Basic Story Progression: Assumptions: Gods are real... Magic is real... Monsters are real... These three assumptions are the core of the Fantasy World setting. In the following campaign we will use the Forgotten Realms as the starting point. This means that the campaign will use the Forgotten Realms Pantheon (the Gods). Magic will be considered rare amoungst the general population. In some places mages may be shunned, feared, or sometimes dealt with great prejudice. Monsters can be broken down into two main groups, Monsters and Humanoid intelligent beings like Orcs or Brigands. Creating a Character in this Campaign is done using an Array of the following numbers, 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 (there are no exceptions to this). These are then adjusted racially. House Rules and Variants: You can use the Human Variant (+1 to 2 Abilities and one Feat. The Encumbrance Variant is used. You can carry up to 5 times your Strength Score before it affects your Movement. Short Resting. You can take 2 Short Rests in a 24 hour period, during each one you must Drink 1 Pint of Water and Eat 1 Pound of Food. Long Rest requires 1 Quart of Water and 2 Pounds of Food. Revolving participation: What does this mean? You will have a character it will reside in a special campaign which acts as a holder for PCs and NPCs. This is like a character vault, when you join a game your character will get pulled out of the Vault by the DM and you'll be ready to go. Sessions will consist of Single Session Adventures which will be loosely tied together in an overall Campaign. When will these sessions take place? Good question, I will schedule them as often as I can, sometimes more than one in a week and other times 10 days or more may pass without a session. Do you have a time frame for these sessions? The time will be posted on the Sign up sheets for the various Adventures. This is an Edit 2/10/2015, since we started this we've run over 20 Single session adventures for over 30 different players. How will players know when a session is to take place? In the Character Vault module, I will use the Campaign Forum to Post when an event is too occur and will also post the link. In most instances I will try to have at least 24 hours notice however I could put one up on a whim any time. Geez how many players will there be? That will depend and be governed by the following: Scheduled sessions will be open for the up to first 6 players. If a scheduled session does not have at least 3 players at the starting time (7:00 PM CST) then the session will be cancelled. If a player logs in after 7:00 PM CST and there is still room (less that 6 players) that player May or May Not join the game, it will depend on the situation, i.e. If the late player can be introduced logically. How will players advance? Through XP awarded by the DM at the end of a session. What about loot? All loot which is recovered by the session's party, will be divided up BY THE PARTY at the end of the session. Party must decide who gets what or if the item should be sold. All items can be sold for 1/2 their Book Price at the end of each session, again the players must decide this at the end of the session. In the event the party cannot decide what to do the DM will decide and the players probably won't like the result. Why are you doing this? Another good question. DMs who really care put a lot of work into their games, players sometimes forget this and take a complacent attitude of, "hey I don't really know these people I don't feel like playing tonight screw 'em." This of course is not directed at folks with real issues, we all have real lives, things happen, but it's common courtesy to at least post something of you can't attend a session. I hate to say it but what is a occurring quite a bit here is THE LACK OF COMMON COURTESY! Rant over! Now back to why am I trying to do this, because it hopefully will result in having enough players to run these adventures without No Shows ruining the continuity of the campaign. When do you plan on starting these sessions? Well that depends on if there is any interest. I would like to get a Vault of Characters going and try a few sessions out . Between sessions Players may enter the Adventure's Hall, a tavern atmosphere where you can join other players for a bit of Role Playing. I should also mention I use all of the Roll20 features and the API. ANYONE who thinks they might be interested Please Post Here. Please do not PM me, I will PM back to you. Thanks for Reading This... -Ajax
I'm definitely interested and I'll add to the sentiment that most games that die because of lackluster commitment on the player's part. Keeping the sessions compartmentalized and allowing a flux of players is a smart idea, if only that after a few weeks you'll see the players that don't mesh well with the different groups or DM leave and it won't cause any issues with the game itself. I'd like to ask though, what is your plan to counter-balance the two or three hardcore members of the group that will try and attend ever session and start to quickly outpace their compatriots?
Hi Ajax, I am definitely interested. It looks like you are trying to get a sub-group of actual dedicated players, and hoping you can get 3-5 any given night to play. I would not be available any and every night. I play with your Thu night group, and weekend nights are a no go. I could play a Mon, Tue, or Wed night once a week most weeks. Sounds like variable availability may align with your variable TBA game nights. Question: do the players have more than 2 character they could draw out of the pool for any session (depending on the other PCs playing that night) or just stick with one guy? My PC ideas: Human Tempest Cleric: big, loud, boisterous human with a hammer and shield throwing around heals and lightning/thunder powers. (I also have ideas for a Hill Dwarf Life Cleric and a Wood Elf Light Cleric.) Half-orc Fighter Champion: Walk heavily and land big crits. Wood-elf Rogue: Former spy, tries to focus on archery in combat and investigation out of combat
Greetings Aaron, I am also interested in this adventure. It is good to have some real guidelines in which to build upon and follow. I would be interested in playing a Warlock one who may face some persecution if his identity were discovered, it fits with a back story I would like to play.
Hello, This campaign sounds like a lot of fun! I'm new to table top rpgs in general but hope you wouldn't mind letting me join. Sadly my players hand book won't be in until this upcoming Monday. PM me if you wouldn't mind letting me join at a later date when I get the book and have a day or so to read it through on character creation.
Hmm, sounds like it could be fun, as of now I can do Thursdays, Saturday and Sunday. I have a few concepts in mind.
To answer a few of your questions: The sessions will be balanced enough that different levels can adventure without it becoming an issue... A player may have only one living character at a time... Because of the way I have characters set up, no one will actually need a book to play, each character sheet has a Link to the Basic Rules to get anyone started. Also this probably won't start for a few weeks any way..
Very interested. I can't always be available at that time, but having a game ready to go when I am is exciting. I haven't played 5E yet, though, so I'll need help creating a character.
I'm very interested in joining your game. I've seen mention of your Roll20 wizardry in some other threads, and I'd love a chance to play at your table. I also run a campaign here, so I wouldn't be available every night, but I'm sure I could make it work on ocassion.
I'd love to join if I can. I'd have to create another character sheet due to the ability restrictions, but hey, I've already blown through about 20 characters so it's no problem.
The Adventure's Hall (campaign character vault) is ready to add characters, anyone who would like to have character for this campaign, simply request it HERE and the link will be sent to you via a Private Message. Once you have entered the Adventure's Hall for the first time I can assign you a character sheet which you can fill out, then you get to select a token and you will be ready to go whenever a Session is scheduled...
I'll get in on this. Might be busy to be at every game, so would be nice to come to the games i can.
THE WHOLE POINT HERE IS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR PLAYERS WHO CANNOT ALWAYS PLAY IN A REGULAR CAMPAIGN BUT WHO WANT TO BE ABLE TO HAVE AN ACTUAL CHARACTER WHO THEY CAN DEVELOP WITHOUT BEING OBLIGATED...
I'm ready to add my character. Fighters FTW
I'm good to make a character as well.
Please invite me, Ajax. And Merry Christmas!
I'd like a PM and am ready to fill in a character. Take your time and have a merry Christmas.
Please sign me up. Not sure I'll be able to log in to a game a 7:00 pm Central, but you never know. I'd love to get some 5e play in should the opportunity arises.
Please add me, I'd love to have a character here for those times I can play.
Happy holidays Ajax! This is the type of campaign that would work perfectly with my unpredictable schedule and situation. Won't feel guilty about missing sessions which will inevitably happen. I'm actually playing a campaign with a similar flexible schedule setup but they tend to play during the day which doesn't work for me. It may be several weeks before I get my D&d fix. I would love to sign up in your campaign. Thanks!
So Far 11 Link Requests have been sent out...
Hey ajax, I'm assuming this is to the game I'm already in, but I'll take a link to that adventurers hall
Players receiving the Link, remember you must log into the module in order to get a Character Sheet, simply clicking the Link will only get you to the Campaign Page.
I'm also interested in playing. Thanks Ajax
Thanks. It'll likely be Saturday before I get in there. But I appreciate the add.
if you're still accepting players i would love to participate
I am very interested in this! Because of my rotating schedule it is close to impossible for me to join a game that happens same day/time every week without missing sessions. Being able to just play, essentially one shots would be nice, and I'd like to get back into the role playing scene! Let me know if there is still some room.
I'd love to get my character Ashwen involved--I already have a Roll20 character sheet ready to go in my own character vault that I can import into your Adventure Hall if you like. I can't make the start time on Mondays or Wednesdays (I'm not free until 8:30 EST), but it sounds like you've got everything planned out to allow for missed sessions anyway.
Everyone here so far has been sent a Link...
The Adventurer's Hall is now open. There are a few NPCs and Monsters that are set to Player Control so you can stage combats using the built in Macros. Have fun...
There are still a number of players that have not completed their Character Sheets yet, remember you need to have your character 100% completed to play in the actual game sessions. Thank you...

The First Session, "An Abbey In Ruin" is scheduled for Friday January 2nd, 2015... EDIT: I now have several adventures completed so the event that is run will be the one most likely to fit the party composition... Just a reminder to those who received Links but have not Shown Up to create a character... And also mention you can still ask for a seat at the table and get a character in to the Campaign Vault...
Hello Ajax, I was in one of your one-shots once: good fun even if I was left unconscious in a cave surrounded by undead. I'd love to build a character for your vault and play when schedules align if there's still room. If not, best of luck with your experiment; I foresee it going over well. Thanks, Jeff.
Link sent Jeff H.
I am not sure if you are still accepting new members. However, the setup of this campaign sounds fantastic and it would be my pleasure to give it a whirl!
HI Ajax, I played in one of your 5e one shots a while back and had a great time. My schedule is currently pretty varaible, but 7 central is ideal for me when I do have a free night. This "series of one shots" sounds like a really great idea. If I can still join I'm open to playing any class, although I have wanted to try out playing a monk. Hope you had a great holiday, and wish you a happy new year! Cheers, Chris Scott
Links sent to Jeff G and Chris Scott..
Just a reminder the First Session of this Wide Open Campaign starts Friday Jan 2, 2015 i.e. Tomorrow night at 7:00 PM CST... You must have your Character Sheet Completed to be eligible to play... -Ajax
Hi Ajax! Still got a spot open? I've played in one of your one shots before. Had a great time. James
This is merely a bump to coincide with the latest event announcement..
If you're still accepting characters for your vault, I'd like to create one. Are there any restrictions on races or alignment? I assume you're already full for your upcoming session(s), but on the off chance that you're not, I'd love a seat at the table. I have a little experience DMing the 5th edition and Star Wars games, but I haven't played much D&D for decades. Thanks for considering me.
Character Sheets have been given to all who requested them....
This seems like a cool idea and if you are still allowing players in I would love an invite. It's hard to find a game because my work schedule changes every week, so it would be nice to be able to join in when I can.
Link sent to TanninKS...
Hey, If there is still room, I'd like to have a character roaming in this world! This seems like a really cool concept, and if you guys would let me, I'd love to get in on it!
hmm i wouldn't mind joining your campaign i got a char idea that would seem pretty fun and with a good open game like this i think he could shine
a PM has been sent to you...
I'd like to join as well
Hi I'm interested in joining, I'll probably only be able to play on the weekend times that I've heard you have. maybe once or twice on your normal time but not often as I am in CET :) I'd like to play a tiefling warlock/fighter with focus on melee combat.
Id be interested as well.
