Info Token/boxes

I am an old Maptool User. A function I liked on Maptool and I cannot re-create here on d20 is info tokens. What I used to do is double leaving a token players could access freely. In maptool when you double click on a token you have basically access to a text box where you can write whatever you want. This way is quite simple for players to take notes everybody can read (or for you to leave notes always available to all players). Is there a way to do something similar in roll20 without using handouts (that, as far as I know, can be modified only by gm). Also another thing I used to do was to upload gamemaster screen as jpgs/tokens on the map, so players could access the tables whenever they wanted in game. Please help me making the games more accessible and easier to manage. Cheers.

If you hold the shift key down while double clicking on the token, the assigned sheet will pop up. If you have it setup to be viewable by all players, they can read the Bio's tab. You would have to assign them to control and edit the sheet if you want them to place notes on them. The handouts can be assigned to the players just like character sheets. I know of many GM's that upload the GM screens to be used as a map and others just create handouts for those sheets also. See the links below (got some fast fingers flying around here).

Hi, non. There have been some threads with ideas and techniques for placing clickable tokens with notes on the map. There is even a Suggestion over on the Suggestions forum for some new options to do this. There are several ways that can accomplish similar effects, for now. Handouts is the main way in-game to create places where everyone can write notes. As GM create 1 or more handouts "Player's Notes From Dragonland Adventure", and give viewing & editing permission to all players (Yes! You can allow Players to edit Handouts). This editable text space handout will appear in a list under Journals tab above the chat. There is a button "Show To Players" GM can click to pop-up that handout automatically when you want, or Players can find it under Journals-Handouts. Optionally, GM could create a "Character" instead of "Handout", which could then have a Token that can be placed on the map. If you make that character token to be controlled-editable by All Players, and place it on the map, then Players could find it and shift-doubleclick it to open the "Character Bio" which you could use instead for "Notes about this Place". I suggest this because Handouts don't have Tokens for placing on the map, Characters do. Characters and Handouts wiki docs, https://wiki.roll20.net/Journal Where you said "Another thing"... Yes, there is a cool way to do something like that in Roll20. Place your JPG Table on the map (whatever size you want it to fit on the map, smushed small token-size and unreadable is Okay). As GM you can select that token and press SHIFT-Z and it will pop that picture up full size in the middle of the screen for all to see, making the table readable. The way to pop it up for yourself (not to everyone) is just the "Z" key. Now if you want Players to be able to find that token and pop it up themselves using just "Z", put the JPG-Table on the token layer and set the permissions for it to be controlled by All Players. Note players cannot do Shift-Z, only Z. Hope this helps. I recommend trying the 3 techniques Handouts: Permission All Players; Character with Token and Bio section Permission: All Players, and the "Z" to pop-up and GM's Shift-Z to force pop up for all; and decide which way best suits your style. Feel free to post again any other questions.
One thing I do for my game is create info tokens. I discuss how I deal with such things in this old thread here . I set it up so I have to click on it to send the info to the players, but if you are looking for them to do it themselves you can set up a macro for them. I did something similar when the players went to a big city. I put all the npc around with their scripted chat text and merchant info encoded in their token bars. Then I made macros for the players to target an NPC and they could talk to them. This macro will not output to general chat, so it will only show up to the one using it. That helps keep chat spam down. /w @{selected|character_name} You find @{target|Info|bar3|max}... You can put it in a template if you wish. It's even possible to put the entire template into the token bars, they don't do line breaks, but other than that it works.
