Backstory: Infancy - Early Childhood Felara was given to worshipers of Aenor upon her birth. Aosoth assumed that once the demon child outgrew her toddling stage, she would devour those who raised her. For some reason, this prediction never came to fruition. Felara’s mortal parents treated her more as a disciple in training rather than a slowly growing child. They taught her everything that she needed to know about how best to serve Aenor, but nothing about socializing and interacting with others. Any waivering from her vile virtures resulted in strict discipline. When she was about the age as a human school child, a passing Paladin and Cleric discovered the worshipers were harboring her. After minimal threats from the Paladin, her mortal parents offered her up as a sacrifice in exchange for their lives being spared. Felara was very young, but still understood what this action meant for her. Despite her tearful state, she accepted her fate without hesitation. Her mortal parents never had true love for her, but she couldn’t bear the thought of them losing their lives. As the Paladin went to strike Felara down, the Cleric stopped him from finishing his swing. She chastised him for even considering harming a child, regardless of what race it was. The cleric scooped up demon baby and carried her as she demanded that the Paladin arrest the parents and not harm them. She then promised Felara that no harm come to her parents and that they would be arrested and were free to go when they repented their sins. This seemed to calm Felara enough that she went willingly with the Cleric. As they travelled, she found that the Cleric was named Lavina and belonged to the church of Sarenrae, while the angry Paladin named Ansiel was a follower of Iomedae. After many days of travel, Felara saw her new home, Eras. Youngsterhood - Adolescent Felara’s time in Eras was a mixture of good memories and terrible learning experiences. Ansiel and his church were convinced that they needed to slay her, else her presence would soil their city. However, Lavina never shared such a notion and the only thing she did to protect the people from the demon spawn was to place a brass band over her head with a powerful atonement spell ingrained into the metal. Every time Felara would try to do something that was considered evil/bad, it would give her a “gentle” reminder (in various forms of divine damage). Lavina said that this was a fast way to educate Felara on the difference between good and evil. Felara quickly learned that nearly anything she did was considered evil (stealing = pain, lying = pain, jaywalking = pain) The small collection of Sarenrae followers happily took Felara in as their new ward. They showered her with newfound kindness and love that the child had never experienced. Yet despite their best efforts, there were always reminders of parts of herself that could never change. One evening the parishioners attempted to teach Felara how to speak celestial, which ended up in her screaming in pain as holy light spewed from her gullet, until she laid crumpled on the floor. As Felara moved into teenhood, the other citizens of Eras that were not followers of Sarenrae would constantly use her as a scapegoat for their petty problems. This further allowed Ansiel to harass Lavina about executing the demon child. But the Church and the Cleric held firm in their position. They knew they were doing Sarenrae’s work by having a demon convert. (Fun fact: Whenever Felara tried to step foot into any other good church, she would be assaulted with painful divine magic until she was driven out.) Felara found solace in her time away from the city. Often she would accompany Lavina on pilgrimages and outing to other small Sarenrae parishes. This was where she learned how to wield her greatsword. Though the scimitar was the god’s favored weapon, she found it too delicate and not as fulfilling to wield as her greatsword. In dire situations, demon baby would fall into a brutal rage, only to be forced out by the divine force of the brass coronet. Thankfully, Lavina always made sure they managed victory over any obstacle they crossed. She tried to remind Felara to stay calm and not to use her demonic strength because it would bring much suffering. Felara tried her best to take these words to heart. But sometimes, not all good advice can be followed. Adulthood and the rise of Aenor After Aenor opened the gates to the Realm of Fire, demons came spilling forth into the city. Many of the innocents were slayed as the ran from their gruesome death. Of course the church of Sarenrae was on of the many churches that were targeted by these evil hordes. Felara fought hard against these swarms, all without challenging her brass circlet. However, the demon numbers became too great and they started to fall upon her parishioners. With one final spell, Lavina thrust herself in front of her people and cast a powerful barrier shielding them from the barrage. Sensing that she had no protection for herself, the creatures descended upon her in such great numbers that they were able to cut her down before the barrier’s effect ended. After seeing her keeper fall, Felara fell into a frenzy. Calling upon her birthright, she summoned the fearsome powers that her parents had pass to her. Her demonic blood overwhelmed any affect the circlet had and snapped in two. She carved through every demon, fiend, and evil outsider in her path, until she made enough room that her followers could flee from. Though she will never know if they were fleeing from her or the attacking demons. When the dust cleared, a pile of outsider bodies lay at her feet. She earned enough of an audience that no lesser demon dare cross her path. As her exhausted eyes scanned the city skyline for hope of salvation, she realized that, though she saved a few parishioners, there was no salvation left for the rest of the city. Felara knelt down and took a piece of her brass circlet, a reminder of what she used to be. Then she turned her feet towards the city gate. She would would walk the path of the old pilgrimages, in search of those followers who needed safety from Aenor’s wrath.
