I'm not quite sure how to fix these issues. 1) When I copy a token/monster from the Journal it arrives with nothing 2) When I copy them from the Journal, I lose the Abilities created 3) When I try reference them with macros (like a simple will save on selected) it throws up errors left and right. I know I don't want the tokens linked to the Journal (they are just garden-goon enemies)... so I am just spinning my wheels and feeling confused here.

If they aren't linked/saved to the journal, you can't use select or target in macros with them since Roll20 doesn't know where to look for the values, the Abilities won't be available (it doesn't know what Abilities to use), and they will always arrive with nothing set up. Instead, link them but do not link the bars (you can set the up with a default value, just don't link them). See the information about Mooks here: https://wiki.roll20.net/Linking_Tokens_to_Journals This allows you to pull out your generic enemies on the fly with them fleshed out just as you had them before you linked/saved them in the journal and access to all of their Attributes and abilities. Hope that helps.
