Shipyards along the Delaware river are turning out ships for England as fast as they can. In the streets of Philadelphia another power slowly wakes. The country still shaken from the War of the Worlds broadcast two months ago, the current of war is sweeping away the Great Depression, Jazz music fills the downtown with hope for the future. In the dark places things are moving, a force seems to gather in those of like mind. The madmen are organizing. At midnight or just before the mastermind of the Philadelphia Poison Ring is scheduled to hang at Eastern State Penitentiary. Events move toward a time of great danger, a danger that dwarfs the rising tide of war, a danger that threatens life itself.
