No one alive today witnessed it, and much of what happened has been lost to time. What remains are fragments of history, ancient records, forgotten ruins, and stories passed down through generations. The First Rift also brought humanity’s understanding of Essence, a mysterious force that exists throughout the world and has become an important part of civilization. In the centuries since, the world has been governed and protected by the Council of Stewardships, a body entrusted with maintaining order, protecting knowledge, and guiding the various peoples and civilizations of the land. In recent years, a strange and dangerous phenomenon has begun spreading across Jenora. They are known simply as Encounters. Mysterious creatures appear without warning, often in places where they have never been seen before. They may remain for only moments or much longer before suddenly disappearing without leaving behind any clear explanation. No one knows where these creatures come from. No one knows why they appear. And no one knows where they go when they vanish. What was once a rare and unexplained phenomenon is becoming more frequent. The creatures are becoming a growing threat to the people of Jenora, and even the Council of Stewardships has more questions than answers. For now, people can only wonder. This land is full of mysteries just waiting to be discovered. And that is where your story begins. You are not heroes yet. You are simply people beginning a journey.
