
Very occasionally I create an animated token for one of my Players. Each time I have to relearn steps becuase I do this so infreqently I forget. Documenting my method here so I can find it again. Also because it might benefit someone else and there are big brains out there that might point out easier paths or a reduction in steps to create an animated token (with a border!). 1,
find or create a GIF (convert a snip of a video into a GIF) 2,
online GIF editor: trim the frames or extend to suit duration and file size 3,
o nline GIF
editor: crop
to circle, save to computer 4, Excel:
Insert tab, Illustrations, Shapes, Oval. Lock Aspect Ratio! adjust circle size,
line width and colour (high
contrast is good). copy circle to clipboard 5, GIMP: Edit paste
circle. do this without a file open and it will create a workspace with a
transparent background with just the circle from excel 6, GIMP: File - Open as
Layers... add animated GIF to GIMP project. Gif will be bigger than the circle
or smaller than the circle. 7, Excel: back to the
circle. make sure to Lock Aspect Ratio and adjust circle size in excel. copy
circle to clipboard 8, GIMP: redo steps 5,
6 & 7 till the GIF fills inside of Circle (just close the previous images
"discard changes") 9, GIMP: Export As gif
(expand "select file type" in export popup) 10, Online GIF editor:
edit GIF and remove first frame (the blank circle), download
11, drag and drop to
Roll20 and assign to character.
