I am recruiting players for upcoming weekly Kingsmark™ campaigns played on Roll20. Both games are held on Sundays, with two available game-night time slots: SUNDAY AFTERNOON GAME 4:00 PM Eastern 3:00 PM Central 2:00 PM Mountain 1:00 PM Pacific SUNDAY EVENING GAME 9:00 PM Eastern 8:00 PM Central 7:00 PM Mountain 6:00 PM Pacific Both games will be played in the English language and are intended for players age 18 and older . Kingsmark is a heroic fantasy tabletop role-playing game powered by Jack’s Cinematic d12 . The setting is the world of Sylva, a dangerous fantasy world with a technological and cultural atmosphere roughly comparable to the real world around the year 1200: castles, villages, wilderness, ancient ruins, dangerous roads, monsters, supernatural forces, swords, bows, armor, and powerful magic. The game combines the excitement of heroic fantasy with consequences that feel much more grounded than traditional Hit Point-based combat. There are no Hit Points in Kingsmark. Characters suffer actual Wounds . Where you are struck matters. Armor matters. Weapons matter. Serious injuries can impair a character, interfere with the use of an injured body part, leave lasting consequences, or potentially kill someone. A veteran warrior does not become capable of surviving repeated sword thrusts simply because he has accumulated a large pool of Hit Points. At the same time, Kingsmark is intended to be cinematic. Characters are heroes capable of attempting dramatic actions, creative maneuvers, desperate rescues, dangerous attacks, and unusual solutions to problems. The system includes more than 100 Actions covering far more than simply moving and attacking. Characters can grapple, tackle, shove, disarm, intercept enemies, protect allies, dive for cover, climb, sprint, intimidate opponents, assist companions, exploit terrain, and attempt the kinds of actions you would expect to see in a fantasy action movie. The basic design philosophy is simple: If you can reasonably imagine your character attempting it, the rules should usually give us a way to resolve it. 17 CHARACTER CLASSES Kingsmark includes 17 Character Classes: Man-at-Arms or Shieldmaiden Brute Barbarian Monster Hunter Beast Master Ranger Thief Ninja or Kunoichi Monk Minstrel Wizard or Sorceress Witch Shaman Healer Priest or Priestess Prophet or Prophetess Holy Knight These Classes establish important abilities and areas of expertise, but they are not intended to force every character into the same personality or stereotype. A Monster Hunter might be a hardened professional, reluctant survivor, obsessive scholar, or someone trying to avenge a terrible loss. A Wizard might be scholarly, adventurous, eccentric, cautious, or dangerously ambitious. A Man-at-Arms or Shieldmaiden could be a knight, mercenary, veteran soldier, bodyguard, wandering warrior, or something else entirely. Tell me what kind of character you want to play, and we can build from there. 5 HUMAN TYPES Every Player Character belongs to humanity, but humanity in Sylva includes five distinct Human Types: Anashim — Ordinary Humans Tzurim — Dwarves Elyonim — Elves Qatan — Little Humans Gibborim — Human Giants Each Human Type has its own physical characteristics, advantages, limitations, cultures, and place in the world. MAGIC Kingsmark includes 24 Schools of Magic containing hundreds of Spells. Magic can range from subtle effects and supernatural senses to powerful manifestations capable of changing an entire encounter. Traditional magical Classes such as Wizards, Witches, Shamans, Priests, Prophets, and Healers naturally have strong connections to magic, but supernatural abilities are not necessarily restricted to characters who spend their entire lives casting Spells. Depending upon the character, Class, and development choices, even traditionally non-magical heroes may gain limited access to supernatural disciplines. MENTAL TRAUMA AND THE TWELVE HORRORS Physical injury is only one kind of consequence. Kingsmark also includes a Mental Trauma system built around the Twelve Horrors . Characters may be affected by experiences involving death, betrayal, supernatural encounters, captivity, guilt, contamination, loss, possession, frightening discoveries, and other extreme situations. Characters can gradually become hardened against particular forms of Horror, while especially severe experiences can leave lasting psychological consequences. This is not simply a combat game. What your character experiences can matter long after the battle ends. WHAT PLAY FEELS LIKE I want the game to feel like participating in a heroic fantasy adventure rather than simply moving pieces around a battle map. Exploration matters. Investigation matters. Social decisions matter. Equipment matters. The environment matters. Character personality matters. Combat can be exciting and tactical, but sometimes the smartest decision is avoiding a fight, negotiating, setting an ambush, retreating, finding another route, or solving the problem before swords are drawn. The world is not automatically balanced around the party. Something dangerous remains dangerous because of what it is, not because the characters happened to arrive at a particular Action Star Level. Victory is much more satisfying when it comes from good decisions. MATURE GAME — AGES 18+ This campaign is intended exclusively for players 18 years of age or older . My basic Session Zero explanation is that if a type of situation could reasonably appear in a typical R-rated fantasy, horror, or action movie, then it may potentially exist within the campaign. That can include mature themes, violence, frightening supernatural material, death, psychological trauma, captivity, monsters, and other serious subject matter. The actual limits and expectations of the campaign will be discussed with the group before play begins. NEW PLAYERS ARE WELCOME You do not need to know Kingsmark before joining. I created the game, and I will personally help new players through character creation and teach the rules during play. You do not need to memorize a large rulebook before the first session. Start by telling me something as simple as: “I want to play a Dwarf Monster Hunter.” “I want to play an Elf Wizard.” “I want to play a Human Shieldmaiden.” “I want to play a Qatan Beast Master.” “I want to play a Ninja who specializes in infiltration.” “I want to play a massive Gibborim warrior.” “I want to play a thief who survives through cleverness rather than fighting.” Or simply describe the kind of fantasy character you would enjoy playing. We will build the character from there. FREE PLAYER’S HANDBOOK Anyone who is seriously interested in joining the campaign and showing up regularly for game night will receive a free digital copy of the Kingsmark Player’s Handbook . I am not expecting anyone to study hundreds of pages before playing. The book is there so committed players have the complete rules, character options, equipment, magic, setting information, and reference material available whenever they want it. What matters most is finding people who actually want an ongoing game and intend to participate consistently. WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR I am looking for adults who enjoy collaborative storytelling, heroic fantasy, meaningful character development, dangerous adventures, tactical choices, and a campaign where decisions have consequences. You do not need decades of tabletop experience. You do not need to be an expert role-player. You do not need to know the system already. You do need to be interested in actually playing, communicating with the group, and making a reasonable effort to show up consistently. If that sounds like the kind of game you have been looking for, reply through Roll20 and tell me: Which game interests you — the Sunday Afternoon Game or the Sunday Evening Game — and the basic kind of character you would like to play. That is enough to get started.
