Question About Promoting Player to GM

I noticed that when in the campaign page before launching the game where I can edit the settings on the campaign and change the background and description and all that stuff that when I hover over the players I get the option to promote them to GM. Now my question is whether or not this button promotes them as a secondary GM, or if it simply removes me as the GM and lets them take over. Because if it's the former that is something I've been wanting so I can show other people who are not going to be playing in the campaign what I am doing and get tips or show them how I did something if they're asking for advice. If it's the latter than that is lame and I wish it was the former.

You won't be replaced as the GM.

In fact, it is not possible for the campaign creator to lose access to GM capabilities. Once you're in the tabletop you can go to the settings tab and click the button to re-join as a player ( temporarily forfeiting your GM powers), but that is the only exception, it is only temporary, and it is by your own choice.

If you have a campaign you only want to be a player in, you can make a link to the campaign that will always let you join as a player by: 1. Copying the launch link 2. Appending: ?desiredrole=player to get: https://app.roll20.net/editor/setcampaign/SOME_NUMBER?desiredrole=player

Hello Gaeuvyen. As other have pointed out, you do not lose your GM status if you promote a player to that Status. As the original campaign creator, you stay as GM for the life of that campaign board. When you launch and enter the game itself you can click on the rejoin as player button in the settings tab (or you can use that nifty trick that the Aaron showed). Usually most gm's create a landing pad/ holding map/ homepage map/ etc... that is the page everyone enters into when they show up in the game. This helps the gm keep the secrets of the other maps hidden. As you notice, ask a question about roll20 and you will get lots of helpful answers. Have a nice day.
Yea I did notice that I get lots of great helpful answers =D. Now if only I wasn't lazy to go looking through the forums to see if anyone has suggested fixing up the jukebox so it's easier to organize songs. Like have a pop-out window or something.

There are suggestion posts. https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1241905/jukebox-... https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1240051/music-sl... https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1243627/pop-out-... https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1241733/sound-tr... https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1247234/tabletop... Those were just ones on the first page so read through them then look through the other pages in the suggestion forums and give the one you like your vote or all the ones you like your votes.

I researched all the Sound-related suggestions on the Suggestions forum, and made an index of the ideas here: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1245252/alternat... The one most-directly related to Gaeuvyen's request for better organization within the Jukebox, is this Suggestion thread: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1241905/jukebox-...
A bit of a secondary question to this one, if i've been promoted to a secondary GM of a campaign, if i then get a supporter or mentor level account, does the primary gm and a campaign as a whole gain the benefits of that, or would i have to be the owner of the campaign for that to work?

The Campaign Owner (primary GM) determines what features are available in the campaign. If the Campaign Owner is a Mentor then (most) Mentor level features will be available to all GMs in the campaign. However, there are features which only the Campaign Owner can use regardless of account level. Any feature which is 'campaign control' is only available to the Campaign Owner. Examples include: promoting and demoting players to GM, kicking players out of the campaign, inviting players to the campaign, Transmogrifier, etc. Since you are not the Campaign Owner what you can do is gift an account to the the Campaign Owner. Go to the user's profile and click on "Give Gift Subscription".

He does in the second paragraph. Promote/demote/kick/invite/transmogrify. Also selection of character sheet, campaign name, etc.

GenKitty , Basically, any campaign controls that are set from the Campaign Details page (plus Transmogrify inside the campaign) is campaign owner only.
What a cool community we have! This is great feedback on what is means to promote a player to GM and the features they have access to in the campaign. Thanks everyone.
I actually posted a suggestion based on promoted GMs in the suggestion forum a little while ago, it would be nice if a promoted GM was allowed to access a few more features, such as the new character sheets and stuff like that. I say this because I play in a game where the current GM was promoted to GM after the campaign owner abandoned the game. We're able to play, but our GM isn't able to enable character sheets, update the next play time, things like that. There should be some sort of option to make someone else a campaign owner, or at least access some of those important features in cases like this.

Full transfer of ownership would get into some grey areas regarding content ownership. The rest sounds good to me though. :)

I agree with you on the content part. If the original creator made a map of tiles that he purchased then promoted someone to gm so they can use the map. Fine and great but if it got transferred to another member that did not own those tiles, what would happen. Would those tiles transfer to the new owner or be stripped out of the campaign because they are not owned by the new owner? That and many other things have to be thought about.
