LFG newish player looking for weekly group. Open to rules, campaign setting.

Hello all,     My name is Jake, and I'm looking to join a group. I really love DnD however I live in a rural area and to say that interest around here is sparse would be a gross understatement. My DnD experience involves me DMing a homebrew campaign for my family. I have a general working knowledge of the rules and mechanics, but the campaign I ran was very rule-light and very fantastic in nature due to my family not being into the "game" but into the story. I was very proud of the world I built and I was very proud of my family for ripping it to shreds and forcing me to push my creative limits to keep up with all of the awesome things they came up with that threw me for a loop every friday night. That campaign ended due to a family tragedy and I haven't had it in me to create a whole new world. I've also never played as a character, only a DM. I didn't start out wanting to be a DM but it was the only way really for me to get into it at the time. So what I bring to the table: I am enthusiastic, flexible, I love narrative and RP, I want to have fun, and I'm dying to roll a character! So if you have a group that is starting a new campaign or have a spot open in an existing campaign hit me up! I would love to play a rogue, but I would be happy with any role/class. I am in PST and nights and weekends work best for me.  Cheers! -Jake
Hey, Jake. I'm not Jake. I hope that's cool. I'm a Pacific Time person too, and have run games online for a while now. I prefer the pace (and the built-in longer term memory) of a text-based game, but can run over voice if necessary. I'm not a D&D guy. I know a lot of people are, and I used to be, and it's awesome, but it's not where I go now. My kids are D&D guys (except for the one that's a girl), and I know they enjoy it. 5th Ed sounds pretty cool, at least how my son explains it. Anyway, I run three games, and would totally do a fourth. The Saturday has an opening, though I'm chatting with someone about that. The Sunday could have one. Its the furthest from D&D, but the closest match to the fun you describe of players tearing your precious setting to shreds. The Monday one is full. So if you're interested, I could do a Friday thing. I like to fill my weekends. Also, something earlier on Saturday, ending before 4pm our time, could work. Other weekday evenings, maybe, but not preferred since I'd have to start after work and end earlyish to get sleep for the next day. What sort of genres, settings, etc do you like?
Im pretty open to genres, to me its more about the people you're playing with. I could get into things like a western, neo tokyo, space, steam punk, fantasy, really whatever. I'm sure there are loads of games and settings I've yet to hear about.  I'm not into horror. I'd say that would be the only thing I'm not into. Not that I would shy away from things getting dark or serious, just not into excessive macabre etc. Other than that I'm open. What kind of games do you run?
