Looking for 2 reliable players – Sunday campaign (Lost Mine → longer campaign) Hey everyone, I’m Mat. I’ve been DMing since 2019 and I’m looking for two solid players to fill out a group of four. Schedule: Sundays, 4:00–7:00 PM CST Platform: Roll20 + Discord (working mic/headphones and a computer are required) We’re starting at level 1 with The Lost Mine of Phandelver and planning to continue into a longer campaign afterward (currently leaning toward something with darker tones). I’d prefer players who haven’t run through Lost Mine before so everyone can experience it fresh. Table style: Roughly 60% roleplay / 40% combat. What kind of characters do you usually enjoy playing?: I enjoy playing very pulpy, over the top personalities that tend to lean more towards comedic relief with some serious emotional storytelling baked in here and there How important is roleplay vs combat for you?: I think they work best when they're in concert with one another. To that end, I'm a firm believer that it's the small, subtle moments that make the dramatic ones all the more worthwhile. Are you comfortable with darker / more mature themes?: To a point. I think when done for their own sake it can be a bit trite and contrived, but can work extremely well when meshed together with a broader narrative. I believe that dark and mature themes should be a part of the meal, not the point. How reliable is your Sunday availability long-term?: Very, especially with that exact timeframe of 4pm thru 7pm. Anything else you’d like me to know about your play style or what you’re looking for in a game?: More than anything else, I'm hoping to find a fun, high spirited way to enjoy my Sundays. I'll always view D&D as a game to be enjoyed first and foremost - and it's my hope that I'll find this table to be something that I can acclimate well to.

I think, I have vague memories of two or three encounters but very little connective tissue there What kind of characters do you usually enjoy playing? Really depends on the campaign/how I'm feeling, back in the day is was constant sad hot boi rogues/rangers, glad that's over :) How important is roleplay vs combat for you? Equally important in their own way but arm twist I'd had to lean towards rp over combat, although Monica above put it really well I think, a hard fought battle or two feels awesome but then you get those quiet campfire/on watch conversations that really compliment everything that's come before. Are you comfortable with darker / more mature themes? Definitely, we're all adults playing make-believe, so other than the obvious ones throw whatever you want at me! How reliable is your Sunday availability long-term? Pretty good, other than Labor Day vacation and the occasional friends/family event I tend to keep Sundays for my time/gaming Anything else you’d like me to know about your play style or what you’re looking for in a game? As a fellow longtime GM/DM and player, I understand the work that goes into running a game and how awesome it feels when everyone at the table shows up invested in the story we're all telling and playing well together in that fantastical sandbox. How important is roleplay vs combat for you? You need a balance of both. Are you comfortable with darker / more mature themes? Usually. Harsh themes need relalistic portrayal (omitting slavery from the Dark Sun World is absurd, for example), but I object to players/ GMs living out their sexual fantasies in a game I'm involved in How reliable is your Sunday availability long-term?. Just me and the DM at the time because no one else was interested in playing D&D, and I had never, so I told him I'd be a player in his game. Still game to this day with him, and with a bunch more friends, new and old! Have you played Lost Mine of Phandelver before? Technically, yes. I say because I played the early part of it (not familiar with the book itself, so I don't know how far we actually got), and then the group disbanded at the DMs discretion because of the stress of college. No worries on me knowing what I know about it though; I would stay in character, as this wouldn't be my first rodeo replaying a story. What kind of characters do you usually enjoy playing? I've played all kinds of characters over the years: the stupidly smart barbarian, the suspiciously knavish monk, the defiantly stalwart ranger, the beautifully conniving rogue, the arrogantly brutish paladin, the devilishly evil sorcerer...you name it, I've likely played it. I enjoy playing whatever is clever. How important is roleplay vs combat for you? I enjoy roleplay far more than combat. RPing is what this is all about, in my opinion. That isn't to say that combat doesn't have it's place. Though, I will say that a phrase that lives with me, not just in RPing but also in other mediums of entertainment: combat without narrative purpose is just visual noise. I'm not as interested in the fight that's just dropping out of nowhere simply because it's been awhile, then I am in the fight that results from a betrayal of a character's moral choices. So seeing that this game is 60/40 makes me happy. Are you comfortable with darker / more mature themes? Yes. I'm all about that, and nothing is off the table in my book, so no worry about being offensive unless it's intentionally targeted. How reliable is your Sunday availability long-term? Sunday's I have off from work, and generally don't have much to do otherwise, so it's a pretty free day for me week-to-week. Anything else you’d like me to know about your play style or what you’re looking for in a game? I'm looking to have a good time with some people at the (virtual) table. My takeaways from when I played LMoP, was not what happened in the story, but the interactions between our little group--both as characters and as players. It was a really great group, so if we can replicate some semblance of that, I will be most satisfied.
