you are still learning, that makes sense. and i think its definitely possible to get a full group of new players on roll20 through these forums. However, you are probably going to need to dungeon master yourself if everyone else in the group is also new. just a word of advice, i suppose. and honestly for what you are trying to do, getting a good solid group, you should be ready to swap, replace, and kick a lot of people out of the group before you finally find the right mix of people. my current group of 5 is almost entirely from people i have met on here, and they are great. but that took around a year of cycling in over a dozen-ish new (bad) players and having to kick them. start with modules, dont be like me, working on a homebrew thing and weaving character backstories into the game, and then the player quits 3 sessions in.
Hi, my name is Alex and  I am quite interested in joining but don't have much experience in playing. Most of my knowledge comes from watching DnD groups and reading through the books. Patience should not be a problem for I will  probably   be among those make the most mistakes. I'm 27 by now, live in GMT+1 and am rather flexible with either evening or weekends. I would love the experience playing DnD/Pathfinder with a group were I'm not the only one getting confused.
Hey, I'm Daniel, 25, GMT+1 and I also find this intriguing. I do have TTRPG DM experience in real life, but only played as a player once in my life in a horror scifi one shot of another system that my GF hosted. I DMd a few real-life 5e games in the past but the groups always disbanded rather quickly, because life got in the way. I also host a regular open old-school D&D event in the city where I live atm but that's very different from 5e. "find pre-existing games and large dispersive servers to be intimidating, preferring to start small" really resonates with me. I find it hard to get into stuff online although I'm quite outgoing in real-life. I would really appreciate a chill group of people to further explore the online part of the hobby. I could also help with my DM knowledge, although It's been a while since I played 5e. I do own all the core rules and a lot of other stuff though :) In general I'm really easy going and having fun together is more important than any rule! Greetings, Daniel
Hey everyone!  It looks like our group is forming, but there's still room for a few more people if you'd like to join!  Have a nice day!  Cal
Hey (possibly new) friends! My name's Joe and I just hit 32 (insert granddad jokes here). I live in GMT+1 as well, would prefer games to not go past midnight at least, as I usually get up early. Tuesday is by far the best day for me ;) I just recently started playing DnD5e with no prior experience in TTRPG's, and absolutely feel the same way, it's very intimidating to look for a game when you can already see ~35 applications for them. I've actually found a nice West Marches style group I play with, but would very much enjoy playing with a consistent group of players/character, to get deeper into the characters as opposed to spending the first half of every session meeting new characters to work out a dynamic with. I would describe myself as very relaxed and patient, as long as people are respectful towards each other. In the end we're all just looking to have fun, so that's the most important part for me.
Hey Cal. My name is Ellis. I believe I have the perfect game for you and you are perfect for our game. I will try to be brief. BUT our group has very specific community standards. See, this game is played as a zoom event on the app The Phoenix. We are a sober community. The only requirement for membership is 48 hrs of sobriety or to be in recovery or supporting someone in recovery. That being said we don’t verify we use ther honor system. Our game just started this past Sunday. Brand new campaign with all first time players. The DM is super nice and SUPER patient. We meet every two weeks EST 10:30am to 12:30 pm. The only issue I foresee is you only communicating by typing. The Phoenix is a safe place as we do not tolllerate any hateful behavior or language towards others. Zero tolerance. You can text me at 4047884402. I get tired of typing here. Hope to hear from you.
