Art Library: Very Confused About How It Works

Hi folks, I'm back as a designer of a game after 3 years away. I've forgotten a lot of the basics in designing a game. I'm trying to upload some maps. What I don't understand is that under Uploaded Assets, if I drag an item there to a folder I've made then suddenly there is a second item showing under Uploaded Assets. I expect it's because it has been copied, but if I have space concerns (I don't), how do I control this by deleting an image so that I have only one image in my Art_Library?  For example, the image below is a screen shot where I dragged r20image.jpg to a folder called _Razorpond IV. Uploaded Assets then refreshed to show 2 x r20Image.jpg. How do I delete the correct r20Image.jpg from Uploaded Assets? <more following screen shot> Similarly, is there any way to upload a file into a folder rather than directly into Uploaded Assets and then move/copy to a folder?

Hi Tim! Not sure why you are showing 2 copies under uploaded assets, but files in folders (the top half of the library) are just pointers to the "real" files in the bottom half. Copying to a folder does not double your files. That little double window button on the "Uploaded Assets" line is a filter that toggles whether filed items appear in the list below. I.e. when it is on, no files that are in folders should appear. Uploaded Assets is whether the files actually are, so no, you can't upload directly to a folder, since those listings up top are basically aliases of the real files. I agree that it's entirely non-intuitive, but changing it now would likely confuse a lot of folks and severely disrupt the existing organization for many users.

Thanks Keith.  It doesn't quite work that way from what I'm seeing.  I quickly ran a quick experiment by uploading GreyMountain_9_160px.jpg.  The image below shows four steps of what I did: 1st image shows GreyMountain_9_160px.jpg after uploading to Uploaded Assets. 2nd Image shows a folder open before I dragged GreyMountain_9_160px.jpg to it. 3rd image shows GreyMountain_9_160px.jpg now in the folder and 2 xGreyMountain_9_160px.jpg that appear in Uploaded Assets after it was dragged to the folder.  4th image shows GreyMountain_9_160px.jpg dragged to another folder, but Uploaded Assets continues to show 2 x GreyMountain_9_160px.jpg (continues below the image) The image below shows what the result is when I click the filter you mentioned. GreyMountain_9_160px.jpg does not disappear from Uploaded Assets, but it, and other images that had appeared multiple times, now show just once.  I agree that it's entirely non-intuitive, but changing it now would likely confuse a lot of folks and severely disrupt the existing organization for many users. Don't worry, I'm not concerned about changing it, but you have made me understand it, thanks so much. All the best,  -- Tim

The double-entries in the "Recently Uploaded" section has been happening to me since August of 2022. I sent a help ticket at that time (#98905) and got responses, but no one was able to come up with a solution. Since I religiously keep my images sorted in folders I've learned to just ignore it. I've also seen the inconsistencies with the filter that is supposed to control what appears in the  "Recently Uploaded" sections, but again I've just learned to ignore that too.

I can recommend creating an Art Library game in Jumpgate and using it exclusively for uploading and Art Library management.  I’ve found you can upload more files at once, and it preserves case, which Classic doesn’t do.

I'm learning to do the same. 🙂 Thanks again. -- Tim

I must have a go at that.  When you say "preserves case", you mean the file name? I've got a couple of games/campaigns in Classic. One has been a campaign a friend has been running since the end of 2019. I haven't thought of converting them, but maybe I don't need to. -- Tim

Yes, Classic uploads are all lowercase, Jumpgate uploads are the same case as the filename.
