Again captain Stormweather bid us adventurers to go on a foolhardy quest to explore the island newly freed of the mysts. I was eager to join as our exploration last time yielded little results. Horcus and I were on the last expedition to the island and so felt fairly comfortable taking some new faces with us, so joined Boris and Arklef. After the gruelingly tedious two-day journey we finally made it to and landed to the island. Although the original mission called us to investigate the goblin infested halls we agreed it to be wise course of action to spend time charting the isle's terrain. Discerning the great mound in the center to be the best vantage point for our purposes we headed there while Horcus' magical beast gave us another pair of eyes to scout for possible dangers from the safety of the skies. Unlike during out last venture I was no longer amazed by this man's ability to view the world as he was the eagle itself. Some time later we had made our way up to the peak of the mountain. To the best of our abilities we sketched the outlines of the island's outer and inner features onto parchment. While surveying we took notice of what seemed to be a cave on the northern side of the mountain as well as another mountain further north whose appearance disturbed some of my companions. The cave was the close objective so we headed there. Again the party promptly took on Horcus' proposal to let his bird scout ahead. Following large tracks the bird flew into the dim cavern only to be faced by a great lizard-like creature with numerous spines protruding from its body and some seconds after, an abrupt end. It took little convincing and describing the beast to quench even Boris' lust for battle, the losses we'd suffer taking on the monster wouldn't be worth the trouble. And so we continued our march north soon arriving at the foot of the mountain we had noted to be different from the others. Up close it was revealed to be like any other pile of dirt, not even the faintest dweomer sullying its slopes. Still unnerved, the party came to travel back to spend the night where did last time on the island. In a couple hours time we had set up camp, had dinner and so were ready to get some needed rest, the day had been long and filled with traveling across harsh environment. The tranquility of our sleep was interrupted briefly by a goblin troupe who me and Boris promptly drove away, and to the delight of our soft-hearted companions, without conflict. Just as we were breaking up camp the next morning another who was with us on the isle on the first trip, Rurik the dwarf, appeared at the camp and insisted to come with. Apparently he also had traveled on board the Mayweather but had for some reason not joined us on the first day. My guess is that he had been occupied with drinking skullbuster with the crew! Anyway, soon after we began a climb onto a hill east of our campsite to get a better view of the area beyond. Farther to the east I noticed a flock of very large birds circling something, what it might have been none of us could make out nor had interest to go find out. It was at this time some members of the party, namely Boris, were starting to get quite anxious. This was to be our last day on the island and we had in their mind not made enough progress. And so the decision of returning to the catacombs before the obelisk was made. The lower level of the place was yet unexplored. In an hour or so we had made our way to there. The goblins let us pass without resistance, the reason for which would soon come apparent to us. The winding corridors held ancient tombs guarded by fell skeletons, animated remains of those long dead. Soon we found ourselves under attack by the beings. Just after managing to bring one down Arklef was struck down by another. There was nothing any of us could have done for him. He was hit squarely in the heart and brought down in one blow. The terrifying creatures strikes shook you to the core, each swipe doing more damage than what was apparent from the wounds. Dispatching them proved easy enough although one should note their troublesome ability to bolster their own legion with bodies of fallen enemies, which they did with Arklef. Luckily two precise hits of a hammer was enough to drive the undead monsters' evil presence from our deceased comrade's remains. Wounded and spent from the encounter we made our way out of the fell chambers and outside of the complex for we were in the urgent need of a breather. In the hour's time we spent outside resting two more adventurers made their way to us, reinforcements from the ship. With the aid of out newfound friends Gabriella and Kaurik we pushed deeper into the darkness of the timeworn tunnels. Deeper down the tomb's walls were in noticeably rougher shape. Many walls had collapsed and broken tiles lay every which way you looked. We soon became familiar with Kaurik's obsession to try and divine the consequences of our every move which greatly slowed down our advancement. After a half an hour or so we came across a huge room in the center of which stood an altar, flanked by on either side by a pit of lava. A statue resembling the ones we had seen before stood on the altar surrounded by a pile of coins. Horcus and Rurik took brief interest in the statue however soon abandoning their investigation. Beyond the altar hall we found corridors housing series of pipes and vents from which spilled vibrant green liquid. The substance was clearly not of safe composition but Rurik foolishly couldn't resist having a look. He was jumped by a gray sludge-like creature whose touch corroded metal. Two quick bow shots later the freak of nature gave up its will to live. Soon after we came to a empty hall which clearly was a trap of some nature. Equally fearless and dumb, Kaurik cast a feeble protection spell on himself and rushed through the room. He did not make it far until he sprung a trap, triggering an earthen guardian in the shape of a pair of gigantic hands to appear. The guardian demanded Kaurik solve a riddle or be killed. To our amazement he managed to solve the guardian's riddle in short order and was so granted passage to what we believe to be the last chamber of the dungeon. The joy was short lived. An incredibly strong supernatural effect emanated from the area ahead preventing any and all advancement. A swift call for retreat was made and so the party escaped the fell crypt. Now short on time we had no choice but to hurry back to the Mayweather or be left stranded on the island for who knows how long.

RP Session: Who? Hoohoo!

Participants:
Mindartis
Marokin
Malacus
MLord Hoohoo

We left the burrow, and with we I mean Erolith and me, and made ourselves on the way along the coast. I was already curious about this person Erolith had been rambling on about: a demon dim called Malacus. Apparently a being of great power that had asked about me. Regardless, Erolith was convinced that he could help us in finding a way to find Syvil and hopefully free him.
We arrived at the place and saw a black tower there, right next to the sea, though that was not it. I was later informed that this tower calls forward storms and is used to destroy approaching fleets, though these devices have not been used since the time of the Sithi. Malacus' place was different, at least as magical, and placed in vicinity of this tower since he planned to study it.
Long story short, Erolith whispered some words and a voice bid us in. Some sort of magical curtain was placed and through that we slipped and found us standing in front of his home. This place through magic was much bigger inside than the outside would have let anyone imagine, and besides that much more in disorder. How he can maintain focus on any task is beyond me, but at the beginning there was nothing I could do but wonder about all the items and books he had collected. He must be older than even Cain, by a far margin, older than Erolith and perhaps even older than Ulrich and Oswald. I randomly touched a book and found it incomprehensible, even through my magic.
We started talking about our request and it was revealed that Erolith had some sort of pack with this being. He told us that Syvil was kept barely alive and is kept on Bael's Island in the monastery of the assassins. He showed us a person that looks similar to DeCoursey and I practised my imitations of him. Erolith in the meantime said in a foreign tongue that my magic revealed to me, that he plans to kill Syvil since he might reveal information that could undo all his planning. Apparently this has to do with the visit of the emperor and the lady of the cave that the goblins now worship as a goddess.
I am hoping there is another way and so asked if there is a way to shield us, like Erolith had mentioned, from the divination that the empire uses to find someone. Malacus revealed to us that there is a monkey god by the name Hoohoo that seems to be into playing tricks... he received the form of a monkey after he had annoyed some other gods and one of them transformed him into that being he is now. We were send there by Malacus via a teleportation spell. This again is a spell I have heard rumours about, it seems to be rare and only the mightiest magic users are capable of casting it, yet it seemed to be barely worth his attention. I feel most of what belongs us merely mortals is too insignificant for him. Not sure whether that will make him a person that endangers us.
After the teleportation we stood infront of the temple. Since this Lord Hoohoo was introduced to us as a trickster god we could circumvent his traps and finally found ourselves in a large room. There were apes all around that threw dirt at us and MrMocsi did an excellent job at throwing dirt back at them. He played some tricks on us and then asked us what we wanted and that in exchange we will need to play some "good tricks" and offer something for his collection. When we said we wanted his help so that the Empire won't be able to find us he turned us into lizards, telling us that they never will find us like this. That might be true but was far from helpful for us, still, unable to do anything we spend some time as lizards. I do not even recall how much time passed... but I am quite happy to no longer be inside the body of a reptile.
Eventually he allowed us to rephrase our question and gave us a protection that to his accord should protect us from every gods detection for a limited amount of time. We left the temple and were instantly brought back to Malachus' home. I said my goodbye to both of them while Erolith stayed with the demon dim who never really revealed to my why he had asked about me and what he wanted...

Session 48: More Shadows, less puppets, more organ

Horcus
Gabriella
Gaxx
Boris
Donella
Nathanael….
And myself, Kroasi Hoful of the Vale

To the Thalidd himself,

I know I promised to inquire what has happened in the Dwerrondeep, alas I have been occupied in preparations and then the mysts revealed this island and were said to soon close, so I took this last chance to explore it so that you may hear about it.
I found out in the meantime that this place was once and island like any other, populated mainly by humans and under the watch of two worshipped beings: Vu and Ra. Eventually a disease appeared and took many lives. They called it the green plague and it killed grown ups within a short span of a few months, yet the children survived but were transformed into goblin like small creatures.
These had been encountered before and apparently the confrontation did not end too well. But this time, when I arrived, we did not encounter them at all. Some of the people I travelled with had already been at this place. So they led the way too the entrance of a cave or a fane, as it turned out. Though even before we reached that point I could feel the spirits crying out in pain and despair. Some shadows were ripping through the balance of the world and causing turmoil.
Finally we managed to have a look at the grave and shadow tendrils were streaming out of it, alas, light could push them back. This was to Nathanael’s delight as he called himself a follower of the emerald flame and bringer of light. While we entered and explored the corridors of the crypt he kept on (and on!) talking about his light but effectively there was not much gained by his talk. Eventually Boris started mocking the man and though at the beginning I had to chuckle myself I soon did not know whether to pity this presumptuous and condescending cleric or the half orc for his need to gain joy from causing sadness in other people.
On the other hand I have to say that Boris proofed himself to be a good fighter and a reliable companion, though not the brightest, but what he lacked in this regards he made up in valour and battle prowess. I am digressing, but I think it will also be interesting to you, Thalidd, which characters in this area might turn out to be good allies. I would also recommend the half-orc for his political views.
To come back to our exploration: we found that the goblin kids that had been described to me had vanished and when we delved further into the fane we discovered why. We entered a room that contained a brazier containing some gold and which had walls that were covered in shadows that not even an arrow illuminated by Nathanael’s light spell could pierce. There was also some lava in two basins to the side. When we approached we heard a voice taunting us and a shadow plucked one of the gold coins and pushed it into the lava.
The gold sizzled and vanished and suddenly we were surrounded by snakes made of fire with shadowy eyes and small skeletal beings that came in excessive numbers. I barely managed to keep myself up but 2 of my comrades were not as lucky and had to be helped up by magic means. Gabriella and Boris proofed there worth thrice alone dismantling at least a dozen of the shadows. I was also pleasantly surprised at Horcus’ performance who had greatly improved his fighting skills since our last common mission.
There is something strange regarding this halfling woman, but I will keep this for a separate letter. I also lost my focus in some instances and she told me that I had said things to her I could not remember myself, but the poor girl was so upset I did not dare to say anything. I don’t know what it is, but when I first met here there was an uneasy spirit around her which I could not sense anymore.
Regardless, it took quite some effort and in the end we prevailed though at the cost of one of Nathanael’s eyes that must have gotten singed by one of the fiery snakes. I was very impressed with the endurance of the half orcs who kept fighting beyond what a human could bear. Gaxx, who does have a negative reputation for having slain some of these goblin children, took a blow that would for sure have felled at least me. Yet they continued fighting. I do not know their standing with the orcs but most likely they would be a good asset if we were to drive out the evil from the dwarven city.
We retreated to the outside of the cave and made camp to recover and decided to dive deeper into the dungeon on the next day. When performing one of my rituals I was disturbed by the sound of an organ that played and seemed to be involved in the cause of the unrest and in balance. This proofed to be the case as we later discovered.
Also Nathanael had apparently had a vision of that sorts and his god had told him of an organ. When we went back the next day in some rooms a voice spoke out to us and Boris had apparently encountered it before and was daring it to show itself and to stop playing its riddle game, the voice though claimed there were no more riddles, only death. We finally reached a room with a lot of shadowy tendrils across the room and Nathanael moved forward saying his prayers and walking boldly or perhaps jaunty as he is into a corridor. Horcus was next and then we all followed suit. At the corner to the corridor though tendrils were lashing out and in the end managed to hold onto one of my companions and then the floor around them gave way. Gaxx provided us with items to allow Boris and Gabriella who had still been in the large room to follow us.
We moved along the corridor and found foul book and the voice was daring us to destroy us and I am convinced we should have burned it on the spot. All of the others disagreed but I am certain it would have eased the later parts of our journey. I tried to do it but was stopped by Boris who just grabbed me and dragged me away. I later on reconsidered, the book should still be destroyed but one should guard oneself against the consequences.
Boris dragged me along to the other side of the corridor where Nathanael and Horcus started opening a tomb which appeared to hold a female avatar. They tried to lift her out of the tomb and we could see that those shadowy tendrils had attached themselves to her body. This apparently was enough to loosen the grasp this entity had on her and she told Nathanael that she would open a passage. We heard some grinding of stone coming from the other room and we went to see what had passed.
Multiple secret doors had revealed themselves and we made for the first one. Horcus in a lapse of mind entered the first one and pulled the lever that was inside of it. The stone wall pulled shut and we did not know what happened to him. We made for one of the other rooms. Gabriella, Gaxx and Boris went in but we had no sign or knowledge of what Nathanael and Donella were doing.
The platform, when we pulled the lever, descended though I had held onto the wall in precaution to avoid any traps. I descended after the others to find that there were oozes littering the floor. What though caught more of my attention was the sound of the organ, it was coming from a corridor. I glided along the ceiling making my way to that instrument and trusted my companions to take care of themselves and the oozes.
After crossing a sewer of acid water I finally saw the organ and started undoing the arcane ritual that had been cast on it. The noise of it though proofed to be quit distracting and the work took me way too long. It actually took long enough for that evil presence to spawn more oozes and direct them to me and it tried to stop me. As I was almost done I realized that 3 oozes had made their way too me and started attacking me, but alas, Boris came to help and he helped me by pushing the oozes off. I managed to finalize the suspend the charm and was about to escape when one of the oozes lashed out on me and I fell unconscious.
Blackness was all I could see and then the smile of a young woman, but before I could see who it was I felt the taste of a goodberry in my mouth and came back to consciousness. Searing pain struck down my left arm and when I looked I realized that my hand was missing, though the shield was still strapped to my arm. Another ooze tried to finish the job the others had started but failed to get passed my shield. I then stepped into the mist and moved myself away from them, only to see more oozes. To my luck another druid called Tanyll had sold me a potion of healing and the magic did its work and I soon felt much better.
Coming back to my senses I heard more noise from down the corridor. I peeked around the corner and saw that Donella was lying on the floor and an ooze was dissolving her foot. Again, stepping through the mist, I managed to get close enough to pull the ooze of her using my whip of thorns. Nathanael then managed to shove one of the berries I had provided into her mouth and to revitalize her. How he did so, is a miracle to me, as I looked at him I realized that also his second eye had gone dark.
We finished off the oozes and healed some our comrades to return to the avatars, hoping they were now save and returning to their form. Nathanael started talking to the female one and Donella moved away the cover of the otherone. Imitating what Nathanael was doing I put my hand on it and I could hear parts of the conversation the female avatar was part of.
Nathanael was then walking off and as I heard the last parts of the conversation I feared he might be going to destroy the book. I was still talking to the other avatar when I heard a scream coming from that other chamber. We rushed off to see Nathanael on the floor and the book burst in flames. A sigil was forming on his neck and unfortunately my knowledge of the religions of these areas do not suffice to tell you what it was associated to, but later on Donella said it felt undead to her.
The avatars seemed pleased with our work yet they were very week, I asked them whether they could help us recover our wounds and they granted my wish and my hand was regrown, Donella was not as lucky unfortunately and I feel bad for having taken maybe the remaining power from the avatars for me instead of having them help the young girl.
Though when we were there and they used their power, I suddenly felt the chill of another foul presence from an area not far. I thought it was somewhere behind the wall but we could not find a secret entrance or something of sorts.
The avatars returned to their sleep and we left them after hey revealed that there lurks another big evil on the island, thus it might be need to eventually come back and get rid of it. That evil was revealed to be called Tytus. Also someone called Brabeus was mentioned but I have yet to find out more about these people.
We left the fane and made back for the ship, leaving this island behind. I am glad and saddened at the same time, glad we all survived, sad that it still took a big toll on us and I was not able to protect these people and that instead it was them that had to protect and save me at times. Dear Thalidd, I will inform you should any more news occur.

May the spirits guide you and your tree never wither.
Kroasi

PS: When I return I will have to talk to some of the drueth, especially one that taught the ways of healing to me. His claim that the rear of a male person is an especially receptive point for healing seems to prod confusion among the people I have encountered and I will abstain from it in the future and test whether I can notice a difference in my healing. Should I find out this was one of the old geezers’ jokes, let them know I will be taking good care of their receptive points.

Session 49: The Fane of Arsha, Pt. 3 (face-to-face)

Present:

Seeker; Human Rogue lvl 2 (Jon)
Archer; Half-Elf Ranger lvl 3 (Daniel)
Constantin; Human Wizard lvl 3 (Josh S)
Desna; Elf Druidess lvl 2 (Pippa B)
Trabon; Dwarf Cleric lvl 2 (Glen)
Kaar; Dragonborn Paladin lvl 4 (Thai)

Dear Linny,

More people joined us on our adventure today; Kaar the Dragonborn and Trabon the Dwarf. They arrived while we were resting and recuperating after our battle with the oozes. Me, Archer, Desna and Constantin went out to try and find anything in the area we could use or study. We managed to find some fungi which was blue inside. We ate some... It was tasty.

After that we walked back into the room with the oozes and ventured forward into the next room. It was dark so I lit up the room with my bow, revealing the room to be filled with water, and a large pile of wooden crates and assorted items in the center. On the left side of the room, the lights revealed two giant nostrils in the water. I fired another arrow near it, showing that the nostrils belonged to a giant humanoid with two heads. Those of us who were in the room, cautiously moved around him, while the others were searching the room we'd just fought the oozes in.

At the other side of the room, a group of five fish-frog people approached. I went to them and said 'friendly?' in every language I can speak, they spoke back in Low Valmari. After a quick conversation where I tried to gain their trust, they pointed at the giant and asked if he was awake. I said he wasn't, to which they turned and ran. Before they could leave, I asked them if the giant was 'friendly?' They said 'no.'

At that moment the giant awoke, and approached the party. They asked if we had any presents for it, 'if not, we'll eat ya!' I foolishly tried to get them to argue among themselves to stall for the others. The giant realized this, got angry and started towards us. I quickly asked if two gifts would suffice as an apology, to which they - after arguing about it - agreed it would. I gave them a jar of honey and a guiding arrow, which being magical, pleased them. They mentioned that with enough magical items, 'maybe she'll come back.' The giant then turned to the others and asked them if they had presents for them. After it became apparent that the others didn't have gifts, the giant said 'Look, we've already eaten some of those fish people today, so we can't be bothered to eat you. So you can go through, but only if on you're way back out, you give us something you find in there.' Relieved, we accepted the deal, and moved to the next room. On the way out the giant said 'and turn the light out! I'm trying to sleep!' So I turned the arrows off.

In the next area we came across two paths, both appeared to have been created by something burrowing it's way through and didn't appear to be very stable. We asked Colodus which way to go, and he said to go right. As we were walking down the path we were ambushed from beneath by three creatures; one in front of us, and two behind. We defeated them with only Trabon falling, but we recovered him. As we moved on, we noticed the fish-frog people tittering in the corner of the room.

Well, we're about to head on again. Hope you're doing okay, as well as Emerald of course. Give him an apple for me.

Love, Ffiona xx

Just as a note the avatars were named Va, and Ra. It appears the island was named Vara in their honor.

The Sound a Trap Makes pt2

I had left Haven isle expecting to join the party in trying to get our companion Raven and assure his safety. As I had gotten off the ship ready to join my companions Knight-Captain Timos pulled me away in order to aid him in getting the camp ready to leave and head back to Haven isle. I was sure he was longing to see his family so I made sure to help with that so he could be on his way to haven to greet them as soon as he could. I had been working with him and the others of our company when we started hearing strange stories and rumors of some mad woman’s antics and the rest of the companions I had met before. I do not know the full story but they did indeed get ahold of Raven. With my task complete I set out to meet the group and so I did happy to see our companion in one piece. He gave word for me and the others that we would not cause harm and let us pass the checkpoint.

We were apparently on some mission the locals had put Raven onto and went to the Fane of Imac which was the first area to be cleared by us on the island. We went there to meet one of those wolf riders who explained in more detail of our task and what we needed to do. We were apparently supposed to go to an old mage abode and get an item from its storage. So we left the Fane and set out to do so. On our journey there when we were walking a sudden rumble came from the earth and a massive creature that I was familiar with attacked us, it was another bulette. The beast instantly took a bite out of me and knocked me out for a moment to be instantly brought back by our paladin friend. The beast seemed to take a liking to me and kept relentlessly attacking me most of the time my spells and armor were enough to keep it at bay but another time it took me up in its jaws and surely would have split me in two if it were not for a ward I had up. My companions by then had battered the creature mostly from amazing shots by Raven. I had enough of this bastard trying to munch on me and so I dove under the creatures mouth pushed my shield into its chin and managed to topple it jumping on and crushing its soft belly with my Warhammer. After the beast was finished we made our way to the magic halls without any more problem.

We had made our way into the entrance of this place to be met by some strange orb lying on the ground and once we crossed the barrier that nullifies outside magic it activated and tried to get some type of identification from us which we did not have. Of course it being an alarm system attacked us and we managed to defeat it fairly easily. And we were met with more throughout the tomb and finished them as well. We cleared the crew quarters that were there making sure no trap or enemy lie in wait for us. Once we had spent some time on this and completed the task we moved on and found a bridge with more of those orb sentinels the only thing noteworthy was some strange creature that fell from the cave ceiling and latched its self onto ravens head. We opened up the door to the room and found an orb that destroys anything that touches it and we were unknowing of how to disarm it, after some debate decided to check the other rooms and after destroying more sentinels found a study. Lil is quite the perceptive one finding a hidden door that had an elemental guarding a large chest and the girl had communed with it trying to get information. After doing so successfully and learning we can end its watch and get to the chest we continued into a small basement where we overturned a stone and found the combination to the trap set on the chests.

Once this was known we swiftly figured out the puzzle of the tones and continued on our way collecting the items from each round chest finally on the last one getting the strange orb that we were sent to retrieve. And after we had completed the task the elemental was gone and we were free to take the items from it. We then were ready to leave when Von wished to take a barrel with him and when trying to open it a mass of crabs sprung from it and chased the man, it was quite entertaining. We went back to the Fane of Imac without incident and returned the item and were given a warning that the other two items we had gotten were likely cursed which was later confirmed by the horses. After this our task was complete and we were free to head back to haven carrying some pride with us of a task well complete. I did take some of those sentinel orbs with me and I am wondering we can find how they are created. I am sure some of my brothers in the Fists would be glad if some minor watch points were taken over by these things so I shall send one of them for the White horses to study.

+the whole town

A short time after we came back from Khulican the competition between Von and Gabby for who would get to keep the troll claw neckless began. We had some discussion between the 2 of us on what we would do and it just so happened to of happened in the tipsy mermaid. Adolfo having heard are conversation he decided to make it into somewhat of an event. It was decided that there would be 3 events a sparring match, a drinking competition and finally a race around the town.

I will say this now so not to seem as though I am trying to hide this. There wore definitely some sort of shenanigans going on jurying the events though I do not know who was the one or ones to have bin interfering, but I will say it definitely made the competition much more interesting.
The first even when to Gabby. In retrospect I relay should have known better then to challenge a monk to a bear knuckle brawl I relay should have demanded a sparring match I would have had a much better canes if I had. It was a rather short match before I when down and was quickly revived buy some local cleric and the competition continued.

The next event was a drinking competition ended in a tie. There wore serval moment were I felt that it could go either way but at some point it the scales tipped and I won the competition though it was very close but it seems gabby passed out at the last moment.

The final competition was a foot race around town. It seems that in are drunken state we wore convinced to run the race naked. The race had a goal it was decided that we would chance a goat with an item we found in a temple on Khulican, as far as we can tell it was problem some sort of fertility idol shaped like a large black cock made out of obsidian. There was some magic cast on the goat to make the game for fun and this was the longest lasting event. The race took us all over town. The race was a great time and brought in people from all over the island together for the fun. I almost won the race but at the very last minute some jack ass in the crowd sucker punched me and knocked me out I tumbled over the finish line as gabby ran past and grabbed the cock off the goat but and she claimed victory. I woke up some time later and pulled my clothing back on and congregated the winner Gabby.

A statue was erected in the center of the shopping district some time later of the two of us sprawled out on the ground, myself passed out and gabby sprawled out on top of me holding the black cock up high. It was decided that the events of that day would be named the festival of the black cock and would become a yearly event.

(Forgive me if I forgot anyone in this first part!)

I thought I was to write this in hopes of saying that my journey to right the wrong that happened during my first trip to Khulican had been completed...though it would seem that fate had other plans for me yet again..I suppose I should explain. Before I was to head to the ship to sail to the great island that is Khulican I had prepped myself like I usually would before a big trip: Collect my ingredients for my cooking, A prayer at the burial ground for my sister and of course my daily training out in the caves. I do this about every day trying my best to better myself and attempt to be as prepped as a normal person should for any given danger, anyway I slept that night and awoke early doing my daily stuff as I explained and decided that the best way to go about fixing my wrongs was to get help and the best place to seek such help was none other than the Tipsy Mermaid! I had took the ferry there where the old man that loved betting would always be waiting...I didn't want to give him the benefit of my attention so I kept talk with him to a minimum and waited until I made it to Haven. I walked the familiar streets determined and stumbled into the tavern where the group of the names listed above were talking Adolfo was also there of course apparently he was there to meet with his potential new Blue Sashes Torreil a mysterious person who is the older brother of the famed and now dead Reskin, And there was also Inkara the very strange woman who had a weird obsession with finding very large squid. Honestly I had expected a much...well if I had to put it in more polite terms I wished for a more sturdier group but I was not gonna complain and I really didn't want to in front of the giant that is Adolfo.

After much talk in the Tipsy Mermaid the group and I finally managed to get out of the Tavern with everyone surprisingly together we set off toward the ship that would take us to Khulican but not for my reason's but to find Raven a man I once met during my ventures in Khulican, apparently Lil last saw him and wanted to find and make sure he was okay. I agreed to help because Raven had been such a nice fellow out in the island but I stressed the fact that I needed to seek out my vision that I had...yet I doubted it they agreed that they would help If I accompanied them with their trial. The trip on the boat felt very long and drawn out for the most part I kept to myself and cooked up my pies, I must of been distracted during the time because I messed up a few which I kept but after ward I made much better ones which everyone on the boat enjoyed, I even left one of the perfect pies with The Gull. Anyway after a few days of sailing we made it to the island and departed with The Gull again to find what we thought would still be the camp instead we found something even more amazing! A lot of Dwarves were there and using very large horned creatures that I came to learn are known as Mammoth's, they were using them in a very unique fashion as if they were meant for picking things up and building even! As I watched this one of my Party members was enthralled by these creatures that we had a hard time keeping her in check, during our traveling time we had numerous moments where Inkara were to vanish..we would find her messing around with one of the mammoths luckily Saubaufin was there to pull her away most of the time and warn her but I felt that his warning went through one ear and out the other with her.

Eventually we learned from the Captain that the Dwarves who were the rightful inhabitants of Khulican apparently had issued that travelers had to stay within the border of where most of the iron fists and other's stayed. It felt strange really it hadn't felt long since I was last on this island yet everything felt so very different..as if It was yet again my first time on this island. We learned that there was a way to further traverse into Khulican yet it was not to be very easy, yet we traveled to the border where travelers were to pass to get further into the island after trial and error trying to communicate wit even myself drawing a portrait of Raven to show to the Dwarves letting them know who we were looking for we eventually learned that we needed passports in order to get through the border and it was priced and an astounding eight hundred gold pieces per passport. We came to the conclusion that none of us carried enough with only me carrying about half we turned and tried our chances trying to convince the Captain to maybe provide a good word for us or maybe even a great amount. While we were walking though one of the dwarves had quietly called us over and offered us an alternative...Skull Buster I don't know how Adolfo's advertising works but his brew is always on people's minds, I obviously agreed telling the Dwarf that I would have Skull Buster for him in no time! Yet it would prove that even the act of gaining some booze around here is mentally trying due to the utter assholes that is Sailor's, You see on my way back to port I learned that a captain had just arrived carrying a large amount of Skull Buster with him I took Torriel and Saubaufin along because they claimed to have a way with words apparently. Yet upon arrival Torriel was immediately kicked out due to him having a hovering ball of flame near the ships, with a ticked off captain I was reduced to simply telling him i'd pay double for the Skull Buster he replied stating that it would cost me five hundred gold pieces. I payed the man without issue and he happily took my gold and tossed a crate over board and told me to go fetch..I told him he would be wise to not piss off a Greatoven...but that didn't seem to deter him. Anyway the group and I got the crate and checked to see if the contents were indeed Skull Buster and we had Lil use her magic to dry everything off including us.

After that little detour we made our way straight back to the Dwarf and gave him his booze in exchange for the passports, he seemed very happy when he confirmed that the bottles were Skull Buster and we got our passports which had a very strange symbol on it that could only be formed through some weird magic that I had never seen. Once that was settled it had already begin to grow dark and the Group decided to head back to the ports where most of the remaining iron fists had set up to rest for the night, we also did the same always contributing and keeping watch of course. During that time it would seem that Inkara had got sick and was in the...ladies room to relieve herself...yet she claimed she wasn't fit for the rest of the adventure so she insisted she stay behind for the quest, Torriel also stayed behind for reasons unknown to me but that wasn't the worst part it would seem during the morning Raven had come to find us instead of the the opposite of us finding him...it was good to see him but a smaller part of me felt a bit ticked off having to deal with all of the non sense just to have him find us....regardless it was great to see he was okay. We caught up and had breakfast sharing some pie of course but during breakfast Raven spoke and told us of this artifact that he was tasked of finding somewhere, with two of our party members already missing I was reluctant to go but later that morning I was surprised to find Von and even Horcus. With old friends and new I re-gained my confidence and  agreed to help Raven however I could along with the others, and with that we finished our breakfast and set off to find this Artifact. Horcus insisted that he write the remainder of this adventure so look out for that fellow adventurers and stay safe and smart!

(Spoken aloud as he cannot write)

Hello! The name's Boris! Hahahaha!

Recently, being strapped for cash, I've been going for a bit of adventuring! That led to me getting on a ship the other day and going to the Fei Isles, I think, I dunno, I forget! Anyway, to cut a long story short as I always do, we got there and hung about in this camp that the Iron Fist had built! While most of us were lounging around at camp, Sirius went off for a little scouting! Though he ran into a little trouble! He didn't tell us what happened, but when he came back he was covered in arrows! I mocked him of course, thanks to my time hanging around with Jon at fight club! Afterwords I felt a bit guilty so I offered him some ale! He seemed alright with me after that!

The following day after we had breakfast at the camp - bacon - we started south-east towards our destination! I was told our goal was to find out what had happened to a party of Iron Fist people who had been missing for three weeks! On our way there, we were jumped by four Giant Rats! I headed straight into the fray - as I do - while the others fired arrows from the trees! Though Lux did join me after a while! Anyway, while we were fighting, a fellow who goes by the name of Raven joined us! We killed the rats and the party healed me! Though we looked around and noticed Horcus wasn't there anymore! Very odd! Anyway, we continued on south-east!

As night was about to fall, we decided to set up camp. Raven hunted some game that I cooked. As we ate, I told the story of how I came to Maladon! Raven shed a tear listening to the story! I like him! I like them all actually! Very nice people! In the morning, two more people arrived! Von and Rodrey! Pleasant chaps! After I cooked the breakfast that Raven had hunted, we carried on moving south-east!

We got to the dungeon! Inside the dungeon we were all cautious like! I of course kept my mouth shut being unable to speak quietly; even when thinking of kittens! We made our way through, finding a room with a long dead body and a fireplace! The others were saying how the fireplace was somewhat magical! They messed around with it to no avail!

We moved on, finding nothing of importance really! Until, one of the party heard up ahead the chittering of rats! There was a tight corridor just outside the room they - and a bunch of zombies - were in! We funneled em, me and Von at the front taking the brunt while the others fired arrows at them! And me of course! Silly buggers! We also lit up the corridor, setting 'em on fire! Hahaha! After we'd killed most of 'em, the remaining few rats fled! We ran in after 'em, but they'd gotten into their holes! We filled the holes with wood so they couldn't come back in, and set about looting the room! I found a glowing blue dagger! I like it! Bob'll like it I hope! If not, Meg'll!

Anyway, after that, we burned the bodies of the Iron Fist that had been zombie-fied, after taking off their armour and covering it in holy water to get rid of the curse thingy I guess! We brought back the armour to the Iron Fist camp and told ''em what had happened! Our job done, we set sail back to Maladon! Everyone still intact! For once!

Hahahahaha! Job's a goodun!

Journal Entry 457

I finally ended up in Haven, but this place is even more of a shithole than the locals described it as. The whole place smells of shit, and fish as the residents seem to say over and over to no end. Someone should make a perfume out of the stench! The only thing that would keep it from being a best seller is the fact that everyone here seems to smell like that already. Hell maybe the perfume already exists, and the fuckers just put it on after they bathe. No, that would be giving them too much credit. A bath is something new to these monkeys.

Anyways after arriving here I made my way to one of their so called companies named after a badger. Honestly it seemed like they didn't really give a shit, but I don't think I should have been expecting anything more from a group named after a badger. I got pointed towards some work for a man named Beldak, but that turned into a major fucking shit show. I hope I never end up working for this bastard again. Where the hell do I even start with that? Oh god the whole thing was just a total mess.

So he hires me, a few cowards, and a couple of other people to do this work for him. I immediately knew the standards were low when I saw the tiefling's greedy little horns perk up, and pretty much right from there things started going downhill. Apparently we were supposed to be doing scouting work to find out if these fucking islanders were worshiping some cultist demon god. Well guess what they were. I'm not sure why we even needed to scout. They all had tattoos, and a look on their faces like they would be willing to burn little girls at the stake. What a bunch of freaks.

Well anyways so before we leave this Beldak fellow makes it clear we all need to have our weapons smuggled. So I reluctantly hand over Shiroi Kiba, and my tetsubo. I fucking regret that. The fucker doesn't even really fill us in on anything else before we go. So we're supposed to be hunting for information without really even knowing what we were looking for. Great fucking plan friend. One after another we head out in these rags to board this ship named the narwhal. I guess in Haven it's not enough to smell like shit, you also have to dress up as it too.

So I put on my disguise, but of course I still don't look enough like a morning crap for these fellows. One of the men started heckling me so I immediately go over, and hold him up by the neck of the shirt. Somehow that seemed to earn their respect, and I get on this awful smelling boat with these awful smelling foreigners. Not much to say about the rest of the trip there. We met two fellows named Savagé, and Grint. More on the first fellow later, but the Grint guy was just another turd impersonator so forget his name.

So we get to this island, and of course it's jack all small. Nothing but a bunch of Grade A psycho paths, and their sheep. There are these two dead whales on the shore, and this fellow named Gabros starts chalking at us to hack the thing up. So I get to hacking, and burn myself tired. We finish up for the day, and then head out to the nearby inn after taking a bath. Though to be honest I'm the only one who didn't smell like shit afterwards. I don't think they understand the meaning of the word bath.

So we get into the inn, and of course our company is just a bunch more cunts. A couple of fellows speaking behind my back in a language I don't understand. Never heard of that one before you spider faced fucks. I would have punched their lights out while telling them to run back home to their wives, but I knew none of them had any so I took a bit of pity by deciding not to. Before long I was chatting them up, and playing an odd game with this old fart named Hork.

Hard to really describe the game. It was some foreigner make up the rules as you go along shit. The old man's chaps got a laugh out of seeing me lose, but on the third game the graybeard pulled out a new piece for me to use. I'm not really sure what happened with it, but I got the feeling it had some sort of magic on it. I don't know why he thought cheating would make a difference, after all I figured I'd lose again even if he didn't cheat. Somehow though I won, and the cheating cunt started crying before leaving the building. I found out later his friends went to ring his neck in for losing to the a foreigner. Stupid cunt shouldn't have cheated, and lost to a total beginner.

So anyways we head back to the camp, and I start setting up my tent. Before I know the rest of my "group" are calling out for me. The men at the camp were drugged, and the fucking locals were sending their dogs after us. I've heard of sore losers, but these guys take that shit way too fucking seriously. The worst part was our weapons weren't even properly smuggled. Beldak was supposed to meet up with our contact, and the fucker just got drunk then left for camp with the rest of us. So I just pick up this nearby oar expecting to kill everyone in the goddamn village.

Their mutts start coming at us next, and my god I found out about the stupidity of some of these Haven folk. The first dog runs straight up to us, and I tell the tiefling bastard to flank. The asshole cowers behind me in fear so I just use the oar to butt the dog between the two of us. After that I start whacking away at the damn things. Of course all the locals are cowards, and before long they're shooting us from over the cliff face. I take cover once I finish killing all the dogs, and the fucking dwarf throws a dagger into my priceless lantern. The fucker doesn't even know the value of good Bokkan craftsmanship.

So there I am waiting in the woods for these crossbow bitches to come out of hiding, and next thing I know Savagé comes out of the water with a fucking giant green tiger in his hands. I don't know what to think at first, but as all the locals run away, and I'm almost positive it's got to be some divine intervention shit. A white tiger is my family crest after all, and this was something pretty damn amazing. Unfortunately like everything else the whole event ended up being a huge fucking disappointment.

Savagé was just some lumbering myst walking idiot who loved cats. Here I was ready to chase down, and kill every one of these bastards who tried to kill me, but this damn mock of a god just restores their dogs to life, restores the damn whale to life, and then tells us to leave. I fucking told him I was going to hunt down every last one of these people, but the goddamned dwarf tells the goddamned giant to bring me along. Next thing I know I'm sitting in this boat listening to how this creature can traverse the mysts.

I don't know what else to do about everything. I asked the creature if he had a way that I could travel the mysts, but of course he didn't seem to understand. I gave him some of my blood in an empty water flask hoping he will be able to track me down if something changes. I don't have my hopes very high. So there we were in the middle of butt fucking nowhere, and I still don't have my goddamn sword, or tetsubo back. Luckily this Raven fellow shows up, and gets us onto an escape vessel Beldak had prepared. Kinda wish he had told us about that sooner, the fucker.

So here I am back, and waiting to get Shiroi Kiba back. If Beldak doesn't get it back to me I'm going to kill him, and every other fucker responsible. Regardless I think I'm going to go back to that island and teach them a thing or two about paying the iron price. Especially that old fuck. I would say it will be a good lesson on how not to take a board game so seriously, but I don't think dead people can remember anything. That's it for now. I'm going to go take a bath, and get these rags off so I can go back to not looking like a member of Haven's turd soup.

All PCs are invited to join the Circle; a loose secret organisation  operating in Haven and the Empire who protect the ancient places and attempt to reduce or redirect Imperial aggression.  Those who refuse to join are instead sworn to silence on an Oath Stone. Any who refuse to swear either oaths are let go; it is clear that the Circle will protect those who swear from retribution by the Sea Tiger's followers but not those who will not swear one of these oaths.

Dear Linny,

After the battle with the Ankheg's (those burrowy creatures) we continued north, guided by Colodus. We came across a room filled with stalactites (the ones on top, not on the floor), which we kept our eyes on, as we knew of creatures that disguised themselves as such things. While we were checking our corners and looking down the two potential paths ahead; three stalactites came down, aiming for Desna, Archer and Seeker. As they landed, the entire room was cast into magical darkness. Luckily I could still vaguely see the difference between the aura of a friend and a foe, and could still help. Not after long however, Colodus marched into the center of the room and vanquished the darkness from the room, revealing Archer and Seeker struggling to get stalactites off the heads. Then two more stalactites fell, luckily missing their mark. After much panicking, shouting and slashing we slew the creatures, finally allowing us to move on. Colodus told us which path was the right one. We decided to block the other path with the bodies of the creatures we had just slew, making sure that if something came through, the stalactites would fall and make a lot of noise, alarming us of their presence. Don't want to be surprised. Again.

Up ahead, again, were two diverging paths; we again, went north. Further ahead, again, were two paths, with us going north. We came into a room with a dead body in the middle of it. Archer and Seeker went to inspect the body, try and get clues as to what happened. When suddenly, from under them a net sprung upwards, capturing them both and the body. Seeker got out his dagger and started cutting the net. They were twenty feet high, and they fell after the net was cut open. I extended my vines and caught both of them, just before Archer would've smacked his face against the ground. Above, we spotted a gap in the ceiling, with sunlight coming through a loose stone. Seeker had cut the net at two of the four ropes at the top, making a ladder of sorts to the loose stone. I climbed up and used my vines to lift the stone a bit more, so I could see properly what was above us.

Above us was a massive courtyard. To the north; a giant statue of an elephant. To the east; I saw a bunch of Knolls. To the south; all I could see was a giant wall. As I was looking to the west; I saw a big bird - with a creature I couldn't make out riding it - land on a fane. The others had discovered that the body was one of the Knights of Calenn, whom Colodus was one of. I came down and told the party of what I saw, and we discussed whether or not we should head east to try and find the Knolls, as we suspected they had captured other members of the Knights of Calenn. Colodus said, with sadness in his voice, that we should continue with the task at hand, and maybe head towards the Knolls on our way out.

We continued northward, coming across a run down temple. While we were investigating; a niche in the wall opened, and out stepped what appeared to be a Knight of Calenn. The three of us in the room spoke with him for a while, until Colodus came in, and recognised him as the Knight who had been felled and used as the bait in the trap Seeker and Archer had been caught in earlier. We swiftly took him down, with whatever the creature really was, fading away after it had fallen. From ahead, we heard loud stomping and the exhaling of what sounded like a bull. 'Minotaur' the party quickly and quietly concluded. We ran into the secret passage where the phony knight had come from, and closed the door behind us. Escaping just before the Minotaur came in. Hopefully, it doesn't know we're here.

We discovered once the door closed, that we were in the midst of a shrine to the elephant god of feasting and plenty; Nastari. After a bit of investigating the shrine, we all heard a voice in our heads, of one that claimed to be Nastari. He asked us if it was time for him to awake from his sleep. We told him it wasn't, which made him a bit upset. But he was nice, he allowed us to feast from the Horn of Plenty, which, every time food was taken from it, more food appeared in its place. He also gave us sanctuary, allowing us to recover, and prepare for the dangers that lied ahead.

So, yeah, it's going well. Remember to give Emerald apples, or he'll stop liking you.

Love, Ffiona xx

Dear Linny,

We left the shrine of Nastari, with Seeker insisting he'd return for the Horn of Plenty on the way out. The direction ahead was covered in darkness, so the one's who could see in the dark were sent forth. During their investigating, Archer discovered a room filled with numerous bodies hanging from the ceiling. He didn't inspect any further.

While they were investigating I took point at the back. In the distance, I heard what sounded like the fish-frog people from earlier. I told everyone to hide. Then, 14 of the fish-frog people, who I believe are called Bullywugs came into view. Me, Colodus and Trarbon hid just around the corner from them, while the rest were further along hiding in what turned out to be a labyrinth. Just as the Bullywugs were about to come around the corner, I called out 'friendly?' hoping they were the same one's from earlier. They weren't, and they quickly had us three surrounded. The leader approached us. We tried talking him into letting us go, but he wasn't having it. At that point in the distance, we heard what sounded like the Minotaur's footsteps, which I could tell was someone's sword bashing against stone (This turned out to be Seeker). This caused the Bullywugs to worry, but they carried on hounding us until they heard a bull-like roar (this was Desna who had transformed into a Bull), to which the Bullywugs fled.

Unfortunately, after they fled, a bell rung throughout the corridors, which was clearly a dinner bell for the Minotaur that the Bullywugs rang on their way out. Me, Colodus and Trarbon rejoined with the others, then looked behind us to see a large Minotaur. It looked too big to fit into the corridor we were in, and so we planned to attack, but then the Minotaur drank something, and shrunk to about 6ft; small enough to get through the corridor. Panicked, the party ran into the labyrinth, me and Seeker staying behind to take on the Minotaur. We both shot at him, but when the Minotaur reached Seeker, the Minotaur took him down in merely one massive blow. Luckily, Colodus came back out of the labyrinth and healed Seeker, then drew the attention of the Minotaur, allowing us to focus each of our shots, dealing large amounts of damage.

Meanwhile in the labyrinth, Desna and Umbala, in their panic, ran into a small room where a immovable stone door came down behind them. There were a few clicking sounds, and then the room began filling up with water. Archer and Trarbon only just managed to open the door again before they both drowned.

Me, Seeker and Colodus had weakened the Minotaur to the point where he looked like he were about to fall, but just as were about to take him down, the Minotaur fled to the room where Archer found all the bodies hanging from the ceiling. Seeker, faster than the rest of us, pursued him to right outside the room, but as he approached, a stone door in front and behind him lowered, he almost got out before the stone had reached the ground, but he misjudged his roll, and wound up trapped, separated from the party. He told us he could hear the Minotaur eating, to which Colodus informed us he was gathering his strength and we must flee. I tried lifting the stone to no avail, we tried looking for any way to open it, but we couldn't find any. At this point, I thought we had lost our companion, but I knew we had to move on, or we'd be risking more of us being lost. I told him to 'hunt well' but under my breath, I wished him to 'rest well.'

Desna and Umbala at this point were only just getting out of the trap room where they nearly drowned, and were about to join up with us, when they stumbled into a Grell; one of those floating brains with beaks, that a group of paralyzed me while I was in Morindeep, if you remember me telling you.

I heard a scream from one of my companions and ran down to where they were. By the time I had got there, the Grell had knocked Umbala out, grabbed him, and was fleeing. Clearly it just wanted food. Desna managed to rescue Umbala from the clutches of the Grell and ran back with him, with the Grell in pursuit. When the Grell came into view, we finished it off with a barrage of blows and arrows. I guess they're not so bad when there's only one of them.

After we had slew the Grell, I turned around and noticed that Seeker was there. It turned out that Colodus had continued to try and get through the stone door, and had managed to open it. I breathed a heavy sigh of relief, and felt guilt over leaving him behind. Seeker seemed to understand, though, not that that relives the guilt in any way. Needless to say, I'm very thankful that Colodus is here with us.

Hunting and resting may be just as peaceful as the other, but what can I say, I prefer hunting with friends.

I forgot to mention. Green apples, my love. Green apples.

Again the allure of uncertainty and danger led me to join an adventuring party. This time to the newly discovered underground region of Makra. The Horses were looking for people to look into some strange occurences happening there and who better to send as lambs to the slaughter than a few young Sashes and their accomplices. We were informed to bring plenty to drink as the region was uncomfortably warm. Not only did we require many a water skin per day but what we brought with us would evaporate at a fast pace. We left Haven for the portal on the 34th of Plenth. Upon arriving we identified ourselves as the ones hired for the job with items provided to us by the Horses and headed swiftly through the stone gateway. The trip felt surprisingly chilling considering the end point. In the blink of an eye we found ourselves in an ragged rock cave where a camp had been established for the purposes of the expedition. The inlet the tents had been set up in looked over a lake of molten rock which radiated heat with great intensity. In the camp we met a woman from the Horses who asked of our intentions to which we replied ogre hunting. The job that we had taken on wasn't only about hunting them down but finding about their unusually intelligent behavior; however the party we had assembled wasn't exactly cut out for that sort of missions. She looked us over with her dweomer for any magical items so not to mistake something we were carrying to be something found in the cave system. Little more instructions could be given to us as the cave the camp was in only had one exit and the caverns ahead were uncharted territory. Fletcher's navigation skills proved invaluable in making any way in the odd environment. At every point the way split into more than one direction Lux made a marking on the wall to let us trace our steps back with minimum effort. The first day progressed without incident of any kind. Locating a suitable spot to hunker down to rest to rest took longer than expected but eventually our ranger managed to find a decent hollow for the purpose. During the first night, if it such concepts exist in this sunless world, I heard strange noises coming from the caverns just outside of our hidey-hole but luckily whatever was making them passed by without noticing us. The creatures obviously flew as they triggered none of our tripwires. Early the next day Fletcher spotted, and we followed, tracks which obviously belonged to ogres. They lead to a round room like cave next to a current of lava. In the room were many skeletons of animals and humanoids alike, the freshest one around four days old. Multitude of marks suggested the ogres were using the place regularly so we deemed it a sensible idea to set up an ambush there. It took a day for the occupants to return. A combat we had hoped to be the ones initiating began with a couple of accurate javelin throws aimed at our dragonborn companion. Clearly we had underestimated out opponents ability to perceive us. Kaar's blood wasn't spilled for nothing however as our other companions soon fell upon the ugly bastards. In mere moments we cut them down and captured the last one left. Closer inspections revealed two of our opponents to have been half-ogres instead of full blooded ones and the one we had chained up was a bugbear. The three had left two squirming bags behind as soon as they had noticed us, two bags from which we found a pair of bound dark skinned gnomes. Although we shared no common tongue I managed to convince them that we meant no harm to them. We thought ourselves lucky when Lux mentioned that she knew Giant and so could interrogate the captive bugbear. That optimism was short lived as the creature soon after died to an obviously magical effect. Only information we got our of him was that there were more of their kind and they already knew of us. As we hauled the corpses together Lux spotted a most unnerving sight on one of the armor pieces of the bugbear, a living eye. It shut as soon as we noticed it but left us with an eerie feeling that we should get on our way, fast. If anyone had any doubts about it before now we were sure someone or something with powerful magic was connected to the ogres and likely the cause of their smart behavior. After being untied the gnomes offered me a gem, a show of gratitude I suppose and quickly fled to the tunnels. Yuuki cut off the heads of our slain enemies as proof and Kaar some limbs to cook over the lava. I must wonder how he can stomach the taste of such foul meat. With rapid pace we made the trek back to the main camp encountering no other creatures on the way. I gave the gem to the lady we'd met before and after brief conversation about what had transpired we returned to Maladon through the portal.

Dear Linny,

I'm not a happy bunny.

After our battle with the Minotaur and Grell, we decided to go back to the Shrine of Nastari so we could rest. While resting, Seeker and Trarbon, who were taking turns keeping watch, heard a commotion outside the door, involving some Bullywugs. Seeker sent Trarbon to wake me, then opened the door. In front of him were three Bullywugs with spears fending off something, which turned out to be those creatures disguised as stalactites. Down the corridor were several more Bullywugs. Seeker beckoned the Bullywugs to come in and shelter from what they were fighting. The Bullywugs decided they would take shelter... For themselves, and attacked.

As I awoke, I heard Seeker's crossbows being fired. Now alert, I quickly woke Desna and Archer... By kicking them in the face, and we all joined the fray. Seeker after being struck many times, retreated behind Trarbon, who remained up front, bearing the brunt. With it being a narrow corridor, wide enough only for one of us, we decided to funnel them in, so there was less to deal with at a time. Trarbon lasted a while, with the rest of us firing at them from behind him, but he took one too many blows and fell. Thankfully he awoke almost immediately, and retreated behind me. On his way past he gave me his shield, which I used to dodge all the attacks from the Bullywugs. One of them grabbed hold of me, but before he could drag me out, he was shot by one of my companions. I continued to bear the brunt of the attacks until there were only four left. The Bullywugs looked at their fallen, then at each other, and ran. Unfortunately for them, as they ran, three of them were attacked by those stalactites, with only one of them, and another that hadn't joined the fight, escaping. We went back into the shrine to finish our resting.

After finishing our rest, we came out, and noticed that the room just outside the shrine had significantly less dust than before. Desna and Seeker discovered remnants of acid on the floor, which reminded me of a gelatinous cube I'd encountered before. Though it was clear this cube was more powerful. We moved forward, but it wasn't long before we came across the cube. Unfortunately, we came across the cube by Umbala walking into it. The cube absorbed Umbala, dissolving him into nothingness right in front of us. Enraged, we destroyed the cube quickly. Rest well, Umbala.

We wished to move through a stone door to the east, which we believed was the way forward. We investigated the area nearby, leading us to the room in which the Minotaur ate. In the corner, we found five levers, the fourth lever from the left having a large, bloody hand print on it. Seeker pulled the lever with the blood on it, which closed the door to the room with the levers. He then opened the room again, and tried another lever. This time, the second from the left. This lever did open the door we wanted open. Behind the door was a room which, behind the corner, was a fireplace. Just before the room was a corridor that led to a staircase going up. We saw a shadow of a large creature inside the room. Desna looked around the corner and saw a Minotaur. The Minotaur called out to her, "come in little Elf."

Desna, Archer and myself walked in, staying at the far side of the room, away from the Minotaur. The Minotaur tried beckoning us toward him with what was clearly some kind of charm. Luckily the other two didn't fall for it. The Minotaur threw a bag of gold on the floor and told us it was for a job well done for chasing away many creatures. I saw a dweomer on the gold, and told the others not to take it. I told the Minotaur of this other Minotaur I'd met in Morindeep, that turned out to be a cursed highman, and asked the Minotaur who he was. The Minotaur told us his name; Tyras. He confessed to be a cursed man as well, and that he was cursed by the bull god to guard this fane from intruders. Given his apparent hospitality (he offered us food as well, which I advised the party not to eat) we asked why he had attacked us, but wasn't now. Tyras said that it was his brother that had attacked us, and at that point, I noticed he was wearing different clothes, and didn't appear to have the wounds from our previous encounter. From what I can tell, I think he was truthful, at least in that moment. Tyras offered us some gold again, opening up a door, showcasing what must of been hundreds of thousands of gold pieces. My mind thinking of the coin from Skarn's horde; I looked to see if there was anything with a similar thread, though luckily there didn't appear to be any, though the coins were all covered in the same dweomer as the bag. I told Tyras we'd have to refuse, and apologized for our caution. He seemed to understand.

We went back to get the others, but Seeker was further back, still investigating. I told him to come with us, hoping he wouldn't find out about Tyras, knowing he had an extremely keen interest in gold. Unfortunately as we came out, we saw that Tyras was standing in the entry of the door. Seeker was ready to fire his bolts at him, but we managed to calm him down and convince him this wasn't the Minotaur that attacked us earlier. Tyras offered a bag of gold to Seeker, which Seeker was interested in. Seeker said to Tyras, "No one gives gold for nothing in return. What do you want?" The Minotaur told Seeker the gold he was offering was from his brother's horde, which if taken away from this place, would make his brother and the Bull god weaker, as the gold was tied to his brother. Tyras said he too had a horde that he too was linked to. Tyras said he wanted out, and couldn't unless the bull god was weakened. I told Seeker not to take his offer, and that if he did, he was not welcome in the party anymore. He went to the gold, and picked up the bags. Without saying another word to him, I dragged everyone off, leaving him behind. We headed towards the stairs asking Colodus if this was the right way. He said "Yes, directly above us!"

What Seeker just did made me angry. I've seen what gold touched by magic can do to a man, and the people with them. If even Tarville can lose himself to temptation, what could become of Seeker. Mundane gold itself destroys many a man, but that I can endure, that is what it is. What I won't endure is a man caring only for himself, and risking the people he's with because of it. We have no idea the nature of the dweomer on that gold. I will not allow his stupidity and greed to endanger our party. I'll keep his arrow lit for now, so he can see on his way out. I'm not that mad at him...

Don't worry, I'll calm down now he's gone. Hopefully, this'll soon be over. I need to get back to the flora and fauna, and... just relax for a while.

Hope you and Emerald are doing well.

It is the 19th of Plenth we had come for the tournament but wanted to meet up with our dear friend Raven and so went to the checkpoint to meet him. After having a chat with the border clerk who was asking us for passports as usual Raven arrived and let us through unhindered.

Raven told us of a problem with two members of the island were lost after trying to scout a cave on the west side of the river. We then went to scout out the area and found a strange sight of crabs holding swords and needed to get across the river so we headed south and went to the boats to get across. Raven reported to the islanders of the situation and we headed off to scout it some more.

I had used my familiar Soris to Scout ahead in various forms one as a crab and one as a bat gathering that the two who were missing were safe and the crabs who had them were somewhat sentient. We approached them and Vedinia used her ability to speak with animals to learn of them and to see if they were friendly. We made peace with them and things went fairly smoothly for what I was expecting. It seems we have strange new friends on the island but are asked to leave them alone.

So I was hanging out in the tipsy mermaid, checkin in on my homie Adolpho and askin him for a flask of skullbuster. I planned to go on a mission to this new place that turned up in the mysts, yo, Borian Island. This thing is run by the Iron Fisters.
Well anyway, I was sittin in the bar and then there was a new guy in the bar, a fresh meat, that planned on joining the sashes. I immediately made him do the skullbuster challenge and he actually chucked it. Proud of having found a new qualified drinking buddy I invited that newcomer to join me on a mission to that new place. I also had a friend of mine, Ira, that was going to come and then send word to the other companies. In the end we had found Horcus, Sabaufein, Fresh meat and Ira and me going on the boat. Fresh meat was trying to play some dice but was not doing to well and was apparently not using the right dice. We settled the situation by playin some songs and skull buster and eventually made it to the island.
I saw a familiar face when we left the boat, Boris, the everlasting joy of everyone that loves to eat proper food on missions. Boris immediately took a liking to fresh meat and we then went to the camp to meet the commander, Ruth. He told us about the two major concerns he was sharing, a temple that people entered but only ever one person left (per each group that entered) and that person turned out to have lost its mind. The other thing was about a group of followers of a cult and a guy having a strange magical tattoo on his shoulder in the shape of a snake.
He pointed us to a tent that contained the person that emerged form the temple and also the guy with the snake tattoo. We talked to both of them, though the fists in their wisdom had decided to cut out the tongues of these people. Luckily some of us were able to still make communication possible and so we learned that whatever is in the temple, it erased the memories of what happens in their from the victims. Also I noticed that the other guy in there was carrying the tattoo of a serpent and was not very willing to communicate. Though he was still sane, whereas the other person was having two voices in his head. They were talking independently, though after Sabaufein casted some magic on them they were aligned and after Ira used some of her magic the second voice just vanished.
We did not get to know that much from the interrogation and eventually decided to head out to where the temple is supposed to be. To be honest I think we also kind of annoyed the good commander, though it was to our enjoyment. Anyway, we arrived after a day of journey and Ira proofed her worth as a hunter and shot three deers. In the meantime Boris was joining Fresh Meat on his way to the river, since he had forgotten to fill up his waterskin and though the booze Boris carried with himself was a great help in keeping our gorges oiled.
While we were sleeping outside at some point Horcus’ bird woke us up talking about some people outside. They claimed to just wanting to talk though MrMocsi immediately saw through their facade and convinced me that they were lying to us. Ira and Horcus though went already on them and had attacked them before I could do anything. We knocked the two guys out and then gagged them up to start interrogation the next day. We secured their spell books, those two were obviously mages. Val’ra and Sha’tra, Val’ra was nice and cooperative and informed us about various things regarding the island.
Val’ra told us that there are different groups on this island, followers of the fire lord, that follower fire elementals, there are the followers of water elementals and the followers of void elementals. The temple that we were sent to was according to Val’ra a temple of void elementals.
When we tried to interrogate the other one, Sha’tra, he proofed to be less cooperative. We asked him questions and I tried to read what was going on with him, he started to set himself ablaze. We still found ought though that the person in the camp is a spy of the fire lord. There might be more spies but we were not able to discover them, when we returned to the camp.
Anyway, after the interrogation and after this guy set himself ablaze, we decided to enter that temple. The front of the temple was guarded by strong magic that made Sabaufein and Boris almost turn, we had to convince them that there is a need for them to go with us, that we needed their help though they insisted that there was nothing to see in the temple.
The temple appeared to be empty at the beginning and we slowly moved forward. Eventaully we saw a big sphere of magical energy of conjuration and evocation. I passed it to see whether it would react to me. Nothing happened, at first, but then, it started moving. Our fighters moved into position and started beating at that thing which eventually started to corrode its wait through the ceiling, trying to escape. It also tried to corrode some of the weapons and I think Boris hurt his hand to some extend when he hit the orb with his plain hand. We all were firing at the orb and hitting it. The orb ascended and Ira put a bolt of her crossbow into it and we saw the orb stopped ascending and stopped glowing and then we realized it would be crashing down. We ran for cover and avoided being smashed by the things.
Not wanting to encounter another of these things and potentially not making it out of the temple we decided to leave, also we realized that we had actually completed what we were asked to do by Captain Ruth. We returned to the camp and reported our findings to him and left Val’ra with him under the condition that he won’t cut out the tongue of this person.
We returned to the ship and made our way back to Haven and I presented the findings to the White Horse. Right after returning Fresh Meat to Adolfo and the blue sashes.

Session 59: Journey into Darkness

Present:
Amalina Meliamne (1st level Elf Warlock)

Grimm the Sorceror (1st level Dwarf Sorceror)
Ironside (1st level Elf Fighter)
Tistae Afrupe (1st Level human Cleric)
Ashton Nackle (1st level Human Monk)

Weary after spending weeks travelling, the party arrived at a run-down tavern in the village of Fellford in the Realm of Netherfell; a ragged petty kingdom almost completely swallowed by the Mysts. There they speak to the bar-keep Leofric and ask for work. Grimm swaps shoes with the barkeep, who seems very pleased with his end of the bargain. Leofric takes them into a back room and tells them that the Lord of Fellford's son foolishly travelled to a place called Morrendeep as part of a coming of age rite, and had disappeared. The lord was apparently offering 100 gp for any who would go to this ancient Dwarren hold and investigate. 20 gp was paid to each party member as a surety. The party eagerly agreed and then bought supplies.

They found a temple to a local petty god called Lammara and visit the temple. The priest seems half crazed but Grimm swaps cloaks with him; the one Grimm gets smells strongly of sheep. They also buy a 'healing potion' from the priest; though all are suspicious of it. However, later tests prove that it is indeed a potion.

Leofric lends the party horses and a guide; a one eyed and taciturn man called Odo. He guided them around the mountains and through a valley guarded by Combe Castle, avoiding mounted patrols on the other side of the river. When asked, Odo reminded the company that Netherfell is 'a patchwork of petty village-realms that each surround a castle. The Lords of these castles vie with each other and hate their rivals fiercely.'
The company soon entered a broken land of windswept hill bare of any trees save the occasional lonely skeletal birch; and all of those were blackened and burned. '.....cos of the Dragon....in Morrendeep; though 'ee ain't been seen in more 'an thirty year'.

Odo took the horses to a bothy hidden in a hillside and bade the party meet him back there; though it was plain he expected them not to return.
The party climbed an old way up Dragon Pike towards Morrendeep and there met Ronsard; a man-at-arms in service with an Alchemist called Cassandra. He asked their aid; for archers hazarded his return to Casandra's enclave. The party warily agreed and clambered into a stone boat and entered an ancient water lock that took them deep into the mountainside; for the Dwarren were once masters of both stone and water and loved boats. Thus were all their holds flooded caverns and chambers and Morrendeep was no different.

When the lock gate opened, Ronsard explained that some creatures had taken up residence in a hidden guard room that overlooked the chamber ahead and would fire at the party as they left the lock. After a brief debate on tactics the party left the lock and found themselves in a huge flooded chamber dominated by two Dwarren statues at least 50 feet high. As soon as they emerged, creatures assailed them from the right with bows; and said monsters were indeed hidden in a secret guard room, behind cunning embrasures and arrow slits. Many of the party were struck; though none fatally. The company retreated as quickly as they could manage; though many bore scars.

They made it to an enclave protected by solid doors. There they encountered Cassandra who haughtily dismissed most of them but who also told the party that the Lord of Fellford's son had indeed been this way; but had doubtless by now been eaten by Muutaarka the Minotaur.
As the Company healed and digested this news they were filled with new purpose and Ironside suggested they destroy the skeletons in the guardroom using tower shields. His plan was put into action and the skeletons were dispatched, though not ere Grimm the dwarf was severely wounded.

Just as the battle ended, the company espied an man on a bridge across the lake; he was calling for help. Grimm and the others jumped into the boat but were wary of a giant frog they had seen earlier. This was wise for the frog emerged from under the boat and attacked; dragging Grimm into it's belly with its huge and muscular tongue. The dwarf was alas slain but the party took revenge and slaughtered the creature in recompense, rescuing the man soon after. This was not without incident as the man was on a bridge ten feet up when Ashton kicked him into the boat; spilling Lara into the water as it nearly broached. Fortunately, nothing stirred in the depths of the lake and the party returned to safety and satisfied themselves that the man they had rescued was indeed Lord Fellford's son Aelfric.

They emerged from Morrendeep and were just congratulating themselves on a job well done as they approached the cave with the horses where Odo waited. Then, suddenly, Aelfric Fellford was shot and killed. Crossbowmen surrounded the party and they learned that Leofric of Fellford was an agent of Lord Seagarth; a rival of Fellford, who had a blood feud with the latter lord and it was they who had hired the party. Yet the company was allowed to live and instead shipped to Maladon to ensure their silence; before daybreak, they were chained in the hold of a stinking boat and sailing across the sea towards the Myst tide; Grimm's body was dumped overboard. After a month's sickening voyage, they came at last to Haven Isle; and the real beginning of their adventures.

440 XP to each party member for surviving this fell trip.

Book of Grudges

Dear Book,

I just arrived recently at this place after being trapped on this floating box and arriving in that city. So while basically still on the dock I was tolled about a job to be done. Well, I had only 2 gold left, so I thought I better get cracking and was introduced to other people interested in the job.
We went to an island and when we got off we made our way to the encampment. Instead of making a clear request, my fellow adventurers already were not cohesive and especially the half-elf girl struck me as a trouble maker. The captain eventually explained to us that the tavern is haunted at night and people disappear if they go there. After some of the knuckleheads debated whether we should go all the way to the ruins or just go to the tavern that is 20 minutes away, we finally could agree that going 20 minutes to check out a place might be a better idea.
When we arrived at the place we got an eerie feeling, A clock started ringing its bell as soon as we arrived. I instantly knew something was not alright about the place but since it was daytime there was no better opportunity to explore the place than now. We looked around and found stairs in a very bad condition and our smart tin can empire solider boy Kelteris thought it would be a good idea to try to jump up he stairs in full armor and gear having dangling at least 200 pounds of extra weight from his massive dragon born body. He jumped and obviously crashed down. Similar try of Tek…
When I had seen enough of that I asked my familiar to bring he rope up and wrap it around a timber and we pulled up the half elf who put a piton in the wall that was actually stable enough for me to pull myself up. Well I have to hold well for her that the thing did not rip out when we got up though stonework was obviously not her expertise. Everyone followed up and even the dragonborn eventually grumbled up.
Since there was dried blood on this floor I started casting a spell that would let me perceive any other arcana around. Obviously noone of these people had heard of patience is a virtue and started running around like geese, touching this, jumping there, almost falling around and eventually one of them touched a doll that they found in a crate, got scared as shit and wanted to run away and get us to run away. Well, at least that is what I thought first, turned out since that greenbrain Tek had touched the doll and got possessed by some sort of ghost. The clock rang again.
The doll came to life when Ashton then tried to burn it and instead of luring it over to us he started trying to act all hero like and to shove it around. We took care of the doll and it exploded in a splash of blood. In the box were also some newspapers about children gone missing a long time ago. We thought we had dealt with the issue when Tek tried to shove Kelteris into the hole infront of him. Tek apparently not being the strongest and Kelteris not being the smartest, the dragonborn did not even notice and just walked off, the he tried to shove Ashton into the hole and Amalina called out what I suspected was the case, Tek got possessed by the doll he touched, and started whispering some spell. That is when I fell asleep.
The troublemaking half-elf wakes me up from the sleep spell that she must have cast and I see that both Tek and Ashton are lying bleeding on the floor, the dragonborn Kelteris tanding next to Tek who has one of his javelins sticking out of him. Luckily we managed to stabilize them though the one guy got half his nose ripped off whereas the other one seemed to have suffered from internal injuries. Apparently he had inhaled some of the acid the drake had breathed on him and that had started eating away on the floor. I mean, obviously it was an excellent idea to breath acid on a almost rotten wooden floor since that will for sure not increase the chance of it collapsing and giving way under our feat.
He then fell through the floor, rightfully so I might say, and rushed off. Not saying anything, not saying a damn word and so we tried to catch up. The bastard had a horse though and so by the time we arrived he was already talking to the captain, claiming we had fulfilled the job and demanding payment. Ashton started hitting him and I thought that either both of them were morons or perhaps possessed…
So I asked the captain whether he had a cleric that could check in on them and after he had a look at everyone he concluded that none of us were possessed. The captain thankfully in the meantime had the two gagged and tied up. I got myself some ale and decided it would be best to sleep.
But I was just asleep for like 2 hours when that Kelteris shook me awake, going on about the magic having gone stronger and wanting to check out the tavern again. I told him what the captain had mentioned: “go there after dark and you will suffer, idiot”. I swear that were the captains exact words… Well eventually we went, collecting the others on the way. We arrived and were greeted by the ringing of the clock’s bell. Yes the aura had gotten stronger and I send my familiar inside and it disappeared. That was enough of a sign for me to tell the others that the idea was stupid, that we should wait for sunlight and then look again for clues.
But obviously that didn’t happen, because Ashton that dim light fell asleep infront of that tavern and Amalina decided to stay with him to keep watch on him. We went back and then the others apparently eventually realized that the two that stayed back did not follow us, even an hour later. So again, woken up by one of the knuckleheads, this time Tek, I made my way over there. At least after giving the guy a decent headbutt…
We made it back there and the only member of our party that I could see, and most likely the smartest, was Kelteris’ horse. Again the clock greeted us. The tavern looked even more eerie and since I feared it might be my last act I attached a note on the horse, so that the captain might be informed about what happened and what we saw before entering the house. We entered … and the tavern came alive, not like that haunted shed we saw before, or sort of like it, but in a good condition, filled with people. I tried to cast a spell but the guards there stopped me and Kelteris was standing in a corner, calling to me, with him Ashton and Amalina. Tek ran off to the bar where Ashton must have been before, he seemed drunk as a cat. The place was filled with tables and even musicians in one corner and a clock in the other one, the staircases in perfect shape leading up to suits.
We investigated the place and found it to be some sort of magical illusion that had trapped us here and had to do with the missing children. The people regarded everyone as strangers except Tek, who oddly started to blend in with everyone and talk strangely. I guessed at that time that he got possessed again. I told it to Amalina alone sind Ashton was drunk and Kelteris tried to challenge the guards and eventuall got thrown out through the door, the door that early I could not pass or open, while these illusionary people walked right through it. The clock in the corner did not seem to move its hands and the people in this illusion did not seem to notice the passage of time.
We tried to check the room that we found the doll in and a lady that resided in there gave us a description of her missing daughter that matched the puppet we had encountered earlier. She told us more of missing children and that maybe the barkeeper had to do with it. I asked him about a cellar and he claimed it was blocked off. The time passed and we investigated, then the clock rang again the the people started vanishing.
I felt an even stronger sensation from the chronometer and we realized that its position was different from what we had seen in the ruined state of this building. We decided to move it and as we did a gust of wind hit us from behind the bar. We went over and discovered a trap door leading downstairs. Tek still hadn’t snapped out of it, what I found strange since the illusions had seem to disappear. While I was buys trying to get him to snap out of it, Ashton just jumped 30 feet into the dark. Tek finally came to his senses and we climbed down the ladder that was conveniently at the trap door.
We did not need to move ourselves far to see a magic circle of blood on the floor and a summoner handling a child like body. I called the others to attack and started casting a spell onto that strange entity. The area in which this man was standing seemed quite large but the corridor we were in leading to it was small and a pillar in the middle would have made it possible to block anyone trying to overrun us. That was, what I thought, the plan. Ashton thought otherwise. Knackle-head charged into the room, seeing at least 10 of those creepy dolls spread across the room, trying to be all hero like.
Combined we managed to bring this guy with his axe down, but Ashton obviously got immediately surrounded and slaughtered by eerie puppets marching in on him. Also Tek had not even tried to block the access to us and so also Amalina found herself pincered by two of the dolls. I tried to get rid of the one behind her but alas, I did not manage quickly enough, as I saw the puppets tearing apart Ashton. They then started singing something and whatever it was, it drained Ashton’s body that started disappearing while the axe carrying guys body started to heal up.
That was the moment I realized I had to get out of there. Without a proper rest I was too exhausted to perform higher magic that might have helped us and I called the others to retreat. Tek tried to follow but Amalina, well I don’t know what happened to that Half-Elf.
I called to Tek and got no answer when I arrived at the upper end of the ladder and thus closed the hatch behind me, hoping their souls may find peace. That is when I realized something, the clock, the fucking clock was always there, always striking, it must be the source of the illusion and I ran and started hitting it with my hammer as good as I could. After two swings it broke into pieces and I found myself released from the illusion. Tek lying on the floor, but no trace of the other two. I ran to Tek, strapped up his wounds as good as I could. Then I smashed the clock to bits and threw the parts outside and burned them. I dragged Tek back to the camp. He made it. The cleric patched him together and he opened his eyes.
The other ones though… no trace of them, I can not hope for them. I talked to the captain and we decided to stay for the night. They should check if there is a trap door in the ground floor, I told him, should see if there are remains of what we saw. Or they might should just burn down the fricking house.
Dear book, the two people I would hold the biggest grudge against, well the issue with them is somehow solved, unfortunately, but remember the name of Keltris the coward that ran off and was recklessly risking our safety and of Tek the knucklehead that got himself possessed and us almost killed. I hope it will be a lesson to the young lad, I duly hope so.

Tek Valom; Human Fighter lvl 1 (Chris)
Kelteris; Dragonborn Fighter lvl 2 (Ernie)
Udrin Runesmith; Dwarf Wizard lvl 1 (Peter)

Session Notes:
1.)
Try to pay attention to your environment. When you went to explore the inn it was immediately apparent that the building was falling apart. A few players tried climbing up to the second floor anyways in all of their equipment, and fell through the floor. Even after a player fell down the group continued to try to advance in heavy gear. Once you all arrived I noticed a few players were not watching their step, and this almost resulted in another fall. In the future it would be best to use environmental queues to your advantage.

2.) Be aware of time sensitivity. After arriving in the illusionary inn the party spent a large amount of time generally goofing around (getting drunk, bar fights, etc.). This caused the CR of the final encounter to increase as more time passed for the haunt to gather its magic. Additionally when the party finally came across the secret door there was chanting coming from below. Instead of proceeding you all decided to "loot the inn" giving the big bad time to finish his ritual. This significantly increased the difficulty of the encounter. Keep in mind that Maladon is not a video game. Your enemies will not just wait for you.

3.) I will be giving out reduced XP for this session with all things considered. Amalina, and Tek are the exceptions, and will receive normal XP. Ashton will receive 2/3rds, but Kelteris, and Udrin will only receive 1/2.

Session 61: Darkness and a whole lot of rats....

Participants:
Lux (Taleek)
Cain (SlothSlow)
Sabaufein (Niko)
Grigor (Witch Hunter)
Kaar (Thai)
Nyx (Justine)
Kein (Deadpyre)

Hello readers! it's me again Lux! Your friendly friendly ol traveler who always finds herself revisiting temples with scary bullshit in it! I mean how the actual fuck do I keep getting talked into doing these things for these cunts? I swear It's gonna get me in some serious trouble one day…but for now I'll just keep making dumb decisions and getting paid for it. So let's kick off today's story nice and simple apparently I received word of more work while I was drinking one night something about the Fists pissing their pants over some zombies with one mean bite! Can't really blame them though it is a bunch of fucking zombies and apparently it was the same temple where the reports of the zombies we're increasing in number. Last I recall there were some nasty rats with those Zombies…we burned the fuck outta them and got the hell out. Before heading to the docks to potentially meet my band of idiots I made sure to grab some more bottles of oil…it worked last time so why not this time. Anyway I approached the dock and was pleased to see familiar faces but a bit worried to see new ones, Cain was surprisingly there! It's funny I had thought he would rot away and die in that fancy little fort of his that he's been working on…nonetheless he was a paladin and a damn good one at that so I was glad to see him….then there was the Dragon born that would probably eat his own leg if he saw it on a plate Kaar. He was also a Paladin just as usual as Cain but look was hungrier…moving on we had surprise surprise! Another Paladin! Sabaufein..he was more of a mystery to me but he was a paladin and would keep us safe much like the others so like the others it was good to see him. Now let's talk about the newbies…first being the bard! Ah bards put so much heart into their craft…yet this bard didn't seem to have much of that. Kean was his name I believe..he was a bard not much else to say. Next up we had a gnome who went by the name of Nyx she seemed capable much like the other but as per usual fresh meat such as these three were always prone to getting killed very early on. Last but but not least we had an armored up fellow who went by the name of Grigor, he appeared to have a plethora of weaponry but seeing as he literally had no survival gear such as torches or rations I knew he had to be seriously wet behind the ears. So there was my group…honestly I impressed we literally had 3 great paladins yours truly and some fresh meat so I felt pretty good about going to kill a bunch of plague zombies.

So once we were sure we had our gear ready we all hopped aboard the ship greeting the Captain and sailing for the Fey Isles it was a long one and some of our newbies didn’t seem to like the trip most likely not having very much experience on ships...Cain tied himself to the mast of the ship...an interesting way of dealing with things but I didn’t press on the matter. I came to learn that the islands were much more dangerous at night time talks of the magic rising and the creatures becoming more active then so for those traveling there take care to find a safe place for camp and have watches for each hour you never know what could be creeping in the darkness. So we arrived at the Fey Isles and we grab a map and I led the group to the Temple, we had to camp due to our worry about the darkness but thankfully nothing attacked us within the night and we continued onward in the morning to tackle the issue within the temple. Upon reaching the Temple it would had appeared that the entrance was completely cleared of tracks and it looked like whatever had did it had done a bad job at covering it up. I informed the others and recommended caution from then on, we entered the Temple as Sabaufein left some Caltrops back just in case anyone were to try and ambush us...I liked that paladin's thinking. So we traveled down the hall quietly with me expertly looking around for traps or anything threatening I had Sabaufein be my eyes for the darkness for I sadly have terrible human vision that only works in the light...he discovered a ooze and informed us but we also caught wind of something else, the Paladins spoke of the temple being in some sort of dissaray as if tarnished I wondered what but soon found out when disgusting demons with maggots falling from their bodies swooped down to attack. I wont bore you all with the gory details but we kicked their asses and continued marching one to dispose of the madness within the temple. I later came to learn that the demons played a part in covering the tracks of the temple I don't exactly know the motive but who cares the reason I'm even writing this is because we came and kicked the living shit out of everything there and lived to talk about it. Anyway we continued our marching order with me bravely leading the party as look out (sort of) I found most of the rooms that me and my previous party had already discovered and cleared so I didn't bother going through there I just had the paladins do their weird sense thing for demonic evil shit...it wasn't very useful though because the entire area was kind of full of demon bad energy so we just remained silent and careful and dived deeper into the dungeon to rid the temple of the bad shit and get the fuck out. At one point we found two zombies they were much different from the last ones I've met they seemed more.....feral and faster, though that didn't stop us from killing the bastards. As we got rid of the bodies we continued through this large room until we found a door which was locked, I expertly checked for any triggers for traps before unlocking it. Behind the door we found a empty and much smaller room containing large golden statues, as much as I wanted to snagged those bad boys for profit I knew that there was something off about them so I went against my better judgement and refrained from taking a statue....however our dear fighter Grigor decided upon himself to take one anyway. I informed him of the risks of doing such things in places like these but he wouldn’t listen...folks like him die quick out here so a lesson to you adventurers never pick up shiny things until you know its safe to do so...anyway we moved on to a much larger room where more of this green liquid stuff was pooling out. I began searching the room for anything of use but before I could get started I think Kaar discovered the zombies...that's when a load of bullshit began. We tried to run toward the hall to re-group and protect ourselves but it seemed the Zombies ran the opposite direction so we ended up giving chase...which lord and behold led to another ambush led by the demons of course. We confirmed our positioning and began fending them off as best as possible...until I remembered the noise earlier of multiple rats...turns out there were more than I anticipated...so we were surrounded from both sides by a shit ton of rats and zombies very large centipedes and those weird demons to top it off. I think you can guess how that turned out....we kicked their asses! I came up with the genius idea of dropping oil in the water and having Kaar ignite it burning the dire rats to a crisp, Cain and Sabaufein took care of the centipedes and demons while I supported the two with a shit ton of daggers. I was worried for Nyx for a while due to her being missing for the majority of it but she appeared unharmed thankfully. Afterward we continued down the path of weird demon juice until I realized that I was beginning to cough up blood myself whatever disease that these demons had running through the temple it was beginning to affect me and others of the party, yet we continued and found a huge statue to what I came to find was the deity of the temple itself...Cain climbed the large statue and talked with it for a time and then returned down with what looked like a bunch of hands in the form of a necklace. Cain then took the hands and put it into this enormous fountain which almost immediately got rid of the corruption within the temple. Afterwards the voice of the deity itself began to speak into my mind and the Paladins it thanked us for our efforts and awarded us with power...I refused but the Paladins received a boost of power which was good I guess. An there you have it we cleared out the demons and zombies and whatever the fuck else was in there without losing a soul due to my expert leadership...

Treasure Rewards Split evenly for session 61

Cain had bought Thryn's Book of Medicines with his own money so that would be 100 split be 16 gold for everyone else
Lux bought the Introversion of Toxins with her own money so that would be 16 gold for everyone else
We just sold the other book so everyone would get 14 gold for that
From the gems everyone would get 28 gold 5 silver

The scrolls I do not care much about but I would suggest that they go to those who did not get a boon from the god first

So in total it would be:
58gp and 5sp for Lux and Cain
74gp and 5sp for everyone else

Everyone OK with this?

Session 62: It could have been worse...

This is my recollection of events that occurred while in the company of one Mindartis on the venture to the Fane of the Haunter

The full company included;
The aforementioned Mindartis, arsehole
Myself, Iloa. Prince of Kameha.
Horcus, Cain's friend
Sadie, small, old but deadly
Gaxx, large, young not as deadly
Weasel, a fresh off the boater
Kelver, another fresh de-boated
And later on;
Marokin, a devil-folk clown close to Mindartis.

After our meeting in back room of Tipsy Mermaid where the plan for mission is laid out to all we met up just after dawn the next morning to take Eadric's ferry over to the mainland. Eadric engaged in some betting as usual but lowered his odds with Horcus present, how sadly irony. Once across sound we travelled along to Gatesgarth as Mindartis said it most important to reach the village before nightfall and our passage was dogged by dark clouds of foul weather. We passed the site of construction a few miles in the valley, a new keep was going up called Redvale, a village was already growing around it even though the walls were not done. Continuing we reached the village of Gatesgarth as sunset came upon us and piled into some old building that served as tavern and inn for the place.

There were many people within, a patrol from the Red Dragons, several travellers and some natives. We were graced by a visit from the local Lord too, he was interested to know why an armed party would be resting here. Mindartis had at this point disappeared for a while on his own business without telling us anything. Horcus told the Lord we were just passing through and I engaged in talking with the Red Dragons when the weird Lord left us alone. They told me things seemed less troubled in the area of late, but to be wary of savage goblins and bandits. After that they departed to their horses and the natives left to bed down in their own homes. Mindartis reappeared soon after wanting to carry on the journey, but it was well into the night and we did not want to venture into the dark and the snow. We were not left alone during the night however.

Horcus' familiar set about a baleful screeching as an intruder slipped in while all were asleep, a man cried that his wife were killed so I immediately went over while the rest awoke themselves and tried to pursue the invader. The woman was not dead but had been drugged, the assailant had used a strange poison that could well have killed her, so either she was lucky or this person knew well their business. I prepared tincture that would restore her senses and left the woman in care of her husband before gathering my weapons and following out what was now a mob. The intruder had been tracked into the undercroft of the lord's hall, though inside Gaxx found nought but livestock, quickly everyone abouted back to the inn where only a bruised Weasel remained, everyone else's belonging rifled and stolen from.

A trap door was located, well concealed, behind the bar. A number of the mob, angry at the intrusion and at the thievery both bore down it, but came up almost immediately pale and terrified, screaming of bones. I am not afraid of no ghosts though, so I ventured down myself accompanied by Kelver. The ladder was rough and must have been a good twenty feet long before we found the floor, the chamber too was rough - not a great deal of skill had gone into the construction but it served. Light down here struggled to penetrate the darkness as far as it should and we soon found why following the tunnel into a larger chamber, the floor here a foot deep with bones.

The sense of profane was strong, but not complete. Whatever had been tried here was not finished though the bones varied in age from ancient and crumbling to dust or as recent as a month. I halted my pursuit to cleanse the area while Kelver carefully examined the tracks of the villains. He determined that their trail leading out was false and that really they had ventured through a different and concealed tunnel, which inside was of a much better construction. I told him to bring the others while I finished my work and Horcus came down to see it. The bones had been cleansed by then, only a white ash remained and clean smell remained, as well as a strange satchell. We carefully examined the contents, expecting some evil but instead found two scrolls in decorative cases and a strange manual of magical practice. The other tunnel was long, pursuit would lead us long away from our purpose here so it was given over for now and we return to the inn.

Most travellers then were going to leave, after the events of the night were determined not to stay here and would risk the night despite all attempt to reason. Kelver volunteered to guide them rather at least so that the worst might not visit them and so our party lost his services. There were no more disturbances in the night, particularly after we barricaded the trap door so we set off in the morning into the bonewood itself. We took our lunches in the shade of a lightning smote tree, which is where Marokin joined us. Mindartis seemed to like this for some reason, but Gaxx did not for the clown used his powers to mock the half-orc. We seemed to reach our destination to Mindartis' satisfaction though before a fight broke out, and carefully made our way inside this Fane of the Haunter.

There was a pool in the entrance chamber, in which weasel found a magic sword and slipped it into his backpack, Marokin and Mindartis carefully examining a statute filled hallway to the west for traps, and marking a suspicious flagstone that bade all of us not step on. Beyond the hallway they entered a dining hall, skeletons and a ghostly figure dining on spectral food to an eldritch music. Marokin decided to greet them and unsurprisingly everything became hostile. Swords themselves came to life, including the one weasel had found, it tore through his pack and attacked us. After which he was too overcome by fear it seemed and ran away. Myself, Gaxx and Sadie put an end to the animated swords and entered the dining hall, where it seemed the spectral ghost 'king' had taken possession of Mindartis.

Luckily we were able to beat the senses out of Mindartis to expel the ghost, it attempted to take my form but I forbade it! Marokin had beat a path upstairs, and we heard his wailing that he had somehow created an evil doobell of himself, and then he got possessed by a harp-oracle or something and was out of the fight also. His evil doobell was not however and delighted in cooking poor horcus alive in his armor as we desperately sought to try and destroy the ghost even as it clawed life itself from us. Just before we had finally dispatched the horrific entity, the doobell slayed horcus, and another shade rose from his charred corpse. Marokin finally returned to us at this point, jumping from an upper balcony onto the dining table. His monkey threw a mug at the ghost, and to everyone's surprise, killed it.

The clown used a measure of his power to heal me and bring Mindartis back up before begging us to knock him out in order to stop the doobell, which I did and heard the doppelganger collapse upstairs. Sadly the shade of Horcus then took advantage of the downed tiefling and killed him on the floor. Or seemed to. He disappeared and we heard a shattering of glass. After dispatching the shade we went upstairs and found a broken mirror, one of the shards however containing an image of Marokin, pounding on the glass as if trying to get out. I carefully bagged up some remnants for the White Horse to examine on our return. In another room we found the strange harp, Mindartis claimed it an oracle. It was a foul thing, demanding blood and flesh but in exchange granting the truth to a question.

Each of us asked it a question and it gave me my answer though I lost a finger for it, as did the others. A painful sacrifice, but at least for me a very easy one to make given the importance of my question. Mindartis even sacrificed another for the knowledge of how to free Marokin from whatever prison he was in. To do so was told to venture to Jun'Ogar, an ancient lost sithi city. There were no answers for Horcus however, he was dead and beyond the aid of any. We carried his body out, I am not familiar with the rites of his god, Sol, so I gave him those of my own and hoped they would suffice until we could bring him to Cain at the Halls of the Dead. During the night of our sombre return journey the man's earthly remains gave a glowing radiance that kept us undisturbed. Briefly myself and Sadie considered keeping such a useful night-light but Mindartis seemed to throw a fit at this gallows humour and went off in a huff, but he did pay us double which was nice.

P.S Adolpho. I make full account to you of what happened, I trust you will know best if anything should be kept out of public record.
Just a remark: there will be log from marokin as well ;p

Session 63: Mushy The Goat [RIP]

Our adventurers are:

Cannon Fodder; lvl 2 Half-Orc Barbarian (Cody V)
Nyx; lvl 2 Gnome Ranger (Justine)
Mathias Blanc; lvl 1 Half-Elf Cleric (Speedhawk)
Von; lvl 4 Tiefling Fighter (ilikestuff)
Lux; lvl 4 Human Rogue (Taleek)
Sadie; lvl 3 Halfling Rogue (Seraphina)
Vox; lvl 1 Human Bard (Sloth)
Kelver; lvl 1 Gnome Ranger (Ashton)

With a short appearance of good old mushy.

Our adventure started with Maladon gaining two more citizens; Mathias Blank (a Half-Elf Cleric) and Cannon Fodder (a Half-Orc Barbarian). They followed the Tiefling to the Tipsy Mermaid, the HQ of the Blue Sashes where they met Sadie, Kelver, Lux, Vox, and Nyx (Pronounced Nox). Having become acquainted with each other, the party set off to the White Horses to accept a mission. Find out more about the gnomes a party recently encountered. So the party supplied themselves with two decanters of endless water among other things. Cannon Fodder was sullen he had to leave his portable ram behind. And so our party made it to the portal to Makra.  Each person with a stone in hand stepped though the portal. The first thing they noticed about Makra was the sweltering heat. Their gazes traveled around taking in all of the ash and lava that was found everywhere. Their gazes eventually settled on a redheaded woman named Lorwyn Butterworth who checked them for magic items and pointed them on their way. The party walked the rest of the day heading north. The party made their way north hiking in the extreme heat all day long. Then the party took a long rest. Nothing eventful happened then. When everyone had awoken a few of the party members found cloven hove tracks that led off into a dark cave full of pretty, pretty, pretty mushrooms. The party wouldn't let Cannon Fodder take any of the pretty mushrooms or touch them. They threatened to put him on a leash. They were making it through the cave (the ones did not have darkvision were led by those who did) when someone bumped a mushroom and it began screaming. So we beat the crap out of the person that bumped it (not really) and made our way to the next cavern when Mathias ran up to a mushroom that looked like a scream mushroom and.....he set it off alerting several gnomes of our presence and was shot in the neck with a poison dart by a gnome causing him to pass out. Our party was in quite a pickle but lucky for us Vox, that awesome individual, had cast comprehend language so he could understand what they were saying, AND one of our party members had apparently helped out some other gnomes like them before and word had spread. So with the use of some rough sign language and gesturing and with Mathias in tow we were led by the gnomes back to their village. As luck would have it there was another there who could use comprehend language and Vox acted as the voice of the party. A few of the party members gave gifts to the gnomes and the gnomes gave them gems. The gnomes decided to throw a feast for us and we found out how the gnomes got their water which was also the source of the tracks we were following. They were these goat type creatures with mushrooms growing out of them and the gnomes would press the mushrooms and collect the water that would pour out of  them. Then we found out they had a bit of a water problem so Vox gave them one of the Decanters of endless water and in exchange the gnomes gave him some gems and one of those goat things that Cannon Fodder begged for. And so we ate and drank and had a merry time, Cannon and his goat bonded instantly and Cannon found out his new pal ate meat! He was so happy! He named the beast Mushy. After the feast Kelver, Nyx, Von, and Lux decided to stay to learn the language and explore a bit. We also convinced one of the gnomes to come back with us. We were on our way back to the portal when we heard the hissing of some Stone Gazers but luckily our gnome friend steered us clear and we made it back to the portal without further incident. Ms. Butterworth noticed that were were down a Decanter so Vox had to sign some form and we made our way to the portal but forgot that the goblin needed a stone to pass through. One of the party members lent their stone to the  goblin and Cannon Squeezed his Mushroom goat Mushy and they all stepped through. Once they were on the other side one of the party members returned the stone and after  few days Cannon noticed that his goat was drying up. Cannon Desperate to keep his friend wrapped towels around Mushy but his goat remained sickly. So while his party was planning to return Mushy, with tearful eyes and a heavy heart, Cannon put his best friend......His new best friend out of its misery and ate him in sorrow.....We dropped our gnome friend off at the White Horses and so with their mission our adventurers awaited their next. [RIP Mushy]
