Welcome weary traveller...to Dolmenwood. I'm looking to recruit ~5 reliable players to a campaign set in, and using the system of, Dolmenwood. The game will focus on classic exploration, resource management, and lethal dungeon delving, with some opportunity for roleplaying and social interaction as well. The Setting Dolmenwood's tone is classic fantasy adventure with an emphasis on wilderness hex-crawling and dungeon exploration. Straight from the publisher (Necrotic Gnome): Dolmenwood is a fantasy adventure game set in a lavishly detailed world inspired by the fairy tales and eerie folklore of the British Isles. Like traditional fairy tales, Dolmenwood blends the dark and whimsical, the wondrous and weird. Players journey through tangled woods and mossy bowers, forage for magical mushrooms and herbs, discover rune-carved standing stones and hidden fairy roads, venture into fungal grottoes and forsaken ruins, battle oozing monstrosities, haggle with goblin merchants, and drink tea with fairies. Here is a brief intro video and here is a playlist of bite-sized lore for anyone who wants to delve deeper. The Logistics System: Dolmenwood (Based on D&D B/X & Old-School Essentials (OSE)) Platform: Roll20 for maps/character sheets, Discord for voice. Time: Weekly, Wednesdays at 9pm AEDT. Session Length: Roughly 2-3 hours. What to Expect A rich, fantastical world: Dolmenwood is an incredibly rich setting, with detailed and facinating lore, monsters, magic and factions. The setting is a hexcrawl, and each hex has so much to discover and enjoy for both players and GMs. Player Agency is Key: The world is open, encounters are not balanced, and running away is a valid tactic. There is no overarching campaign or quest, players drive sessions through exploration, or following rumours. Player Skill > Character Sheet: Your options are not limited to the text on your character sheet. The game encourages out-of-the-box thinking and while you do have various unique skills and traits that will come in handy, a long stick and a sacrificial retainer or two can often do the job just as well. High Lethality, High Reward: Combat is fast and dangerous. Be prepared to lose characters, but also to claim incredible treasures if you survive. Gold = XP : Exploration and treasure hunting are the main drivers of advancement, with additional XP rewards for defeats foes, completing great feats, or discovering the truth behind rumours and legends. About myself I played AD&D as a young kid before getting back into D&D as an adult, playing and GMing 5e for the last decade. I recently discovered Dolmenwood & OSR, and have been keen to run a game in the setting ever since. This will be my first time running a game in Dolmenwood/OSR/OSE, and excited to get into it! As a GM I like to focus on group chemistry, working with players to create interesting and fun games, and I prioritise keeping the game moving - rulings over rules. If all else fails, I'll let the dice decide. I like to make sure everyone has space to contribute and have fun. I'm looking for reliable players for a weekly game, but as a father with young kids I also know things come up, so I'm always flexible - as long as everyone communicates properly, these things are no stress. Requirements Equipment : A decent microphone and a quiet environment. Scheduling : Able to commit to a weekly game every Wednesday 9pm AEDT. I'm Australia-based (Sydney) some ideally you're in a similar time zone. LGBT+ friendly, 18+ only No prior OSE/OSR experience is necessary : just a willingness to embrace the old-school style of play (character death is highly possible, even likely at least once in the party). I'm new to the system, I have a good grasp but we can learn together as we play. How to Apply If you're interested let me know!
