dynamic lighting

Hi! I'm trying dynamic lighting for my rpg. but players cant see anything than themselves. I have set on tokens that they see and make light visible to players and I have gave control over characters to players. I gave them visibility radius and tested it (ctrl + L) I can see it working but they dont.. :(

Also make sure fog of war isn't on too otherwise everything will be obscured for them but not you.

Hello Khash and sorry to hear you are having problems. Have you looked over our https://wiki.roll20.net/Dynamic_Lighting_Examples page along with our https://wiki.roll20.net/Dynamic_Lighting ? Those two pages should give you a helping hand on solving your problem. If they don't let us know.

Hi! Pat S: I have not found on any of those pages anything I have not tried yet. Ziechael question: I have FoW turned off :( How do I simulate exactly the same conditions as player would have? ( without creating extra account) ctrl+L seems to jsut show what token should see, but maybe there are other more acurate way so that I can iterate through problems faster ;/

There is a Dynamic Lighting Style Guide that you might find useful. For Dynamic Lighting to work for your player, the player has to have a token on the board that has been set to Controlled By "That Player" and that token also has to have "Has Sight" checked from the advanced tab. There needs to be a light source in the scene with a Light Radius large enough to emit light and without any light obstructions blocking it from the player seeing the light. The light source also has to have the "All Players See Light" option checked. Also check to make sure you don't have Fog of War also turned on as that will create a second layer of darkness that has to be revealed in a different manner.
Hi! thanks, bu the link is the same Pat gave me before :D Player had control over his character they could drag themselves and they seen their characters were stopping in strange places. It was because of the walls which only I have seen, they did not seen anything but themselves. All players had I have tested token players and seen light well, they on the other hand did not seen anything but their tokens. I do not use FoW so i turn it off

For a more accurate view of what the players (as a collective) are seeing, set each token to be controllable by you (your player name and not just the GM) then go to the settings and at the bottom click 're-join as player'. Then you can see exactly what they see... it may also be worth having a 2nd tab open in your browser with you still as GM so that you can compare and see if light sources need amending etc. Can i also ask how you are setting your lights up with regard to light radius, dimming and angle of projection specifically in comparison to your distance measurements... if you have it so that 1 grid square is 5 miles but only 20 feet of light they will see nothing :) I'm grasping at straws here but really want to try and get you sorted as this must be very frustrating! One last dumb question but their tokens are on the 'token' layer right...?

'token' layer right Yes, to be honest I didn't consider to place them on other layers before. Players see their own tokens and can control them (move around) but are blocked by the walls and can not see anything but their token. Which from what I understand should be only possible on tokens layer (But I have not tried any other) I use 1 unity = 5 ft and after dynamic lighting system failed I have turn it off and set auras on players to show them their visibility radius and simply hide invisible items to GM layer until it get to their area. Those auras were exactly the distance I were expecting them to. Also I have tested beforehand dynamic lighting on all maps to checking for glitches(holes) and all distance issues should be easily noticed at this point. as for rejoining as player it seems to work as I would expect it to. I can see everything in similar way as I do if I press ctrl+L. So it seems I need to gather my players again and try to workout what they do that make their game seems completely different. Maybe its browsers or google hangout issue. Hopefully I would manage to resolve it soon :) I have unrelated question as well. I'm programmer and I have done some hexagonal framework before eg I'm curently selling this one: https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/21650 I would love to know some stats/sale stats about your store as I think I may be bale to produce a lot of map assets. I'm just not sure how reliable income source it could be.

KHASH F. said: I would love to know some stats/sale stats about your store as I think I may be bale to produce a lot of map assets. I'm just not sure how reliable income source it could be. For that you might want to email the devs at team@roll20.com and politely request some info. Not sure what type or how much they are willing to say if at all but it does not hurt to ask.
thanks :)
