escape text stops when reaching less than sign

I was trying to show some code in the chat window. I prefaced it with the escape sequence ("`") but only part of it showed, the part up to the less than sign. I tried prefacing the less than with another escape but it did not work. Is this intentional, a particularity, or can it be remedied somehow? the code was 1d4cs>5cf<0 the result is 1d4cs>5cf thanks for any help H

I'd guess it's a peculiarity of the way the text is processed, as < is the opening of an html tag. In the interim you could put < and >
