[Shadowrun 5e - LFP / Interest Check] Bi-weekly (2-3x/month) campaign starting, newb friendly. Need 3-5 people. Inquire within!

My buddy and I are looking to start a game of 5E Shadowrun, and I have (graciously) volunteered to serve as the GM. We're looking for 3-5 folks that would enjoy the type of game we're envisioning (see below), and that additionally meet our requirements (again, see below). A Few Caveats We're newb friendly, because we're both "newbs" at this point. I haven't played an RPG in over a year and he's brand new to VTTs and Roll20. We're both "newbs" at SR, although as a kid I remember reading 3rd ed. and thinking, "I hope the world in 2011 is REALLY LIKE THAT..." Disappointment. That being said, I'm well-versed with the 5th ed. rules. I'm pretty solid with R20 but don't expect fancy API scripts beyond some basics. We'll be using the SR character sheets and some handy pieces like initiative scripts, but that's it. The Game Times: We're both 9-5 guys with families, so we're aiming for a weekday game (Tues, Wed, or Thu) at night (8pm-11pmish / midnight CST). Game will be 2-3x month. Realistically we'll probably need to be flexible in scheduling dates given work schedules, etc. We're thinking of a somewhat "sandboxy" game (as much as SR can be), driven by the PC backgrounds and what the group enjoys. Ideally this will turn into a campaign lasting a good while (months?) Seattle is our preference for a setting but that is going to depend in part on what the group decides (see above). Our Ideal Group 18+. We're in our 30s and like to drink when we play, and maybe even drop the D-word (oh, drek!) Working Mic/Cam Some experience with RPGs, but this isn't a big deal (newbs welcome, see above!) We enjoy min/maxing, combat, etc., but we're not looking for die-hard powergamers People with a good sense of humor (bad ones work too, I guess the most important thing is that ... you have one?) We enjoy company that can think creatively, spell, and tell a good (bad?) fart joke. You should expect to contribute a couple of posts or notes offline, between game sessions to keep the action rolling when we meet. And, in case you're worried that as the GM, I'll give this other guy any preference.... WRONG. He'll be the most likely group member to be assaulted by a stealth pack of wared-up assassins, astral vampires, rogue Tir Nan Og Elven death shamans, or Matrix lice. Antibiotic resistance Matrix lice. You made it this far? Good for you! We're looking to seriously vet the group, so please send me a PM with some information about yourself (please, be descriptive, don't just PM me and say something like "hey saw your post i have a cybershaman can i play okay thx"). We're not in any rush to get started and instead are much more interested in finding some the right people to enjoy a long-term game with. So, shoot me that PM! Once we have enough people I'll get a campaign created and share the link. Cheers, Ben
Too bad you are in the CST timezone, else I'd jump right in. Bump for you.
Hello. I like what I see. Was wondering where it said "working mic/cam" - I have the mic but not the cam... is this deal breaker? I am an RPG vet, but haven't played a tabletop game in quite a while (I'm a quick study). I am a cyberpunk player, but since no one seems to be running that, Shadowrun will do nicely (although I might be a little messed up on rules til I can get a handle on them). Lemme know about the cam thing.
sounds like the group I'm looking for. however I can only play on thursdays because of work, and I don't have a cam.. if either are deal breakers let me know

I am interested as well. I believe Daniel S. sent you a pm about three people looking to join, but I figured I would add myself here as well. I am completely new to Shadowrun, but I'm looking for a game like this where there is not a weekly commitment. I have a mic, but no cam. Thursday is the only day that reliably works for me as well for that time slot. Friday and Sunday also work if that could become an option.

Yep, I PMed the other day, but I bet there's still room. Personally, I'm free anytime on Saturday, or after about 4:30-5 PM PST on Monday-Thursday. I just managed to get my cam working, though it tended to bog down my connection the last time I used it. (Then again, my landlord just got a new router and stuff, so maybe it'll be okay.) And yeah, I've got an idea for a street samurai. I'm hoping the first session could be a group chargen thing, just to make sure I don't screw up. Speaking of which, here's an example of the kind of newb questions I've got: is it better to start with a big fancy awesome gun (which presumably would be easy to trace, expensive to maintain and buy ammo for, and hard to replace if it breaks) or to just be a reeeeally good shot and use cheap, common guns that you can just throw away after a job?
Hey all - was out of the loop on Sunday with some family stuff, but will get a campaign going today. I'll probably ask everyone who's interested to make a short post, and we'll see where we go from there. Stay tuned!
PS - Still room! If we end up with 6+, I'll probably still invite everyone to join and aim to do a couple of one-shots to see how the group merges. I'm also toying with the idea of having a standing group of more than 6 to allow folks to sub-in when there's vacancies. SR works really well with this, I think.
I'm interested! Sent a PM. I've got lots of experience from (I think) second edition, but that was long ago. I'm an active VTTer, but I'd be pretty noob-y to SR 5e. I love between-session interactions.
Hi again, Ben--and yep, still interested. I can't speak for the other newbs from elseforum, but I assume they are as well. I've got a pretty solid idea for a character by now, as well.
I'm new to tabletop rpg's and so far have only played Shadowrun Returns & Dragonfall but I've been reading up on the game (mostly lore). I'm still trying to figure out the values of priorities. I already have several characters made up from Shadowrun Returns that I can't wait to transfer over. IKE "I-Kill-Everything" Van Trask Male Age: 25 HT: 6'2"/187cm WT: 230lbs/104kg Ethnicity: Indeterminable Metatype: ( C ) Human Attribute: ( B ) Magic: ( E ) Mundane Resources: ( D ) Skillpoints: ( A ) Positive Qualities: Ambidextrous, Guts Negative Qualities: Simsense Vertigo, Criminal SIN A product of a since "liquidated" VanTrask security company. Thought to create perfect soldiers via genetic selection and advanced conditioning regiments. From birth he was groomed to be the ultimate soldier however the conditioning didn't work. At age 12 IKE and his fellow "cadets" captured the training facility they were held at. For 3 days the "cadets" held off corporate ATF units until the parent company gave the go ahead to destroy the facility. IKE led a handful of survivors out of the facility before it was completely destroyed. They went their separate ways. IKE found himself a SINless individual in a strange city he only ever read about. Due to his charismatic nature and almost inhumane skill he naturally formed a gang which together pulled off heists in order to survive. Quickly becoming notorious in the Hell's Kitchen area and just as quickly was locked away after botching a heist. Having spent 7 years in maximum security prison he managed to escape with the help of his former gang as VanTrask Security's parent company attempted to transfer him to one of their labs. Now a shadowrunner with a criminal SIN to worry about IKE still couldn't be happier. IKE is a berzerk blitzkrieger. Hitting his targets as fast & hard as he possibly can before moving on to the next. Utilizing grenade launchers, assault rifles and a massive claymore, IKE is motivated to live up to his name. Please by all means inform me on what I can or cannot have (particularly how many qualities/negative qualities a character can have). I have a lot more interesting character concepts in varied roles. Rigel Fray: Chromed out female commando that functions as support heavy. Aiden Sarq: Scary elf bitch gang decker. Byron Turk: Pacifist troll surgeon. Huxley "No Face" Noir: Elusivesniper mage. Percival Creed: Adept assassin, cool & coy. Neith Nireed: Dwarf transporter rigger. I have some thoughts on special characters that would be more suited to NPC's for the GM to use as well.
