Here is a brief introduction to the setting. October 18th, 1962 (Thursday) The Nikola Tesla Research Center, 70 miles West of Colorado Springs, Colorado Our 1962 is much like the real 1962. Two days ago the New York Yankees beat the San Fransisco Giants in an epic 7 game World Series contest. "I Can't Stop Loving You" by Ray Charles (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_7iRVtxui8" rel="nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_7iRVtxui8</a>) is number 2 on the Billboard Magazine's Top 100 songs list. Yes, I mention #2 because the number one song is some awful clarinet piece by Acker Bilk. Seriously what were they thinking? However, The Beatles have just released their first single "Love Me Do" in the UK, although it will be 2 years until it crosses the pond. This is screaming on all the radios, (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FS7SUFz36lg" rel="nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FS7SUFz36lg</a>). Too bad Colorado isn't on the beach. The TV show, The Jetsons has just begun reaching kids as part of the Saturday morning lineup and Johnny Carson has just taken over the Tonight Show. But we aren't here to talk pop culture. The Vietnam War has recently been escalating over the past two years and tension between the United States and the Soviet Union are at an all time high. What you don't know just yet is that the Soviets have just recently been caught arming Cuba with long range nuclear warheads pointed straight at the US. But what you are most interested in is the US Space Program. Just over a month ago U.S. President John F. Kennedy reaffirmed his commitment to put an astronaut on the moon by the end of the decade. The Sigma 7 spacecraft has recently made its 6th orbit of Earth in fifth manned mission of the U.S. Space Program and Mariner 2 is slowly nearing Venus. All these events are directly tied to you and your colleagues efforts at the Nikola Tesla Research Center. The Nikola Tesla Research Center, or NTRC, is a top secret government research center isolated in the mountains near Buena Vista, Colorado. The NTRC began it's construction in 1942 as part of the Manhattan Project. After the development of nuclear weapons the NTRC was reorganized to research a number of cutting edge technologies. Departments of Military Tech, Space Technologies, and Computer Science were all built, each with its own individual command structure each overseen by the US Military. To ensure security, each command is completely independent and avoids sharing resources with other departments. Now seeming more like a military base, the NTRC accommodates a number of specialties. Army and Navy special forces units have been seen testing the MOPE, or Man Operated Personal Exoskeleton. Air Force and Marine Corps pilots have been flying the prototype SF-01 Phoenix, the first stealth fighter jet. Both civilian and military scientist huddle in laboratories theorizing about new concepts of physics which could potentially lead unmanned vehicles to break the light barrier While access to the facility is tightly controlled, even foreign researchers from NATO and the Soviet Union have been invited to tour the base. There in no greater deterrent to aggression against American interests than a controlled display of American technological superiority. This should give all of you enough information to begin conceptualizing characters. The only real requirements are that you all be human and have some reason to be working or stationed at this research facility. It should accommodate a wide range of professions, from low level military grunts working as gate guards, special forces units testing new military technologies, to military or civilian doctors and scientists. To be honest, all that is really required is that you be on the base on the night of October 18th, 1962. You can be a foreign diplomat touring the facility or even a Soviet spy who has infiltrated the base. Events in game are going to totally restructure your character's priorities anyway so don't focus much on you character's rank or allegiances, those will all rapidly change. Finally, spoiler alert, I anticipate the characters to gain access to a ship fairly early on in game, so you may want to take skills which would make you useful as crew to a space faring vessel.
