This game will require payment to the Game Master at a rate of $15 per weekly session via StartPlaying.games. StartPlaying guarantees a refund if the game doesn't happen. Players will need to create an account on StartPlaying.games to join the game. While the game will be played here on Roll20, Roll20 is not responsible for any payment transactions and cannot enforce any private arrangements. New captain. New crew. New ship. This is your chance for a fresh start and by thunder you aren't going to let it slip through your fingers! The sea is calling your name, and the tide waits for no one! About the Game This is a Swashbuckling Dungeons & Dragons 5e (2024) campaign inspired by the sense of adventure and humor from seafaring films like The Pirates of the Caribbean, Treasure Island , and Kidnapped —but don't worry if you haven't seen those movies. This game is like any other D&D game using the standard Player's Handbook (2024) rules, classes and species—plus special requests like having Tabaxi as a playable species as well as including pirate-era firearms . All you need is to be 18 years or older in real life and have a love of the pirate genre. Alongside your captain and crew, you'll be: exploring uncharted islands solving puzzles defending the ship from raiders fighting for your life against creatures most strange and, of course, will be searching for the treasure! The treasure that isn't cursed...right? Because there definitely is a treasure that's cursed and we're not touching that one... right??  We'll need a minimum of 3 players to begin the adventure, and will have a maximum of 5 players. Sessions run from 5pm to 8pm UTC -8/Pacific time. Voice chat is mandatory, web-cameras optional. Discord  is used for voice chat and out of session communications. What to Expect During a Session I like to describe the surroundings and situation with enough information for players to make informed decisions, but I try to keep it brief so there's more time for players to actually play! Session 0  will be spent inspiring each other's character creations , forming connections between them, as well as the PC's relations to the setting and plot. Ideally, we will create characters so integrated to this custom campaign and to one another that it'll feel more like a  cast and not random strangers that met at a tavern. You will be charged the $15 fee one hour into the 3-hour session, including Session 0 which will have some play-time to try out character builds at the end of the session. I am not a fan of 'lore dumps' and prefer to supply players with information about the world that they would know as it comes up in game. For those that do like knowing world lore, there will be a PDF handout available to players. I provide maps for combat here on Roll20 for encounters that are expected, but I may need to run unexpected encounters as Theater of the Mind or pause the game for a few minutes to set up a map on the spot. For more information, and to reserve your seat in the game, check out the game listing on StartPlaying.games  About the DM Hi there! I’m Betsy :) This is my sixth year as a D&D 5e DM. I love running relaxed games with a heroic action/adventure tone that leaves room for comedy and character growth. (My games probably aren't for you if you're looking for traditional mega-dungeons, hex crawls or grimdark genres.) Pirates of the Caribbean, The Mummy, and Inuyasha are guiding inspirations for me: straight forward plots full of thrills and laughs. People tell me I run games that feel inclusive , beginner-friendly , and that I put a focus on storytelling . Some also say my games are "Roleplay heavy" due to the fact that I use performative voices for NPCs.
