I am inviting expressions of interest to replace a player who is reluctantly withdrawing due to family commitments. I am looking for one player, but will consider adding two if I find that both may be a great fit. Our sessions are weekly, Monday and Tuesday nights from 7:00PM - 10:00PM Perth time (UTC+8). [ Note: 10:00PM is the latest, in practice we try to finish up at an opportune moment sometime a little before that. ] It's D&D 5E and the group is willing to support those new to this system, so newbies are most welcome to make contact. Old-school players who are looking to revitalise their RPGing habit will find like-minded members of this group. Owning the rules is not essential; the Basic Rules are a free download and are adequate to learn to play, and those of us with the PH assist those who don't for any specifics required or additional options. The campaign started around six months ago, has completed Phandelver (from the Starter Set) and is (currently) using material from Tyranny of Dragons modules, with substantial modification. This (and any other published sources used within the campaign) is and will continue to be adapted with the intention of maintaining a long-term campaign, also incorporating aspects of character histories to promote sub-plots and additional story arcs. In accordance with what my players most enjoy there are plenty of combat encounters, frequent puzzles and a few mysteries, many character interaction opportunities (that don't always require the use of a sword or an arrow, even though some my gang tend to favour them over using words first!!) and multiple story threads. Role playing "in voice" is not a necessity, but playing to character is. As the new participant will be joining an existing group there are a number of requirements and things I am looking for: A fairly solid commitment to be available and prompt for the two weekly sessions. We all understand that occasionally real life gets in the way, but if your timezone or personal situation means you're just as likely to miss sessions as make them then please look elsewhere. A willingness to play a game to have fun. We treat the content seriously, but the highest priority is enjoying ourselves. This group has formed a great dynamic over the time we've been playing together and preserving that is a very high priority. Further to the above, we are only interested in those wanting to play characters who act for the greater good of the party. Evil alignments and/or characters with motivations that may be disruptive to the group are explicitly prohibited. An intent to be a part of a campaign intended to run long-term. To assist in that, players are expected to contribute to the development and progression of the story and will be required to develop and make available a character back-story. Further, character progression (experience and leveling) is arbitrarily managed by the DM (me) in accordance with story development and the number of monsters killed (and suchlike) are completely irrelevant. Decisions on rule interpretations and house rules (which are very limited) are generally discussed among the whole group before being implemented, but the Golden Rule is that the DM decides what the rules are and what's "real" in the world regardless of what is written anywhere else. If that is likely to not sit well with you then I am not the DM you're looking for. Also, the player who is leaving us plays a paladin and the group would like another "tank" (their word, not mine!). We have a ranger, rogue, wizard and warlock, so preference may be given to those willing to add some degree of martial heaviness back into the party. To maintain equity with the rest of the party, new characters will commence at level 3. Finally, as an incidental point, because the members of this group are all keen to maintain the group, I am looking into running other systems (particularly to cover sessions where we have one or two players absent), so we want people who are willing to try things other than D&D (and high fantasy) as well. After tonight, the campaign is on hiatus until April 20, so if you're interested please message me (preferred over posting replies here) for more information or to discuss your interests. If you contact me for inclusion I ask that you let me know where you are, confirm that the planned session times will suit you, give me a little information about your gaming experience, and an indication of the character you would like to play and the basics of any other ideas you may have. Thank you for you interest.
