[LFG] Newcomer to DND looking for a classic game to learn how to play

I'm completely new to anything DND play, looking for a way to ease into it with a fun, engaging and hopefully largely character customizable game. Looking for free games, not really sure what else to specify. I'm open to any and all advice on how to start. Availability is fluctuating but typically 7pm - 2am most days.
