Last call: Rogue Trader - Tuesdays 7pm EST (UST -5:00)

Confirmed right now are: Robert - Rogue Trader Poison - Kroot Mercenary (pending group backgrounds) or Arch Militant Rolando - Void Master Mike - Explorator Devon - Navigator DrPersons - Seneschal Daniel - GM
Additional players are welcome to fill roles of the Astropath, additional Void Masters (different disciplines), or one more Explorator.
For character generation, players should use the following array: 19 18 15 14 11 10 7 6 3. Use each score once, until you have a score for each characteristic.
Are the numbers for the intro game characters or for the main game?
Please forgive my stupidity but what are those numbers for? Stats? no rolling them up?
Those are for your stats, arrange to taste, by the look of it. I put the Arch Militant together, looks pretty fun. I'm gonna build the Kroot, too, and then go with whatever the group/GM decides. The AM looks funny to RP, for sure.
Ah thank you.
Finished rebuilding my Rogue trader. Going to be starting with a fellowship of 50 and a + 10 to command due to a skill duplication from the origin path. be nice to have a few militants, Kroot might be interesting as well.
Im definitely going seneschal
Gonna be done building my Navigator soon.
should we roll health and fate points on our own or wait?
I've held off so far, myself...I havent rolled my corruption or insanity points either, which I have a higher than 0 number of =)
:D it seems were in the same boat then.
I feel like I ought to tote around a huge gun, like a multi melta
I can be explorator?
I won't have my mic the first session, as I'll be out of town in a hotel room. Other than that, I'll be good to go.
As we have a (more than) full party, I'm getting things started. Origin Path: I've attached what info has been provided so far. Take a look at the options from the Into the Storm book. I may know where you can find a copy if you're failing your acquisition tests to procure your own. Mike, you didn't end up with Explorator as a legal choice with your original path (though I know it was just a rough idea). DrPersons (Seneschal), Devon (Navigator), and Shanix (Explorator) need to create a path. Character Creation Rules: The array (19 18 15 etc) from earlier does work as Poison suggested. For Wounds/Fate Points, everyone can either automatically take a roll of lucky number 7 (converted to D5 for wounds) on both, or test the whims of fate next Tuesday. Character Sheet: I recommend using this character creation tool --> <a href="http://darkreign40k.com/drjoomla/index.php/component/docman/doc_download/329-40k-rpg-character-sheet" rel="nofollow">http://darkreign40k.com/drjoomla/index.php/component/docman/doc_download/329-40k-rpg-character-sheet</a> You must enable macros and have excel for it to work. I would like a tentative character sheet from everyone this week. You're all free to tweak it after next Tuesday's intro session, so don't stress too much. Remember that every starting character gets a free Acquisition. A vehicle from Into the Storm may be taken (note: vehicles always take a -10 penalty to acquire). That still means you could take a Common Rhino, Good Aquila Lander, Best Sentinel, etc. Character Background: I've attached a background I created earlier, when I thought I'd have a PC. In addition to the fluff, it ends with a section where you can suggest House Rules for your character. Penalties will be accepted without question, and trade-offs are allowed at GM discretion (Custom Traits file contains an example). After our Tuesday session, I'd like a Background from everyone. They'll make sure your character isn't overshadowed by letting me add tie-ins to your background every once in a while, and will let me design parts of the overall campaign around themes you're actually interested in. Contact me if you'd like suggestions/help.
should we post up out character sheets when we are done?
just emailed my character in
I've already got it (mostly) created. Want me to upload a copy?
Upload, or email me directly (email provided above).
Sent.
UPDATE: For the origin path, feel free to have MOTIVATION be a free choice, regardless of the other sections. This should resolve the few errors and allow you to create the characters you want.
Do you want me to wait until tuesday to roll for my navigator mutations?
I'm not familiar with those rules at the moment. Feel fee to roll it on your own if you'd like (honor system). Let me know if you turn into a demon or explode or something.
It's just odd quirks that come from the Navigator gene and his lineage. Nothing as hilarious and exploding, unfortunately.
The navigator has his own mutation chart and never uses the corruption based one.
the chart is on pg 182. also make sure you have a copy of the living errata from the Rogue trader web page.
I'm having a hard time with the single acquisition. How do I determine if it has a total of +0 to acquire?
you take the modifier for the rarity, and or subtract the quantity modifier, then add the modifier for quality
if it is greater than or equal to 0 you get the item. it's in the acquisition rules in the core book. pg 272
Ah, thanks!
Do we need two Explorators? I could roll up an Arch-Militant instead
Do we need two Explorators? I could roll up an Arch-Militant instead Well, the Adeptus Mechanicus could've deemed this expedition of greater importance, and sent more than one Explorator to verify stuff they find.
Their are likely a number of lesser tech-adepts aboard the ship, two Explorators just means two are of 'senior officer' quality. Given the multiple trades, lores, and implant paths available to an Explorator, I imagine two of them could play differently as well, and have varying backgrounds and goals to differentiate from each other. Still, the two of you are welcome to discuss your interpretation of the role so that you can determine if you'll be stepping on each others' toes. You're obviously welcome to switch careers though.
Looking over both classes I'm fairly set on Explorator. Just too cool of a class to pass up. Here is the description for my character that I'm entering in the character builder for submission. Keep in mind I'm new to the 40k world! Hedmric was forged upon Mars and since his early years has been in search of ancient and Holy Archeotech. His Quest of Knowledge and desire to archive such technology has led him to the life of an Explorator. His skill with an axe is nearly unmatched amongst Explorator; a goal of his being to earn the fabled Omnissian Axe. His calm and measured intellect is capable of communication and repair of the Adeptus Mechanicus advanced technology, but his true ability is experienced when reverse engineering fabled and Holy Archeotechnology.
(I'm Arch Militant, not that I think I should be the only one, just mentioning for the sake of "slot filling" =) )
Explorators: Every faction in the Imperium has a strict hierarchy, rituals, and history, and the Adeptus Mechanicus is no exception. Begin your Quest for Knowledge here (<a href="http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Adeptus_Mechanicus" rel="nofollow">http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Adeptus_Mechanicus</a>). Mike could, for instance, be a lowly Rune Priest with a penchant for reverse-engineering. Alternatively, he could be a Magos Explorator seeking out lost STCs for recovery. Shanix may opt for a completely different mechanicus agent, a Magos Biologis, who considers the capture and study of xenos imperative to the survival of mankind, or something different altogether.
Also, I pretty much finished my character last night, but I'll do the background fully tonight and stuff and send it by mail
Email sent.
Shanix may opt for a completely different mechanicus agent, a Magos Biologis, who considers the capture and study of xenos imperative to the survival of mankind, or something different altogether. Actually, I'll be willing to be a Magos Biologis to make it possible for Mike to be one as well.
There are tons of options, Biologis just being one example. Don't feel pressured into playing something you won't enjoy. Contact me if you have an idea like "I want to be a mechanic or armorer or chemical engineer but don't know what it'd be called"
If you want to go Biologis there is an advanced class in Into The Storm for rank 3 called the Genetor. The class contains skills relative to studying Alien life.
I've nearly finished my character. I changed my mind once again and went with the Arch Militant. I'm really happy with the character, but I will need a bit of help finishing the character off. I'll send you the file Daniel, and maybe you can assist a bit. One question, I picked The Hand of War Trial, and Heavy Training (bolt) along with it. How can I go about acquiring a heavy boltgun for the start of campaign..or is that something I will have to wait for? Here is the text print out of the character. *I still need to roll wounds, fate, etc* Hedmric Profile WS BS S T Ag Int Per WP Fel 28 58 40 44 36 30 39 37 16 Movement: 3/6/9/18 Wounds: Corruption Points:0 Insanity Points: 0 Fate Points: Skills:Awareness, Common Lore (War +10), Dodge, Intimidate +10, Scholastic Lore (Tactica Imperialis), Secret Tongue (Military +10), Speak Language (Low Gothic) Talents: Basic Weapon Training (Las, Launcher, Melta, Plasma, SP, Bolt), Pistol Weapon Training (Las, Launcher, Melta, Plasma, SP, Bolt), Heavy Weapon Training (Bolt), Melee Weapon Training (Chain, Shock, Power), Hatred (Chaos worshippers), Nerves of Steel, Quick Draw, Hatred (Chaos worshippers) Traits: Combat Focus, Good Bionic Limb, Face of the Enemy (Chaos worshippers), Weapon Master (Basic) Armour: Enforcer Light Carapace (Arms 5, Body 5, Head 5, Legs 5) Weapons: Heavy Bolter (120m; -/-/10; 2d10 X; Pen 5; Clip 60; Reload 2 Full; Tearing) "Gear: Void Suit, Medikit, Manacles, Micro-bead, Arms Coffer, Enforcer Light Carapace, Heavy Bolter, Bionic Left Arm (Good), "
every character starts with a free acquisition. you start with the items rarity value. For the heavy Bolter is very rare so it is a -20. second you have the quantity modifier, since you are only getting one the value is +30. last is is quality. Good quality is going to be -10. If you add the results you should be at +0 so you automatically get the Item. so you could get a Good quality Heavy bolter Mike.
Well we sure have alot of people with the hand of war in there origin path. maybe they all fought in the same war.
you also don't have to list all of the sub types for basic, melee and pistol. they are covered by the universal title, with the exception of primitive.
launchers are also a different category all together.
it also looks like you are missing some gear, you have the ability to take a good-craftsmanship hellgun, with the change from the errata you can take a best quality long las or 2 bolt pistols. Plus one primitive melee weapon with the mono upgrade. you also missed you bolt shell keepsake.
Beauty, thank you for the help Robert. That pile of text is straight from the character creator that Daniel provided. I'll add in those other items. I forgot about them!
