Non grid based "Snap Points"

I've been a user of roll20 for a while but have never stretched it beyond D&d for the most part. Recently I have begun trying to make a game where a grid wouldn't work  for me however I'd prefer players to not have to roughly place the tokens over the spaces on the board. This is why I believe a system where the Gm can designate specific token snap points on the board independent of a grid would be a good addition.
