So I was asked by a friend to GM some sort of Pokemon game and it sort of stirred up some interest in me. I had some ideas but unfortunately they had to pull out but I'm still interested in giving it a shot. There are a couple systems made for Pokemon but I am also considering using Hero System for the freedom and versatility (the system always feels more grounded and flexible at the same time). Though I know some people are intimidate (or just don't like) the system. So I am looking for for like 3-4 people who would be interested in playing a slightly more mature Pokemon game. What I had worked up for an intro goes something like this. In our world Pokemon had been an important part of our culture for as long any historian can trace back. Cave paintings of Tauros and Aerodactyls have been discovered near protohuman remains. Sadly the rapid expansion of humans has caused pokemon populations to dwindle but the digital revolution of 100 years ago began to change this. Pokemon, unlike animals, have a energy signature that can be digitized and stored. They can exist in their full true form in both the real world and a digital. Pokeballs PokeComputers were invented to help give pokemon a new life in a digital world. Pokemon Trainers have been around since the dawn of civilization but Pokeballs gave the tradition a whole new life. About 50 years ago Team Security created the gold standard of Pokeballs. Every trainer wanted them for their ability to change size, the ability to digitize and instantly transfer to PCs, and what they were best known for, being 100% hack proof. Poketheft was on the rise and as with any digital information hackers found ways to access and trade pokemon without consent. This was a huge scare. this wasn't just information, this was a life. Team Security put an end to this and became the official PCs of PokeCenters and nno serious trainer would use any thing else In time they had a monopoly. That is when all went south. It was the annual Championship Match between Shigeru Aoki, grandson of the famous Professor Aoki, and his long time rival Ash "Red" O'Kiley. The world was watching as Red's Charizard and Aoki's Blastoise struggled for dominance. It had been the most heated match in recent memory and both were down to their final pokemon. Ash, the favored to win, was at a type disadvantage yet had the upper hand for the moment. there was a sudden gasp as both pokemon returned to their balls, the two competitors as confused as the rest. Suddenly all pokemon began inexplicably returning to their balls. You all should remember this day. I pulled your names because you were all contenders for the junior championship that year. As you each know, Team Security stayed silent about why their balls and PCs began "malfunctioning" for day. We learned soon enough they they didn't malfunctioned but acted as they were intended. Team Security's long term plan was to become the sole owner of all pokemon and assert global domination though their power. Their armies filled the streets, trainer's pokemon corrupted and turned against them. War broke out but our society's was so entwined with our pokemon that with weapons alone we stood no chance. Many fell to Team Security's reign out of fear and once that began the governments of the world crumpled. Resistance cells have always been present since that day, but with the minerals needed to make pokeballs controlled by Team Security and their information security nearly unhackable there has been little progress. The best we have been able to do is publish video games, cartoons, and comics to keep pokemon fresh in the public view. Until now. I did say nearly unhackable and little progress right? Thats why I have called you all here. You have made it known you are not loyal to Team Security and their shadow leader. You were some of the best, like no one ever was." The professor steps aside. You see a pre-Team Security model PokeHeal. It is the first one any of you have seen fully operational and inside are the classic red and white pokeballs of your great-great grandparent's generation. "I have discovered what it is that Team Security does with the pokemon that they do not use as weapons. They are siphoned for their energy like batteries. to what purpose I do not know. The last hacker to figure this out was found dead. He tried to free a very powerful pokemon of his Red O'Kinley's. I discovered that this was how he was caught. It caused a noticeable fluctuation of power. There is an acceptable variable in energy loss that is expected and I determined which of your old pokemon could be freed without notice. While I know this is a chance to possibly finally tip the odds in our favors, I am more excited to reunite you with your old friends.
