Arcane Archer called shots?

Hello there, when paying a arcane archer, do you have to declare that its a arcane shot before you make your attack roll? or are you able to declare its a arcane shots after you know it hits or not?  Example, my character fires a arrow, and it hits. I then make it a bursting arrow./ i plan on making this shot a bursting arrow, attack roll is made and it misses, i do not make it a bursting arrow at that point.

I think this is a game system question. The Roll20 forums are only for roll20-related questions (which includes character sheet issues) and not game system questions, which is sensible considering there are literally hundreds of game systems played on roll20. I think you'll need to find an online forum or discord for whichever system includes the arcane archer. Since it's like to be some variant of D&D, that should be pretty easy.
Assuming this is for D&D 5E, according to Xanathar's guide to Everything : "Once per turn when you fire an arrow from a shortbow or longbow as part of the Attack action, you can apply one of your Arcane Shot options to that arrow. You decide to use the option when the arrow hits , unless the option doesn’t involve an attack roll." I know you mean well, Rick, but you should not answer questions like this on the roll20 forums - simply direct people to somehwere they canc get the answer. If players of all the games played here see they can gain system answers and start using the forums in this way, they'll be flooded and the real purpose the site won't be possible. That's not my opinion, that's the official view btw.
Understood. I hadn't considered the ramifications. Mea culpa :) GiGs said: I know you mean well, Rick, but you should not answer questions like this on the roll20 forums - simply direct people to somehwere they canc get the answer.
