GM Seeking 3-4 Burning Wheel Players UTC -8, 9pm or later

Are you looking for a game that will change how you think about fantasy RPGs? Burning Wheel might be the game for you! Decidedly character-based, higher-stakes than any traditional RPG, with a lot of grit and grist for both serious and casual roleplayers, Burning Wheel is a whole different beast from your PF/3.5/4e staples. Come give it a try! I'm looking to run some Burning Wheel adventures here on Roll20 and am looking for players. I'm actually finalizing setup of a campaign that includes everything needed for a demo session to introduce the game to new players who might be interested but have either never heard of BW or are not sure whether it's up their alley. BW is all about Fighting for Your Beliefs, and the game is driven not by a complex, railroady GM-written plot but the dynamic interaction of the players with the setting and each other at the table. Every choice you make is important and it makes a difference. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here, and if you are interested and 9pm or later (preferably a weeknight) at UTC -8 works for you, let me know!
I am CST so it would depend on day and time for me. I loved the Moeller comics. Talked to him e-mail in fact. I have not read the rules, though I have them. I would be very interested this though. If you do not have space I would still appreciate an invite to lurk and watch.
Absolutely--I only posted this tonight so you're my second bite. I'd like to get 4 players (best number for the demo session) but I can even run with three if need be. BW is a good game for 3-5 players plus GM since it's so character-centered.
Bump--still looking for one or two more players interested in learning Burning Wheel, or playing a session alongside some new players. Once I have the group I'll set a day that works for all.
Hey, this system sounds really interesting, but I'm on EST, so starting at midnight would be kinda tough. If by any chance you could start a little earlier, I'd be quite interested.
There may be an opportunity for me to run an earlier game during the weekend sometime--what would be a good Sunday timeframe for you?
Right now I'm busy most of Sunday already (except in the morning), but I'm free Saturdays.
Has a day been established? I can do it on a Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday. Time?
Nothing established yet. I'm waiting to hear for another person on pm before I confirm.
Never try the system before, but love to try
I'm EST with a tendency to stay up late, so (depending on how long sessions run) this is a perfect time for me to play. Are you using the original, revised or gold?
Gold is the plan--it's the version I'm most familiar with and the only ruleset I have on hand. I'll PM you the campaign link.
What is this, exactly?
Hi Han: Burning Wheel is a fantasy rpg that focuses more on answering the question "What would you do to pursue your goals/beliefs?" than "Can you kill the big monster?" Though that second question does come into play too from time to time. As a result, it's a better game for a slightly smaller group (5 players absolute max for me) and players need to be prepared for their characters to change a LOT in the course of the game because the core mechanic of the game is that the players establish beliefs for their characters about the current game situation and then the GM throws wrinkles in the situation designed to play to and challenge one or more of those beliefs simultaneously so hard decisions need to be made. The results of those decisions are (almost) always meaningful and game-changing. So it's not like you build toward a character concept by adding mechanical bits here and there. You only get better at anything by using that thing specifically, and as mentioned before your choices about how you solve problems affect the game. So a character who uses their Sword skill to solve every problem will certainly get better at fighting but their world will get dangerous and bloody very, very quickly. For this game, I'm in the process of scheduling a one-shot demo scenario to introduce folks to the mechanics, and then we will start up a campaign with those who are interested from there (using new characters and a setting that we develop as a group in the first campaign session). Hope this answers some of your questions! PM me if this seems up your alley--we may lose one or two folks between demo and campaign and I can let you know if we have room!
Demo game of The Sword has been settled on for this Friday at 9pm Pacific [UTC -8]. Can accommodate one more player if you want to PM me--I can send a link to the campaign.
I think I may very much be interested in this.
