D&D 3.5 BASIC - For newbies

Currently a full group! But feel free to post interest and stick around to fill in if people drop out. I tried posting an interest check about this before, but this time I will try doing this right from the beginning. We will be playing the adventure from the D&D Basic box, 2004 version and the focus of the game will be to teach the game to new players and give them a chance to try D&D 3.5 with the simplified "Basic" rules, to ease new players into the game without having to spend alot of time reading through rules. Newbies will have first dibs when it comes to playing, other players may join if we need them to get a full group. Players can either choose to use a pregenerated character from the box or crete a character together with the group in the first session of play. New players should not worry about the rules as these will be explained as we play. When you post interest, please include times you will be able to play with a GMT timezone reference. For example, I will mostly be available Wednesdays and Fridays 18-24:00 (6-12pm) GMT+2 If you dont know your timezone in GMT (wich is the same as UTC), you can find your timezone here: http://www.epochconverter.com/epoch/timezones.php
I would be interested in this. I can play at those times, fri-sun and probably wednesdays as well in a couple of weeks. I myself is GMT +1.
Ok, so we got one? Have you played D&D before?
I played D&D when I was younger, roughly 5-8 years ago so we basicly had fun with it and winged most of the parts. Other than that I've just started to play some with the PEG.
Hey Tengu, im interrested in your offer, like i said, ive never played dnd before. atm i have time mo,we,fr-su 19:00 - 02:00 (7pm-2am) GMT +2
i could fill a slot, havent played D&D since high school and want to get back into it, open pretty much every day and im GMT -5
I would like to play, very much so. I have very little experience with DnD, more experience with GURPS and a good deal of experience with homebrew systems. Also, I am not a native speaker. I don't think that could be anything more than a minor problem, as I speak good English. Just wanna have everything on the table. 6-12 pm gmt+2 is good most of the time for me, probably later is better
Hey dude. Im a complete noob apart from one encounter and watching other people play. I have a basic understanding of the game and i'm really trying to get into it, any rule set. Im 21 and from the UK. Would love to join. Have quite a bit of free time and can stay up late hours if the group is US based.
I am interested in this. i would prefer to create my own character if possible. i am pretty much free any day from 1200 to 2400 hours (GMT -8:00). so if the group comes to some decision on time i will try to work within that.
i would like to play. i never played dnd before but seen some people play it and it seems fun. im free on Saturdays for 9am-4pm est.pm me if i can play.
I wouldn't mind learning. I know the basics of Pathfinder, and I'm under the impression that 3.5 isn't very different, so it couldn't hurt to know how to play that as well. I might need some help here and there, but I'm not a complete beginner. I'm mostly available Thursdays - Sundays 3pm to 12am EST.
Hey! I would love to play in this adventure of newbly goodness! I have played the classic DnD a few times before years ago, and am just itching to get back into it! Hopefully you still have room in the party :) as it seems to be filling up quickly. I live in EST and am available most evenings during the week and sundays as well. I would be hoping to roll a brand new character and willing to fill any "role" which may be missing. (Oh and I love RP in general when it comes to dialogue and getting into character) Edit just noticed EST is GMT-5:00. 6-12 pm is perfect
Great turnout! Better than I expected actually. For those who want to create their own characters from scratch, we will use the first game session to roll up characters poke them into colorful adventurers, ready to explore the neverending world of fantasy. As we are using the 2004 BASIC rules for character generation (the rules found in the basic box, no, you wont need a copy of these rules), the choices for character is more limited than in the core rules. The available races for your characters will be: Dwarf: Short, sturdy humanoids. Strong but due to their gruff nature they tend to make poor diplomats, the men pride themselves with thick beards. Elf: Graceful elves who live a long time, natural marksmen, but tend to be fragile due to their frail build Halfling: Short humanoids that when grown up look alot like human children, naturally agile, sneaky... but tend to be weak. Human: A normal human, just like you guys. The classes available will be: Cleric: A priest serving a god of his/her choice, he gains divine magic granted by his god. Can use magic to heal. Fighter: A brave warrior who is trained in combat with both melee and ranged weapons. Rogue: A cunning thief and trickster. Is able to find, disable traps and pick locks. Sorcerer: A mage with an intuative talent for magic. Wizard: A mage who studied for many years to learn how to cast spells from books. You can start thinking about what kind of character you would like to play and then we will make your characters together in the first session.
Okay, so I want to make my own but I am calling the elf rogue!
Do we have an idea of when the first session will be?
I dont think so and looking over the posts we have people from a bunch of timezones, but we were given wednesdays and fridays. However this wednesday is kinda short notice for me so I would prefer friday if we are to play this week.
Is it okay if I miss the start of the session, but chime in in the middle? (the generation session)
The first session will be next week as I am being sent away with the army tomorrow for a few days. I would like to know how many of you are able to play Wednesday between 18-24 GMT+2 (please specify the hours you are able to play)? And how many of you would be able to play Friday between 18-24 GMT+2 (please specify the hours you are able to play)? Im thinking of running 1-2 hour sessions. I will not require you to stay the entire session when we make the characters. Also, how many of you have and use mic's?
I can play w/e as im on study leave atm. So i'll work around when you're able to play. I use TS/skype on daily basis.
I can't play next week on wednesday as its the birthday of a dear friend of mine. The friday works perfectly for me. I have mic with skype and all other chatprograms.
6-12pm is fine with me both wednesday and friday have a mic, but I guess I won't use it after 10-11pm since my rommates will go to sleep. so 6-10 pm preferrably
im fine with we, and the time 2 a dwarf, but we need a defender right? so i wanna play a defenderclass if possible. and i have a mic and the programms
I'm pretty new to 3.5 and looking to join. I played DnD around 10 years ago for a lil bit but haven't since then and forgot most of the stuff. I'd love to join and can be available any time after around noon Pst.
Daniel; This is a roleplaying game, not a MMORPG. There are no "strikers", "defenders" and "buffers", there are only characters. Im fine with trying to run a game with just a band of thieves or wizards... it may be extremely difficult, but it can be good roleplaying. Like, maybe they are a traveling group of tombraiders (thieves) or a bunch of apprentices sent by their master to fetch items needed for a special spell, and if they succeed, the master has promised them that they shall be trusted with more advanced magic (wizards). However, it will most likely be easier to overcome all obstacles if all areas of expertise are covered. Matt: We more or less have a full group I hope, but if you want you can stick around as there are often people who drop out.
Both times are fine with me as well though I would prefer it a little later on in that time scale as I am one of the GMT-5:00 people. Next week would be great, and some of those tilted group ideas sound hilariously fun Tengu! I think i'll be playing as a halfling or a dwarf but who knows :). And I do have a microphone with skype, mumble, and ventrillo.
Yeah I can fill in if somebody doesn't show or drops out. Just let me know.
Wedge: Thank you, but that were just examples of normally bad group strategy, but good roleplaying. What tells roleplaying games apart from strategy games and computor games is that people can and should play a character they want (within the restrictions of the rules and settings), not what the group needs. Like, the point is for people to become a person the player always wanted to be or just wants to try to be :) The only way to really "win" is to have fun... :) It is more likely we will play around 18-22 GMT+2 as it seems we have some people in europe here (including myself). That would be around noon-ish to about 15:00-ish for you right? Matt: Will do.
That works for me. Ya I believe its a seven hour difference so it may be like 11 am if we start early, and I'm still game of course. Did we decide on Wednesday or Friday yet? I'm getting excited, time to start character concepts :)
No, there are still people who havent answeared if they can play yet, but I am thinking Friday next week, 20-21 (maybe 22 if needed) GMT+2. But yeah, start thinking of what kind of adventurer you would want to be so you have a basic idea when we start rolling him up and if you guys have any ideas, questions or anything, please just ask, I will try to answear as quickly as I can (I will however be sent away with the army today, so I will have limited access to the internet for the rest of the week). Also, feel free to discuss your ideas in the thread.
Friday next week works fantastic for me, that night would be dedicated to make our characters, correct?
Maybe wednesday not friday? That still a week from now?
I cant play that wednesday.
Yes, we will focus on making our characters and grouping them together, maybe even coming up with a supercool adventuring company name... all the cool kids are doing it. I think I will also have time for explaining the basics as wel :)
Hi, there I'd also like to join. Since i am in the same timezone as Tengu and Thomas as it seems it would be perfect. Im also a newby besides playing D&D like 10 Years ago. I've got time on Wednesday and/or Friday evening. Throw me an email or reply here and i get back to you asap.
Hello Seven, We are a full group right now, but stick around and there might be an opening as there are often people who drop out.
Alright. Will do!
That friday time sounds perfect tengu. So what is our roster looking like in regards to how many players we have? And for those players : What type of character are you going to be playing? I'm still tinkering around with a few ideas. I suppose i'm mostly interested in what alignments you guys are thinking of choosing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bij_kZzlbkk to anyone who's interested I found this video useful when drawing insight into character creation.
Hey Tengu is there a waitlist or somekind for other people interested in case somebody does not show up or drops out? I would love to get some 3.5 experience before my own group forms in a few weeks. Thanks!
Wedge: the basic-rules differ alittle from the standard rules so I think they are best explained to the group when we are making the characters. I have posted the available classes and races here in the thread already. However, the basic rules dont allow evil characters, so the group does not need to be concerned much with alignment. Allagash: the waiting list Will be open until we start play. So feel free to stick around.
So can you make an event for this so I get the time and stuff?
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html I do not know how to make events. But are you all ready for this friday 20:00 GMT +2? If you have a hard time figuring out when it is in your timezone, you can use this: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html
