Status:
DENIED
“ The
applicant’s parents are belters in and around the Macene system, and he mostly
grew up aboard the family’s mining ship. He attended classes on various space
stations occasionally, but was otherwise shipboard educated. Despite that, the applicant shows good
overall levels of education and technical aptitude.
“During the interview, the applicant
expressed the typical desire to travel and seek glory, but he noted that he had
never set foot on a planetary body larger than an asteroid. The applicant seems
to have only the most passing knowledge of the Imperium and the challenges
facing it.
“In psychological screening, the
applicant should a strong tendency toward independence and anti-authoritarian
impulses. This, in addition to the applicant’s extremely limited socialization,
bring this this board to find the applicant unsuitable for service in the Star
Marines at this time.”

Personnel Officer’s Notes: “ Apprentice Marine Crow has served with some distinction through his first
term in the Merchant Marines and aboard the Marco
Polo. Early on, there were some minor discipline issues, but nothing that
his superiors deemed worthy of official record. Mr. Crow seems able and
ambitious, perhaps overly so, leading us to decide that he is an excellent
candidate for the Imperial Naval General Mandate 0300543T-1b. We therefore
retire Mr. Crow’s enlistment with the Merchant Marine Service, with honor, and
transfer him to the Ryhlanor Subsector Navy”.

retention, and in light of certain local tensions, the Office of the Imperial
Navy hereby authorizes Sector and Subsector Naval Office to issue mandates to
local civilian and paramilitary services and corporations to transfer specific
quotas of qualified personnel for voluntary Naval Service. Furthermore, this
Office gives said Sector and Subsector Naval Offices to issue enlistment

Specialist Training: Gunnery
(turret) +1
Event
Summary: The Apprentice was assigned to a landing party
during a survey mission to Kegena (Spinward Marches 3016). The party was attacked
and overrun by primitive natives. Spacehand Corlis, Teira fell behind during
the strategic withdrawal, but Apprentice Crow went back for her. Apprentice
Crow was unable to retrieve Spacehand Corlis, but was able to distract the
attackers long enough for the survey team to mount counterstrike and retrieval.
Spacehand Corlis died due to her injuries shortly thereafter, and Apprentice
Crow was critically injured and transferred to Medical Ship Kervorkian for surgery and
rehabilitation.
Commendations: Combat
Ribbon, Purple Heart.
Medical Record Citations: After stabilizing the patient and treating his injuries, the Kervorkian’s cybernetics crew has been
given the approval to install a compensatory cybernetic eye.
-The patient has recovered from
his injuries completely and has adapted remarkably well to his new eye. We
hereby authorize Apprentice Crow to return to full active duty.

Officer’s Note: Toward the end of an otherwise
uneventful tour of duty, SublieutenantCrow received word that his
parents, belters in Macene, had struck it big. His parents paid him back all of
the money that he had sent them over the years, with interest, and invited him
to come back to help them run up their new mining combine. Surprisingly, he
turned them down and signed up for another term in the Navy.

Record Citations: -Lieutenant Crow has
been ordered to the medical bay due to bouts of weakness and nausea. In the
course of examination, it was noted that the patient’s hair is brittle and falls
out easily. Patient has been ordered off rotation and into isolation per
suspected radiation exposure protocol. -The patient’s condition
continues to advance. All of his body hair has now fallen out, weakness, nausea
and intermittent pain all continue to suggest radiation poisoning, although no
unusual level of radiation has been detected. We are beginning treatment for
radiation poisoning, encouraging the patient to take an active role in his
treatment to keep up his morale. Additional Training: Medical +1. -Patient is displaying an
adverse reaction to the radiation treatments and is becoming noncompliant. He
insists that his “research and experimentation” suggest that he is suffering
from some form of parasitic infection. We have assured him that he has already
been screened for all known viral, bacterial and parasitic agents. We are
running still more tests for alien and unknown biologicals to keep the patient
compliant. At least until our application for permission to apply chemical or
physical restraint to control the patient is approved. -We are hereby rescinding our
application to restrain the patient. We have discovered that his body has
become host to a previously unknown parasite of unknown origin, hereafter named
for the presiding doctors in this case, the Mendicas/Glurbh parasitic xenoform. -Oh, and the patient is
recovering nicely with introduction a mind but broad-based antibiotic and a
powerful laxative to his treatment plan. -The patient has fully
recovered from his infection by the Mendicas/Grubh parasite. Even his bodily
hair is growing back, albeit with a bright green hue. Lieutenant Crow has been
prescribed a long-acting hair dye and cleared to return to active duty.

Event
Summary: The Oberon’s tour has been relatively quiet; just a few encounters with pirates and
raiders along the borders. They usually fled at first indication of our size
and power. About the only real excitement we’ve had was a sniping contest
between our talented young Gunner’s Mate, Lieutenant-Count Wixin and our new
Gunnery Chief, Lieutenant Commander Crow. Despite the young noble’s
extraordinary talent, Lt. Col. Crow’s experience and honed reflexes won the
day. Note: Despite rumors, the Naval JA officer aboard found no solid evidence
of illegal gambling on the outcome of the contest.

Summary: The Oberon’s
presence along the border is growing additional attention of late. Naval
Intelligence suggests that some of our encounters with Vargr corsairs may be
the prelude to something bigger. At the end of this tour, the ship and the Navy
say goodbye to the newly promoted Captain Jacob Crow, as he retires. His tireless
work commanding the maintenance crews for all the Oberon’s weapons systems will be missed.

Record Citation: Captain Crow’s re-enlistment
Physical Examination finds that he has lost some bone mass, most likely due to
the long term effects of the anti-radiation treatments he underwent on the Doberman aggravated by age. This medical
team cannot in good conscience recommend that his re-enlistment be approved.
