"Talk to myself" alternative?

Hi! I recently upped my DM game with multiple scripts and macros - however, it seems that /talktomyself does not allow for api commands to be executed. I thought just setting up a macro for toggling it would be fine, but I keep forgetting it one way or another. So, is there an alternative to /talktomyself? There are exceptional circumstances where I'd normally need for players to be able to see chat (and I can much easier deal with them never seeing it - if that is a side effect of a possible solution).  Starting and ending an api macro with /talktomyself didn't work. We use shaped character sheets so there isn't even an option to set up sheets by default to whisper to dm. Plus we are mostly playing official modules. Is the only solution really to just edit all my macros to whisper to dm and edit all the creature sheets manually to whisper to dm? (Granted it's not that time consuming in shaped, but I use statblock when running my games and generally don't even open creature sheets) Thanks in advance!

Make sure you are using the latest Github (not OneClick) copies of sheet and script. I believe that Whisper to the GM is now more controllable as a default. All my sheets default to that. I've had to specifically turn them on in the past. Make sure you run through the config on the script.

I don't play 5e so I am not familiar with the sheets nor the provided macros, but for my games, I run my npc's with a macro (in my collections tab) that I have set up as a token action called NPCAttack which consists merely of : /w gm @{selected|npcattsmacro} the npcattsmacro is the name of the field (in my sheet) called by the roll button on the sheet. Perhaps you could set up something similar for your sheet's attacks? edit:  or what keithcurtis said since he's more familiar with the sheet.. :)
