Toggle showing mouse to players as a gm so you can sort of gesticulate / draw stuff without drawing or point out things without using the ruler tool or yanking their camera

I sort of just wrote everything into the title haha a toggle keybind would be dope so it can be turned on/off mid dming without losing pace

The best way to do this is called "PING". As GM just click and HOLD your mouse on a point, and it will Ping (like radar circles) to make that spot light up for a few seconds. Everyone can see it. By the way Players can also do this method. Your ping color is set according to the little square color swatch beside your Player Display Name at the lower left. Note that PING only "yanks the camera" if you (the GM) hold Shift while pinging. Shift-Ping pulls the player cameras, regular Ping does not. 2nd method, you can use the Ruler tool (and turn on "Linger" mode there, if you want the ruler to stay lit-up on the map Page after you release the mouse). Players or GM can also do this method. 3rd method, use the FX tool with "Burn" mode, and you can hold a glowing particle effect to indicated places on the map page. An advantage of Burn FX is you can move and wave the burn-fire around like waving or touching parts of the map. So if you don't want Method 2 (the ruler), I would say try 1 or 3. If those don't satisfy your Suggestion, could you clarify what would work differently and how it would look / function?

Gold beat me to the "ping" method :) You could also create a "Pointer" token that you could drag out of the journal:

Pointer token is a cool idea Rick. The problem I see with that method is, Roll20 is bad at showing "everyone" the exact position of a Token that is being moved. Often-times players will not see a Movement until the token has been released/dropped for a micro-second. It doesn't usually continously animate all movements when a token is Picked-up by someone's mouse.
I don't mean ping, I mean like moving around my mouse to show for example gesticulate the shape of a snake, if I ping 6 times it takes like 30 seconds to do so, but moving my mouse in a squiggly way takes 2 seconds
the FX tool sounds nice! I would be happy if the FX tool had some generic pointer or circle, that would be exactly this even though it would lack the easy toggle and would take a bit of time to pull up

I use the measurement tool to point at things. It also has the advantage of having hotkeys (ie: similar to a toggle).

This means you program the particle effects within Roll20's Custom FX interface. I don't know what settings there exactly can make a pointer or a circle. Check into it. With your Roll20 Pro subscription you have access to program Custom FX. Read here, https://help.roll20.net/hc/en-us/articles/360037258714-Effects-FX-Tool Scroll down to "Custom Effects"
But can you point at portions of a sheet with any of the suggested ideas (I think not, but I haven't tried them)? I'd never thought of this before, and I don't know why as I often try to point with my mouse when helping players with issues on their character sheet. Some way to point at a part of it and say "you need to edit that setting here" rather than verbally describe "the middle-left box, third row, second field" (which usually just confuses them more) would be insanely helpful. I'm throwing a vote in on this, just for that use case.

Good idea Ken S., On the 2014 sheet I usually start clicking a box on/off to show them as that will be reflected on both sheets. But I can definitely see how having a pointer on a sheet would help a lot.
