[5e]Looking For Players With Love For RP

So, I've been developing a world for a while with a few homebrew elements. I've ran a few campaigns in it with some casual players, to test things and of course to have fun in this world I've been piecing together. My rules are almost done and I'm compiling a Player’s Guide as well as a roll20 game to put it all together, and as such, I'm also looking to start the long process of finding FIVE GOOD PLAYERS. Finding the perfect group is not easy, especially when the purpose of the group is for not just your own entertainment, but also the entertainment of others. There's a synergy that can't be known just through applications alone. So, my plan is to take apps I like from here and invite them to a Discord where we can just chat and talk about lore and characters and do some light RP perhaps. Occasionally I'll run oneshots for a handful of players and after about two months of just casual playing and talking I'll choose the five players I think will be best suited for a long term streamed campaign. The other players I fully encourage to play with my ruleset and with the world, as my goal is to eventually release it for a fair price on dmsguild. If you're interested, feel free to tell me about yourself and your play style, whether that's through an app or a more informal way, it's up to you. The things I'm looking for in a player are simple. Besides a love of D&D, I'm looking for people who enjoy the acting and the role-playing of the game. Storytellers, writers, and actors are very welcome. Having a "character voice", whether it's an accent or simply a tone helps immensely. I don't want to force you to do this. I want players who love doing this as part of the game. If you don't like the acting and the embodiment of a persona that comes with this style of play, this isn't the game for you. If exploring a fleshed out world and stepping into the shoes of your character is something you love to do, and if being part of creating something as a team is something you would enjoy, then I think this might be the campaign for you. Also, this will be Free to Play, despite what I consider to be a considerable amount of quality work and time I've invested into this. I did that because I love doing this stuff and my reward for my time will be what little money I may or may not end up making by selling my Campaign Guide. If any revenue comes from the streaming itself, that will be divided amongst the group as a whole and we can discuss stuff like that when and if it becomes relevant. My concern here is not money, but creating something of worth and having a fun time doing it. I'm looking for people with a similar mindset.
i'd be interested. i generally play Quirky characters with their own stories, that i will likely discuss at length with you for it. it generally depends on the party, as i like to fill to help members. I am by no means a "serious" toned character, but i can be if the situation calls for it. i do have a few voices that i've used, but that was for a human, which i've generally banned myself from using. send me a message if you wanna talk on discord!
interested. but would need more info on the rules. have a character idea ready.
It certainly sounds interesting. I play Hero System(Champions) and not D&D, if that makes any difference. I don't know that I'm a good player, as people all have differing definitions, but I like my characters to have, well, character . I have manners too well ingrained in me, so I'm the type of player that can rarely be heard from because I won't interrupt until I get comfortable with people.
I'm interested in this. I like how you're approaching this. Count me in. I am a longtime gamemaster. I began playing D&D in the 80s, changed to Star Wars in the 90s, ran 7th Sea in the 00s, and a smattering of different systems since then. I rarely find the opportunity to play so I'm an eager player. I am a family man, so my availability for gaming runs into the late hours. I feel I am a team player, who will work for the party and for the players. I like to be accommodating and I am easy to get along with. As an amateur writer, I give characters a rich background, a life lived. As a former stage actor, I give characters a voice and an engaging personality. I don't go overboard, but rather will match the level of activity of the group.
I'll go ahead and throw my hat in the ring as well. I made a pretty extensive post for what I'm like and what I'm looking for in a group here: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/7129292/lfg-two-experienced-players-looking-for-a-story-driven-rp-campaign-mondays-slash-tuesdays-12pm-pst-plus/?pageforid=7140104#post-7140104 It is worth noting that I have no actual play experience with 5th edition specifically, although I have watched both seasons of Critical Role to current (only noting to show I've seen the rules in action), have skimmed over the basic rules and changes, and have played every other edition of D&D and Pathfinder. I'm willing to put in some work to fill any gaps in my knowledge as necessary, mostly since I don't think it'll be that big of a shock to switch to 5E. Briefly about me, I have the better part of two decades worth of tabletop under my belt and I am very keen on role play. I tend to spend a lot of time and effort crafting my characters, while being mindful to leave appropriate hooks that the GM can grab hold of in my back stories. I do character voices and tones, unique to each of my characters. Even more importantly, each character I've played is different from other characters I have played, with distinct personalities, ways of thinking, and feelings. I am very good at communicating both with players and the GM whenever I have questions, ideas, or issues. I consider myself a team player who is very focused on helping the party achieve their goals, while having goals of my own that I pursue and try to include other players in. I also believe that I am mechanically proficient in the sense that I know how to put characters together and know what direction they should go in addition to being able to play them in role play. There's more to say, I'm sure, but I'll point to the link I listed along with the wall of text contained therein. I'll happy answer any questions you have, either by message, post, or Discord. The days listed in my post are restrictive for my friend; if I were playing by myself I have a more flexible schedule.
I have an interest in this project. I'll message you for more details.
Creating interesting and unique characters and crafting their (in conjunction with the collective) story as part of a team effort is something that, frankly, I live for. Speech patterns, mannerisms, all of it are things that are an absolute MUST for me to be able to enjoy the experience. This is far more important than game mechanics or utilizing the best spell/ability/whatever to deal with an issue. Taking into account what would occur to the character themselves takes priority. Sometimes this means doing something that makes a task stupidly easy... other times turning it into an absolute (though hilarious) catastrophe through a series of well intentioned, albeit poorly executed, actions. I've got so many stories I can share about moments that illustrate both extremes quite well. Pretty much everything I create tends to be... odd. Not odd in the sense of throwing a dozen different templates and classes together to create an absolute monstrosity of WTF... but odd in the sense of taking two things you'd think would be mutually exclusive in an individual and blending them together into a unique new creation. Sort of like Chocolate + Peanut Butter, or other combinations that sound like they ought not work together at all but end up complimenting each other in unexpected ways. All of the best concepts I've developed always started off as an amusingly absurd thought that, once pinned down with ink on paper and tested out a few times to see what happens in practice, end up as 'real people'. Everyone has some sort of story about their life that, when told to an outsider in a particular manner, can seem to be completely implausible and you'd call shenanigans on if it were in a movie. Yet there they are, still a 'real and serious' person and that was a thing that happened. That is what I try to make and bring into characters every chance I get. I've never been a fan of traditional, generic reasons for adventuring. Especially in fantasy/D&D settings. Going forth to seek your fortunes, fulfill a prophecy, extract revenge.... nah. I like the more personal touch, and I don't just mean 'personal grudge/vendetta' either. I mean the sorts of winding, convoluted paths that real life sets us down all the time where you start off aiming for one thing and then somehow end up doing something so unrelated to that original path and you have no idea how, why, or even when things got so far off track as to be unrecognizable from The Plan.. but yet wouldn't trade it for the world. I know this isn't a D&D example, but, take for instance the very first VtM LARP character I made and played. Everyone else had over the top origin stories that required a good deal of suspension of disbelief to account for plausibility. Mine? I thought of the most realistic way that I, myself, real life ME, could be turned into a vampire. The answer was simple: online best friend, finally met up in real life, got told that the supernatural was real, was shown proof, and outright demanded 'sign me up!' because hell yea. Of course there was regret later because "Oh man, NOW you tell me that MAGIC and stuff is real too and I could have been a freaking wizard instead?! Ugh.... should have shopped around first before 'buying the first supernatural expansion pack to reality' I found." Because tell me you can't see that exact scenario playing out in real life if vampires actually existed. THAT is the sort of story I love best... the perfect intersection of real and surreal.
Hi there! If you're looking for two people who love to RP, my girlfriend Erica and I would certainly be interested. We have about 2 years experience with 5e and we both love to build relationships in-character with other players and Npcs and find social solutions to in-game problems, because we feel as though when you take time to do that, it can make events that are just as memorable as big set piece boss fights, though we love those as well. Because we don't have many people who are into the hobby in our area , we have been running games with some family members with me as the DM, we just finished Lost Mines of Phandelver. I changed a lot of the encounters and characters backstories and motivations to make for a few more RP opportunities because that adventure is lacking in those departments haha But our group isn't prone to RP in general and we feel as though we want a campaign to let our imaginations run free, as it were. And it's been over a year since we have been able to play together, and since I have been able to play as a PC. I enjoy running games but there's something about being able to influence a campaign through what I decide to do or not to do that I really miss. And I've been scouring this website to find a group for us that will let us do that. To no success. I have several character concepts complete with backstories and some with voices that are ready to go, because I wish that I have had opportunities to play them, to no avail. And I enjoy having my characters' choices be swayed by their history and motivations as opposed to "okay someone wants to do this so we're gunna do it even though my character wouldn't want to" if that makes sense. Adversity and disagreement provides a depth of story that everyone getting along doesn't, so I'm not opposed to disagreeing with other players. For my gf Erica, she likes to have characters with backstory, but she likes to play the game as if her own personality were influenced by that backstory, and granted that she's hilarious and a huge dork, it usually ends up being enjoyable antic nonsense, but she also has a real capacity for forming tender moments as well, and she really enjoys things like having her characters form relationships with Npcs or PCs, be they romantic and otherwise (and we don't get mad at each other for RPing that way, so you don't have to worry about that.) And just because we are an IRL couple does mean we are going to force our characters to date. If our characters don't form a bond naturally then it won't happen, so you won't have to deal with psuedo-PDA or anything. Haha And plus because we are both living together if you take us both into your group it'll make scheduling much easier, because our schedules are already pretty lined up, and as of right now we have more or less open availability to be able to play so locking down a date with us would be fairly easy. Anywho sorry for the text wall, we just adore d&d and we are hoping to find a group that loves it as much as us, that will want to forge a story between characters that means something, not just a group that rolls dice until they beat the villain. (Though we DO love rolling the dice haha) Thanks for your consideration, and we hope to hear back from ya soon. (Also I'm not this formal in real life so don't be put off by it, JUST saying 😅 ) -James
Could you tell me a little bit about the rule system you're creating and what tested?
Player Name: Robert Age: 36 Timezone: Pacific Standerd Time D&D Experience: I played since high school Availability: Always available because I am between jobs. I will be presint for all games. Contact my at: Discord#2734 Play Style: I love sandbox games and I love exploration. I like having player-driven goals and I'm very self-motivated. I like being able to assert my character I want the story in an impactful way. I've been meaning to try hexcrawl. About me: I first became interested in role-play games while I was sitting in Saturday school as a young child watching satanic-panic propaganda videos in a Methodist church. I found the videos to be so hilarious and fun that I decided to try to find a game to play in as soon as possible. I later decided to experiment with the Mormon church and found a group of gamers in the priest group. The guys in the priest group and I became friends quickly and I learned that they had a D&D game running and I asked to join. My first game master was named Mark and his style was a cross between narrative and sandbox. How he created a game is that he would write a narrative, and if a player decided to do something that went against his narrative he would encourage it rather than trying to block player character influence in the story and I appreciated that. After High School I decided to permanently leave organized religion and be agnostic. I decided to maintain my new hobby of playing tabletop role-playing games. Sample character: (I am willing to make changes.) I'm a high elf from a crystal Spire City I followed one of my parents advice and joined a religious order dedicated to that Elvin Divine Patron. The life of a priest not fully satisfying me I gave into my wonderlust and we doing an adventure. On my Adventures I became infatuated with a human woman. Spending some time in per City we developed a mutual appreciation for one another and started to imagine spending more time together. In an unplanned night of passion we began a child together. In the following months to come our indiscretion became known. My woman friend fearing the label of adulterer due to producing a child without marriage she made plans for and announced her desire to abort the child. My failing to argue for the life of the child and my unwillingness to allow harm to come to a life that I am responsible for gave me conviction to preserve the child. Determined to keep the child safe I declare to my brief lover that as soon as a child was old enough to travel I would leave with the child and not return. I convinced her with the promise that the child would live separate from her in a home that I would keep for myself and the child. When they travel to reach the age of two I decided not to delay our departure and decided to Adventure back to the crystal Spires of my home City. Returning home I was greeted with some curiosity as to why I had returned with a human child. Despite my efforts to conceal a child with me it's presents with me was obvious. I can fight it in my trusted cousin but I had returned with a child old and requested of her that she care for and protect the child while I continue my duties as a priest. Time passed in my cousin began to school to me for coming back with a human child and concealing the child from the order of priesthood that I served. My cousin brought the presence of the child to the attention of my parents and then my parents brought the fact that I had returned with a child to the city's ruling Council. Non elves are not welcomed in our nation's cities. I was frankly told that I must take the child out of the city and not to return with the child again. I was told with a small amount of compassion that I would be welcomed again when I was no longer responsible for the child. I prepare to leave live with conviction that I would remain loyal to my son and I would not abandon him. I prepared for permanent leave from my home and from the religious order. With reluctant confidence that I had adequately prepared myself and my son for a uncertain Journey I walked to the main gates and stood by the doorway pondering what I would make of Our Lives and by what conditions If Ever I might return to my former home. This part of my journey is still Unwritten... - Character details: Neutral good, loyal, honest, conservative in battle, prefers to avoid violence. Sometimes brutally honest. My character wishes to avoid combat as much as possible and prefers to use the least amount of force possible.

Introduction Hello I'm Aaron, after reading through your post i can see we share a lot of similarities in the way of ambitions. I've been a GM for over 12 years at this point, I've developed homebrew content for a variety of systems including one of my own design i built from the ground up. I've begun preparation for my own YouTube channel dedicated to actual plays and hypothetical lists/features within role-playing. I'd love the opportunity to be a part of someone else's journey as well and hope a networking connection could be developed. Additional/contact info : 27 years old, availability is anytime Monday or Thursday. SinisterOmen#9586 is my discord Playstyle First and foremost I'm a Role-player, i have been finding that my definition of that compared to others is a bit different. When i make a character, NPC, villian or what have you, i make a person. This includes ambition, behaviours and what caused them, vices, strengths, struggles and of course a seperate voice apart from my own. My goal as a player will be to always tell a good story whether that's a personal growth point, a main plot arc or showcasing another player character's struggles. I can facilitate the leader role, but honestly I've been looking to play more of an accent wall type of character, one who brings out traits in others good, or bad. I like to say I'm humorous at times, and feel i could be a valuable asset in the entertainment market, without trying to constantly crack jokes or "put on a show" for the cameras so to speak. I take things seriously when it comes to what I'm passionate about, so maintaining a professionalism when it comes to critiques, or suggestions for the improvement of listeners will be taken to heart. In closing i hope to hear from you, i have a few raw audio recordings of my actual play if you're looking to get a feel for my skill level. I haven't edited in any of the bells or whistles yet, as I'm trying to make custom music for it. So it's not a finished product
Hello I'm Drusi. I am 34 years old and I play characters. I like to write extensive backstories and let see how it interacts with the world. I love experiencing other character's stories and really learning who they are. I want to play in a living breathing world that I can explore and discover the little things about. I like working with the DM and other players to create interwoven characters that I can experience. So yes what you wrote sounds like the perfect game for me. My discord info is Drusi#0593 and I am free on Mondays and Thursdays. A little about my playstyle. I like to observe and act. I want to notice the details. I try to balance my actions with those of the group. I try to do what my character would do first and what would make for a good story second. I like to stay in character as much as possible, but my characters will be humorous at times if the mood is right. My only weakness is voice acting, I am still practicing voices but it is something I have a great deal of trouble with.
Hello, I’m Kat! The main reason that I love D&D is because of the characters everyone comes up with and the story that we all make together. When I make a characters I try to flesh them out as much as I can, giving them goals and flaws and beliefs to make them a believable and lived in person. The dynamics and relationships that we make along the way is the best thing to me and make a game worth playing. My favourite thing is getting involved in roleplay and trying to include others into it when I can. Because of this I tend to make characters that are friendly and conversational as well as some mystery to them. A backstory is always something I look forward to discovering, whether it’s my characters or others, because it adds so much flavor to the world and the PCs.I already have a few ideas for characters that I'd be happy to discuss and work out which would be best to fit in with the group, though I have a soft spot for bards, or any kind of magic user really. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask!
Sent out invitations to you all. Still searching.
Real name should be obviously xD day time manager, night time GM/Amdram (Amatuer Dramatics) participant. Rare occasions I get to play (because no one wants to GM everyone wants to be murder hobos) but would be interested in this for sure.
Name: Nicohle C. History: Played dnd since I was 10 years old, started out with a lawful good fighter, and never played one again after that experience. I became a gm because I took turns gming with my brothers and my mother. We played all the time. Incessantly. It even became part of our homeschooling regiment. I have over 19 years experience with a few different systems, almost all of the D&D systems, Paranoia, White Wolf, Vampire the Masquerade, Changeling the Lost. Play style: I do my best to stay in character as often as I can. But I need other people to play off of. This group sounds amazing because I'll be able to work within both the world and the other characters to make a story worth LIVING. I want to immerse myself in the experience, to enjoy the escapism. I will admit, I have no formal acting training. I don't have distinct voices, but I do do this thing where I try to match my voice to who my character is. Schedule: I can only manage later things. I'm MST and I have kiddoes away until at least after 7-8pm every day. After that, though, I'm usually free. I hope you'll consider me. <3 Niki
Heya, my name is Eli. I'm 27 years old and have been playing 5e for over a year through 2 separate campaigns with my friends. I've been looking for a third game because there's no such thing as too much D&D. I enjoy the RP aspects of the game an coming up with (or at least attempting to) fun and interesting characters. Having a character with their own unique personality and voice is fun for me and I enjoy using accents and tones to bring the character to life. My play style varies depending on the group I'm playing with but I'll never be a murderhobo even if playing a darker character. If you have any other questions for me please, let me know. My discord is BlackWaltz47#5926.

Hello, my name is Nate or Nadpu. A little about me: I'm 26 years old from Georgia, USA. I really enjoy RPGs, MMORPGS and Fantasy in general. My first dive into fantasy and fantasy games was around age 7, when I played "Hero Quest" with my older brother and cousin. Ever since then I've been hooked on Fantasy. I started playing D&D for the first time 5 years ago. I like to have good times and good laughs. I'm really big on respect and I can pretty much get along with anyone. My Experience: I know a good bit about D&D. I played 3E and 3.5E for around 2 years under a very rule heavy DM, who required his players to know the rules before playing. So I'm used to reading and knowing the rules beforehand. Since my experience with 5E is limited to my roll20 experience I've had a decent amount to learn since there's been a lot of simplifications, changes and streamlining of the rules/game, I'm fairly comfortable with 5E now. Plus being able to look up things in a PDF is way easier than in a book. I have a little more than 380+ hours on Roll20 so far. What I'm looking for: I'm looking for a group that runs long campaigns, short campaigns and modules. I prefer a group that allows some homebrew and has some table rules of their own. Running between 3-5hour long sessions. Preferably all with the same players (4-6) because I feel that having the same people coming back week after week and campaign after campaign is really important and makes the game a lot of more fun. I'm not a Meta gamer when it comes to D&D. I want to enjoy a character and a story with some friends, I want some awesome RP between characters and NPCs and some epic combat every now and then. So character and story progression is very important to me. As much as I like seeing my own character progression, I enjoy seeing my fellow players experiencing theirs as well. What you can expect from me: As a player, I'll be 20-25 minutes early to every session. 24hr* minimum notice if I can't make it to a session (excluding emergences). To be prepared with notes and my character sheet ready for each session. No arguing with DM rulings, events, rolls, character actions/choices. Respect for the other players at the table. Eagerness to RP and do voices for my characters. Time zone and Availability: I'm currently EDT (GMT -5). My availability currently is Monday-Sunday (Excluding Wednesday) Noon-6pm and 8pm-1am (A bit odd, but I work a split shift at the moment.) After a few months, that availability time will change to 7pm-1am*. Communication: I would like a group that does Voice and Video, I feel that brings a more authentic tabletop feel. I'm okay with Voice only though. I'm fine with using any VOIP program. Character Concept: I would like to hold on to any concepts until I know more about your world. I generally try to play a variety of character types, not wanting to fall into a niche. I’ve learned how to pace personal character growth because of that. Too often, when I first started playing, I would have a shy character (or something like that) that by the 2 nd session was seemingly cured of their shyness. I would say that I'm interested in trying out the warlock class, as I haven't had a decent chance to yet. But, I'm happy to fill a "role" if it looks like something is really needed. If you feel I would make a good fit in your group or have any questions for me, please feel free to PM on roll20 or message me on Discord @ Nadpu#8499. Thank you for taking the time to read this! Happy rolling!
I very much enjoy the rp side of the game. Usually I play bard or characters that are interesting and not the norm. For example cleric who doesn't heal but quotes from a Bible which he made up and tries to convert people to that religion etc. I'm experienced and very keen to find a group. My only issue is time or dates on playing
Hi! I am totally bad player not able to play anything even though I play RPGs for many years. My most belowed system/setting is old Vampire: the Masquerade, which I also STed for years. What characters do I play? I like to play more cold-hearted characters but I am against no fun. What time zone are you from? I am from GMT+1. If you are interested for one more looser, feel free to contact me. ;-) Thx
