Hello, I'm looking to either add a new game or find some new people who share a similar approach to this hobby. Maybe if enough people come together, we can make a game of it. I've been at this for many years, both running and playing in many games. I enjoy games filled with troubled, complex characters with relatable personalities, goals, and ambitions. Movies are my main inspirational resource and I try to make games feel like them. In my head, I tend to frame RP situations in terms of shots, scenes, or story arcs instead of turns, quests, or modules. I might even say things like “the camera zooms on my character's face to show a bead of sweat running down their brow before they stammer and say...” I prefer when play stays fiction-first (e.g. “I grab a vase off the table and charge toward the bandit, smashing the vase down on his wrist to knock the gun out of his hand”) as opposed to rules-first (e.g. “I move 4 squares and use my disarm special move to deal 3 damage and disarm them”). This approach can break down when combat takes 10 rounds, but I take that to be a knock against having 10 round combats, not against the style. I've been considering getting back into D&D, although the combat-focused nature of the game has so far deterred me. I'd try it again if the game and players were right, but I'd be picky about which game I join. Mostly I play character-driven rules-lightish games. I know a lot of systems and learning new ones isn't an issue. I aim to be respectful and demand it of others I play with. If you prefer to avoid certain groups of people or think that having women in your game gives you permission to harass them, in or out of character, please skip me (and grow up). There's more info on my style of play in my bio if you're curious. If you're someone with a similar perspective and either have a game in mind, wish to stay in contact for something in the future, or meet others who share your attitudes, leave a message here and/or PM me. If there's enough interest, I can setup a discord server so we can keep in touch for recruitment or commiseration or whatever.
HI OriJinal. Couldn't agree more, cannot stand 'rats and mazes' games and magical cheese hoarding. Prob a long shot, but are you within the utc/gmt +12 - +8 timezones? I've been trying to find narrative focused players for an old school game of Vamp. Cheers, Daruma.

If you were into text style of games, I have a community of like minded gamers.
Check this out, let me know if it interests you. https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/7141144/lfps-harnmaster-3rd-weekdays-est-looking-for-mature-rpers-who-want-to-exercise-their-noggins-not-their-dice While I prefer an almost simulation approach to combat, its deadly enough that combat will be short and bloody, best to be avoided actually (you know, kinda like in real life). I would like to GM a campaign that requires the players to use their planning and diplomatic skills more than their "click die roll button" skills. However, the campaign will be martially focused (bringing peace and prosperity to an otherwise wild and untamed land).
I've never been in a game like you described but I do really love the narrative/RP aspect of the game. I only really do 5e myself. I like having a character with a good balance of strengths and flaws that make sense for her. Ideally, everyone in my group has their niche or purpose and it all balances out. I'd love to keep in touch for a possible future game, but I don't have anything in mind ATM aside from a game I'm seeking a DM for. It's too bad Roll20 doesn't have a friends system.
I’m definitely going to throw my hat in the “wish to stay in contact for something in the future” and the “meet others who share these attitudes” hats. I am on GMT+0, and am absolutely eager to make connections via a discord server. Looking at your bio, we share a lot in common. I find flawed protagonists, or just characters who aren’t the best at what they do, to be more far more interesting than being the exceptional one. I really enjoy the social-first approach, and building character relationships. I think it is far more interesting to gain followers by actually earning their loyalty or recruiting them rather than by taking the Leadership feat at level 6 or 7. For combat, I find boss-battles tedious, I’m much more interested in the kind of encounters that can either be avoided or made one-sided by careful preparation before the fight even begins. To borrow from the Dresden Files, if you ever find yourself in a fair fight, someone screwed up.

I'm UTC-6 (CST timezone), so unfortunately gaming with Daruma or Canniborc will be difficult, but that's no reason not to stay in contact. If nothing else, perhaps those times will work for someone else I know. Pat: I've played one text game. I found it a good exercise to work out one's descriptive muscles, but I felt the slower pace undermined the improvisational component of the game, which I really enjoy, so I'm not usually excited about text games. Can you sell me on it? Todd: I just briefly checked out Harnmaster. From reviews, it reminds me of GURPS, which is also very simulationist. I prefer my action cinematic and your suggestion that players play two characters due to the high lethality speaks of a game that isn't for me. I'll pass. Thank you for the offer, though. Jendi: From your msg and your bio, I'll say that what I really enjoy is when *players* have narrative control. I find the scripted set-pieces of modules pales in comparison to a sandbox game. As a player, I want to know my choices matter and as a GM I don't want to tell *my story*, I want to be surprised at how *the story* unfolds. I've also received responses via PM. I'm omw out the door right now and am busy tonight, but I'll msg people back tomorrow. To anyone else out there reading this who may be interested, please let me know.
