Recently we have been playing an excellent game of Rise of the Runelords. In it, we have met interesting and well-characterised NPCs, became familiar with the social culture and institutions of the town, and overall experienced a lovingly detailed Sandpoint at the hands of our GM. Now we’d like to burn it to the ground... Ever look at the villains and think “your plan seems utterly terrible, I could destroy this town far more effectively”? No, just me then? Well me and my fellow ne’er-do-wells would look forward to the opportunity to take our turn at being the villains. We might also have ran into some NPCs that made us think “I wish I was playing an evil character so I can kill this guy like a chicken.” Here’s the suggestion: we’d like to recycle the maps, setting, and NPCs of Sandpoint from the start of Rise of the Runelords… only this time we approach the situation from the side of the bad-guys. Essentially we would take the role of the villains for Book 1 and do things our way. Goblins? Still there, but now our potential allies. Town guard? Still a major feature, but now an obstacle for us to infiltrate, spy on, sabotage and destroy. We need a DM. Are the normal villains still there? We can discuss those kinds of details. We’d like to be the main villains of our story, but we are adaptable if you have your own twists you’d like to put on it. This could be a one-shot adventure or part of a larger campaign (our group was originally looking for Way of the Wicked - the characters we have in mind were built for that). I’d expect this to be around levels 2-4 but the specifics can be whatever suits you best. One possibility is we can start at level 1 with Prison Break (available for free at - http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/97880/Way-of-the-Wicked-Free-Preview-Prison-Break ) and then branch off to terrorising Sandpoint after our escape. There can be Heroes of Sandpoint to oppose us (one of our group expressed a wish to murder the PCs from http://2ndcycle.com/RotR/ - while others might enjoy killing Heroes based on our own good-aligned characters), or we could be just fighting against the town itself without a band of Heroes. Does this sound interesting to anyone? If you’re intrigued, let us know and we can work on the specifics together. Time: To be determined with the GM. Weekend evenings GMT is ideal for the group, but there is some flexibility, we arrange times on a week-by-week basis if need be. PCs so far: Half-orc Ranger (Dungeon Rover) / Antipaladin (Tyrant of Asmodeus) - The Meticulous Cannibal Orc & Monster Politician. Born into an orc clan, he began as a raider relying on his rugged bad looks (Almost Human trait) to walk into human settlements as a scout without raising alarm. Now seeks to impose order and discipline on his orc clan, and for members of the clan to listen to him he needs successful raids. Sandpoint is merely a suitable target. Changeling Wizard (Void school) - Mind Worker & Soul Harvester. A researcher with an interest in examining the soul, she takes her work with her even to this beach vacation, and seeks to take advantage of the many deaths likely to be caused on both sides to gather a wealth of research materials for her future work, particularly once she makes a few noteworthy discoveries in the region. Fetchling Summoner (Shadow Caller) - Alluring & Ambitious Power-Hungry Noble. Scion of a noble line who bred for the power of shadow in their blood, this scion committed treason against his home kingdom. At high levels may wish to besiege Magnimar; if a lower-level goal is needed, then it could be getting revenge on the local nobility (for not providing support) by seizing their power-bases out from under them. Player Preferences (for the 3 players so far): Just in case you find more info about the group helpful. As a group, we are probably 80% roleplaying, 10% plot-path, 10% combat. We are very good at working together, no party infighting, we actively build friendships between the characters to make sure we work well together. We have also built our characters with group synergy in mind. I say 10% plot path because we respond really well to a sandbox environment, such as going around a village and interactions with NPCs - and then develop goals and plans to achieve them from those interactions. We engage with the setting a great deal. For combat we love the opportunity to set ambushes or traps or do sabotage to influence the fight before it happens. For example, instead of taking out a foe in an action-packed boss battle, we would be just as happy to lure them out by setting fire to the inn and shoot the guards from the shadows as they try to put out the blaze. I hope that helps. Let me know if you need any more information.
