Dynamic Lighting - Fog Cloud and Partial Visibility

Love the dynamic lighting system, but one short-coming I've been experiencing is when some semi-transparent or otherwise obscuring object (fog, thick foliage, etc.) that would restrict (but, crucially, not block) a character's view regardless of light. Of course, there are technically some work-arounds like implementing fog of war, but in addition to being universal rather than character-specific, I feel like fog of war and dynamic lighting kind of make each other redundant. My thoughts on how this might work is to use the draw shape tool to cover the affected area, and it only reveals squares (or equivalent distance) that a character is adjacent to. Oh, and apologies if this is something that's already been suggested. I did do a cursory look, but could very well have missed something.
