Many times Burned Player (Star Wars)

So I mostly want to play a Star Wars game, pretty much any system but FFG I can struggle through (i have problems with most of them but haven't read the 5e one). I desperately want to play a Jedi, something I've tried and lost many times after a few sessions. I grew up with a group that got bored of games quickly and often only got two or three sessions in. Then I got a couple with one gm who he and I began to butt heads and that ended. Another my best friend run he died before completing. I can probably dig up others but frankly the bottom line is. I want to play star wars, and as a Jedi/Force user in general. I haven't had much look looking for games so I thought id shoot an idea into the forums and see what happened. However, the real problem isn't that Star Wars games aren't available. Its that Star Wars has become a very broad concept, one filled with a variet y of viewpoints, I have no desire to attack or butt heads with anyone. If someone feels force users should be equal to non force users or such I don't really want to argue with them that it seems strange to me.  We're all here to have fun, and I want people to.  So. Im free on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from  9:30 Central time to the early morning. I can potentially try and free myself sooner for games but its largely to do with my job only ending at 8:30 and leaving room for me to accomplish things I need to do irl before game time. I designed a small questionnaire just to give a random idea of how i feel about things that if someone wanted they could respond to and help get them a general idea of how people are feeling. After all... sometimes its gonna be a real problem to get someone who prefers very powerful Jedi in with one of those types that hates all superhumans. When Darth Vader says "The ability to destroy a planet pales in comparison to the power of the force " what does that mean to you? -To me, Vader is implying either that Force Users can destroy planets, or that they're more esoterically powerful such as through illusions, foresight, healing, controlling the dead etc., my preference is both. Frankly they have little reason to destroy planets rather than the inability to do so. By some internal views Id not be surprised if Vader and Sidious could destroy planets, the value of the Death Stars is to be able to destroy planets where they aren't, and continue to allow Sidious to be nothing but "The Emperor" who doesn't have to broadcast how powerful he is. Are ships more powerful  than people? -To me systems like FFG where Vehicle scale weapons rip apart lower people, while realistic, isn't great for the logic of Star Wars. If Darth Vader or Luke could just be killed with a big gun its a bit of a downgrade of its Science Fantasy nature. That being said, if a group of normal people are fighting a Starfighter, they're probably in for a bad time. While i know there is a head scratching confusion to balance the ide that you can't just kill someone with bombardment from a big space ship... if you could how has that not been the solution to these people already? Would you say they're are people who are exceptions to whatever rules are the norm if a setting? -Definitely. I don't find it to hard to believe that people are far weaker than the heights demonstrated by high powered characters, I would just like to finally be one of those high powered characters after years of being promised a destination and the journey ending at the first bus stop. Should aliens just be odd looking humans or have their own abilities purely from their race? -I genuinely prefer Aliens having special abilities/defects that separate them from humans even something minor like Kel Dor not being able to handle normal atmospheres but being fine in ones that would kill humans. In general, i think abilities can be more impressive but still there's always a give and a take if the races are supposed to be relatively balanced Is the Dark Side evil? Would you rather say that Sidious' treachery made all of the main dark siders we see evil because he and the sith he represented were? -I did kind of front load this question. I prefer things I've always had explained to me from Legends side of things where the Dark Side isn't inherently evil but its very easy to use the powers it gives for evil, or to give into the easy and thuggish path of life. I think the Light and Dark being inherently Good and Evil is a simplification, not a bad one and one i can work with if its the approach a GM takes but some of its more literal applications do bother me, like in some systems you can become "Dark" just because you shot lightning out of your fingers. Is Sidious a genius? Why? -Sidious is a genius, masterminding a war with two expendable armies to leave him able to rule a galaxy with the least amount of loss of his subjects possible, to say nothing of everything else. I've personally made his plan against the Jedi a bit more complex before, but it is still functional based on the idea that the Jedi's greatest weakness is their Kindness, and that blatantly they did trust those around them. Even the most evil of all things. Politicians. The force is the single most important thing in Star wars along with Cultures and their interactions or lack of interaction with it to me. What about you? -To more expand on this point I always thought that maybe cultures and beliefs affect the force. I find the idea that Mandalorians are what make Beskar Steel so amazing would be a great idea, especially if it then made the material fail in the hands of the unworthy etc. Can you accept that Lightsabers are the most potent weapon and that some materials will be super powered compared to others -Lightsabers should be really fantastic weapons, It really bothers me how in some video games we get some random storm trooper getting hit six times to fall down and die. Some big gnarly creature? Okay I'm a little more okay with that but "Lightsaber Resistant " is sometimes seeming to be a meme with how often random things in the galaxy seem to resist them. Most dangerous predators don't need to resist lightsabers, they need to be terrifying to normal people, maybe have some powers themselves. That said I will not boohoo when a lightsaber doesn't auto kill everything it hits, that's not exactly fun either, especially not on the receiving end for party members. I have always enjoyed things like Beskar, and some applications of the ideas of Cortosis like in the Kotor games, they're just good materials and ideas things that let you create a more interesting culture/capable group with that as their basis. There is far more to Mandalorians than Beskar Steel, but it certainly is nice for them to have something Material to help give them an edge on top of their skills.
I like the idea of the questionnaire, though I suspect my answers would differ from your a lot. I run a non-D&D game Saturday evenings. The current one is near to wrap up, and Star Wars is front-runner, using either a homebrew hack I've used in the past, or the old West End Games d6 version. I suspect we'd approach the material differently, but DM me if you want and I'll at least give you a chance to look over what I come up with when the time comes.
"The ability to destroy a planet pales in comparison to the power of the force" When I first heard that line, I did assume that meant that The Force can destroy planets as well. And to an extent, I believe that. What I don't believe is that even Vader or Sidious could control The Force to do that for them. Instead, what Sidious (and by extension, what he taught Vader) is that The Force can do even more than destroy. It can create, restore, and most importantly, control. Are ships more powerful than people? Short answer is yes. And I understand where your frustration lies in this regard. Because you're not playing a regular people. In Star Wars Saga Edition, they break this concept into 2 parts: Heroic and Nonheroic characters. Nonheroic characters are the squishy rank and file that would get shredded by vehicle weapons. Heroic characters, meanwhile, can actually survive this with clever ingenuity, impossible strengths, or some other narrative trick that makes their story fantastical to the lucky that can tell it later. Would you say there are people who are exceptions to whatever rules are the norm of a setting? I believe that was already answered in the previous question by accident lol. Should aliens just be odd looking humans or have their own abilities purely from their race? More is more and I believe your background should provide some benefit, be it your species or your upbringing or what have you. Penalties are where I draw the line, because actively punishing you in some way for what you play kind of restricts things if you want to play something that isn't optimal. Ability Score penalties tend to be my biggest hangup with older games that use a d20 system. Is the Dark Side evil? Would you rather say that Sideious' treachery made all of the main dark siders we see evil because he and the sith he represented were? I will be perfectly honest, I don't know enough lore to say canonically. That being said, I like the idea of Light and Dark being White and Black in literal senses. Light, or White, being the side that's the absence of "color" (ie emotions, attachment), and Dark (Black) being the flood of all colors (emotions like passion and rage). When all of those emotions effectively blind you and overtake you. Mechanically, I have never cared because there are some force powers I would genuinely say are inherently evil and they are not even Dark Side powers. For example, anything Mind Trick related is just sus all around. Is Sidious a genius? Why? It's hard to say. He might be a genius, but he's also managed to surround himself with the highly gullible, yet powerful allies. But again, I don't know all the lore. So maybe there is more details about his schemes that make him out to be more of a genius than I realize. The force is the single most important thing in Star wars along with Cultures and their interactions or lack of interaction with it to me. What about you? I don't even think it has to be as grand as cultures and beliefs affecting The Force. I think the individual can drastically alter how The Force works based on themselves. Belief is a factor, but I also think that creative application is important as well. This is especially true for a tabletop game where players aren't as limited in their choices as, say, a video game or something. Can you accept that lightsabers are the most potent weapon and that some materials will be super powered compared to others? I will accept that they are incredibly potent weapons. As in, you can start cutting ship hulls open with them kind of weapons. However, I like to reserve the right to say that they are not the absolute most potent weapons just so that I can have an ace up my sleeve if I need something to put the fear of the maker into an overly cocky player or 2. Side note, I don't quite have anything ready off hand to run. I'll need some time and ideas to work on.
