I agree with strongly wanting a visual indicator of the Player Avatars that show when the GM is using View as Player versus a player being logged in. If I’m using View as Player then I want to see both “Playername” and “Playername [GM viewing]” as separate Avatars. I think the ribbon issue is going to be very difficult or impossible to fix with the current implementation, as it appears that a GM using the View VTT as Player is getting a popup window that literally has the player account logged in. I don’t think it’s a duplicated version of the player’s account. (Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, devs!) That login is determining which tokens and things are visible, as well as displaying that the player is now logged in. If Roll20 simply created a temporary duplicate of the player’s account, then I think what you are asking for would be easier to implement, but the implementation of duplicating the account would take a lot more to do. I think if I were going to implement a View as Player option, giving the GM temporary access as the player in this specific game instance is the simplest way to do it, and reduces other problems that would occur from duplicating an account. I’m also not sure how easy it will be to separate the View as Player from the Player Ribbon. The whole point of View as Player is to understand exactly what a player is seeing. The moment you have to deviate from that, you introduce troubleshooting barriers - the player says they can’t see anything, and it all looks correct to you, but that’s because the GM View as Player is showing a different page than the Player Ribbon. If the solution is to have a toggle that prevents players from logging in while you are prepping, then the View as Player functionality wouldn’t work if the GM is literally getting a temporary login as a player.
