Welcome and thank you for your
interest!
My name is Biff and I am representing a
small group of Roleplayers that is playing a long campaign of
Changeling the Lost. Before we get into the meat and potatoes of the
game, please allow me to tell you about the group, to give some
reference.
Our group has been playing together for
several years now, coming together locally to form a group for
Changeling the Lost. We played that campaign for a year, and then
tried some other games like Mage, Werewolf, and a long run of FFG's
Edge of the Empire. Recently, however, two of our members were
stationed overseas in Europe and schedules are such that we cannot accommodate their play times.
We have a masterful GM who is also an
actor and playwright that runs our Changeling game, and a backup GM
for other games in the form of myself (not nearly as good though!)
for when our primary GM needs a break (typically not often).
Okay, onto the important (to you!)
stuff.
We play every Tuesday from 2030 EST
till 0030 EST. We only cancel if the GM cannot show, we have less
than two players present, and/or the group as a whole decides to wait
for various reasons. While cancellations do happen, it is not that
often and you can reasonably expect to play three of four weeks in a
month if not all. The game is a Changeling: The Lost game set in modern-day Atlanta. In a
freehold run by the traditional seasonal Courts, the Georgia heat tinges
every Court, setting them closer to the anger of Summer than in most
other freeholds. The Courtless struggle for equal treatment, and the
political landscape has taken a turn for the interesting with our
players exploring the beginnings of a purer, stronger Court system based
in the Elements. The Hedge looms large, as does the tempest of conflict
in the distance. But for now, all appears calm.Ultimately,
our game centers on political intrigue and Hedge exploration more than
combat. We're very interested in exploring roleplaying and character
development more than KILL-LOOT-KILL-LOOT-LEVEL-KILL. All types of
characters are welcome, as long as you are willing to explore that
character and play it rather than look for a way to max out your killing
machine.
Our game is mostly RP, but still has plenty of dice throwing.
However, the throw comes after the RP and the difficulty of the task
is adjusted based on RP. You will be expected to play your character,
not narrate him.
Example:
The scene is your Summer Court
character has uncovered a plot to call an ancient being from the
Hedge to kidnap a Courtless. You have called a Courtless that you
know to find out what they may know about the victim. Ring ring.
"Hello?"
We would expect you to then speak to
this person and try to find out the information you want from them.
How you go about that is up to you and your character.
"Hey Shamika! Its Gideon. How have
you been?"
"Good to hear from you Gideon, its
been awhile. I've been well thanks for asking."
"I'll come right to the point
Shamika, I'm looking into the kidnapping of Mouse, and I'm betting
you can tell me what circles she has been running around in."
"Oh, I don't know Gideon. I have
been awful busy lately I'm afraid. I, uh, I am busy now in fact. I
should go."
Lets say you have some dirt on Shamika,
and decide to intimidate her into helping you.
"Now hold on there Shamika. I know
you didn't just try to brush me off, seeing as I have some rather
delicate information about you in my possession. I'm sure you just
meant you needed to check your facts so that you could tell me what
it is that you know."
At this point, the GM will ask you to
roll Manipulation and Intimidation. He will give you a +2 die bonus
for having the dirt. You roll it out, and depending on how it turns
out, the conversation continues.
If you are the type of player that
prefers to narrate activities, that would have been a far less
involved scene and gone more like this:
Player- "I wanna call shamika and
have her tell me what circles Mouse runs in."
GM- "She seems pretty busy and
tries to end the call quickly."
Player- "I will use the dirt I
have on her to force an answer."
GM- "Roll Manipulation and
Intimidate."
As you can see, not nearly as thrilling
as trying to talk your way into info. If you do well enough in a
conversation, a roll may not even be necessary.
We will also expect you to have a
decent grasp of the rules and mechanics of the game, along with a
basic understanding of the Lore and social structures of Changeling.
We will provide all books for those who don't have them.
You must be dependable. We are well
aware that many people on R20 play a session or two and then bail for
"life reasons". We want a person who can attend most
sessions. We understand that life gets busy at times, which is fine,
but we will expect any applicant to attend their first four sessions
without a miss.
If you can RP, attend regularly, and
make the effort to buy into the game then please follow these steps
to apply.
PM me with the following subject
line: Changeling Application State why you think you would be a
good fit for our group. Tell us your favorite Court system
and why. Tell us your favorite Virtue and
why. Tell us what the 8-again rule is.
If you interest us, I will PM back. We
will work out a time that you can attend a very short two hour one
shot for us to guage if you will actually RP, know the baisc
mechanics, and basically that you are what you claim to be. This will
be a good opportunity for you to determine if you actually like our
style or not.
