Your party is now approaching the Village of Jemison, having ridden up from the lands of the Bitter Coast. You are poorly mounted, badly equipped, and have no large sums of cash. In fact, all you have is what you wear and what you ride, plus the few coins that are hidden in purses and pockets. What you do possess in quantity, though, is daring and desire to become wealthy and famous. Thus you have come to Jemison to learn. Is this indeed a place for adventurers to seek their fortunes? You all hope, of course, to gain riches and make names for yourselves. The outcome of this is uncertain, but your skill and daring, along with a good measure of luck, will be the main ingredients of what follows, be it for weal or woe. The small community at the crossroads is a completely unknown quantity. What is there? Who will be encountered? Where should you go? These are your first explorations and encounters, so chance may dictate as much as intelligence. Will outsiders be shunned? Are the reports true — is the whole community engaged in evil practices? Are the folk here bumpkins, easily duped? Does a curse lay upon those who dare to venture into the lands which were once held by the Shadow? All of these questions will soon be answered. The dusty, rutted road is lined with closely-grown hedges of brambles and shrubs. Here and there it cuts through a copse or crosses a rivulet. To either hand, forest and meadow have given way to field and orchard. A small herd of cattle graze nearby, and a distant hill is dotted with stone chimneys with thin plumes of blue smoke rising from them. A road angles west into the hill country, and to either side of the road ahead are barns and buildings — Jemison at last! The adventure begins... The Knight of Diamonds is a game using 5th edition D&D rules set in the world of Greyhawk . It's ok if you don't have prior experience with that setting. There will be A LOT of information provided for you in the game forum. This is a weekly game that's held on Roll20 and runs every Tuesday evening from 8:30 pm to 1 am Pacific time (GMT -8). Discord is used for voice and you must have a working microphone and headset. If you're interested in joining, please post a reply below. I'm looking to fill two openings. Allowed books are Player's Handbook, Xanathar's Guide to Everything and Volo's Guide to Monsters. PC races from Volo's are okay, on a case-by-case basis. Other books or resources such as Unearthed Arcana may be allowed, subject to DM's discretion. No evil PCs, please. Character generation will use 27 point buy. Please be sure to take a moment to read everything below before submitting an application. Please do not submit a character when you post your application. To ensure that we are all on the same page, here are my basic expectations regarding this game: Good play isn't a win/lose kind of thing. Player characters are expected to work together; major conflicts might erupt that you will eventually get patched up given some time. Lone wolf-type characters probably won't work; ditto for PvP. Your job as a player is to set a goal for your character and to pursue it proactively while still keeping within the parameters of the story which will involve consideration of the group. My role to the rules is to follow them, come what may. This also involves any house rules. After many sessions of play, a player decides to have her character side with an enemy. This is something that, ideally, shouldn't happen unless the character was magically influenced in some way that would cause such an event to occur. In that case, if it did occur, this condition will only last until the other player characters find out and do something about it. This game runs best when characters are written with extensive backstories or histories that take full advantage of the game world AND are created with the intention of co-creating the game world with the other players and the DM on a collaborative basis. The amount of RP to combat in this game will be about 60/40 but can be adjusted depending on the preferences of the group. The game is set in a version of Greyhawk that will deviate from established canon. The actions of the PCs have a chance to influence or shape the history of the world. Players may be asked to do some world-building on occasion. For this game to work, you have be able to commit to the schedule and you also have to show up on time. Would you please answer these questions? Detailed answers are preferred whenever possible; by "detailed", I mean that I'm not looking for 1-2 sentence replies. The ideal player is someone who puts a little effort and thought into answering the questions below. The purpose of the questionnaire is to tell me a little bit about your point of view and who you are as a gamer. Please be sure to answer all of the questions. 1. Would you please tell me a little bit about yourself? Anything you care to share at all? 2. What do you look for in D&D games that interest you? 3. Are mechanics important to you, or do you prefer an emphasis on story and fluff? Why? 4. Please tell me about your gaming pet peeves, if you have any. 5. Describe a campaign event or situation you have enjoyed in previous gaming. 6. Do you have a favorite character class, and if so, what is it? Why is it your favorite? 7. Please tell me a little bit about a campaign event or situation that you did not enjoy from a previous game and help me understand why you didn’t like it. 8. Please tell me about a conflict you have had in the past with a player or DM and how that was resolved. 9. Describe a character concept in 5 sentences or less. The concept is not final. It is simply a way for me to see how you go about developing a character and what type of game you're looking for. It can be a character you'd like to play or it can be a character you have played in a previous game, either from 5th edition D&D or from a previous edition of D&D. 10. Describe your personality in three words or less. 11. Do you have any questions for me? Thanks for reading and good luck!
