Character Creation & New to Roll20

SO... I'm about 25 years removed from roll playing AD&D, and am trying roll20 with a few friends. Do you need to be invited into a game before a character sheet can be put together? Can I, without having Plus or Pro status, create a character & sheet and save it in my account to be imported later? I created a test character on the Fifth Edition app, saved it to Google Drive, and can't seem to import it. Thanks!

Welcome to roll20 Tim.  You can create a game and choose any character sheet template available to the roll20 community.  Pro users can also use custom sheets as well.  Once you create your game, you can +Add a new journal/character from the sidebar that will use the template you chose for your game.  You can create as many characters as you wish. GM's in other games "may" allow you to import your character using the character vault.   This is up to that games creator.  Many GM's will either have you create a character in their game or pick from pre-generated characters.  It's really up to the GM.  I don't believe there's a way to import your 5e character into roll20.  Some sheet's (pathfinder) can import HeroLab or PCgen characters.  Someone else will need to comment on what's available for the 5e sheet's (OGL and Shaped).  There may be something similar.
