Campaign hangs on loading screen, normal fixes inneffective

It has stayed on the loading screen for many minutes (I didn't time it exactly, but it was at least 3 minutes) without loading the campaign. My friend was able to get into the campaign no problem from his machine approx. 2000 miles away, so I know the site and the campaign are working, I just can't access them from my machine. I took the log, and here's what it says: Consider using 'dppx' units instead of 'dpi', as in CSS 'dpi' means dots-per-CSS-inch, not dots-per-physical-inch, so does not correspond to the actual 'dpi' of a screen. In media query expression: only screen and (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2), not all, not all, not all, only screen and (min-resolution: 192dpi), only screen and (min-resolution: 2dppx) TB.setLogLevel(5) TB.min.js:32 TB.setLogLevel(5) TB.min.js:32 OpenTok JavaScript library v2.0.18 TB.min.js:32 Release notes: <a href="http://www.tokbox.com/opentok/webrtc/docs/js/release-notes.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.tokbox.com/opentok/webrtc/docs/js/release-notes.html</a> TB.min.js:32 Known issues: <a href="http://www.tokbox.com/opentok/webrtc/docs/js/release-notes.html#knownIssues" rel="nofollow">http://www.tokbox.com/opentok/webrtc/docs/js/release-notes.html#knownIssues</a> TB.min.js:32 TB.setLogLevel(5) TB.min.js:32 70 app.js?1393254376:21 TOUCH SUPPORTED: false app.js?1393254376:22 USING WEBGL ACCELERATION... app.js?1393254376:22 Switch mode to select app.js?1393254376:17 Initializing new dice engine with ranomness... app.js?1393254376:31 Using random entropy app.js?1393254376:31 window resize app.js?1393254376:33 UPDATE GL SIZE! app.js?1393254376:22 tuts loaded tutorial_tips.js:7 event.returnValue is deprecated. Also note: I already went through and cleared my cache, and have no extensions at all.
Lee, can you post a screenshot? Please include the whole browser window. In addition, are you only having trouble with this one campaign or with others as well?
Is there a program or method I can use to post that? I have tried everything I know of, and I am unable to post that as yet.
To post a screenshot: Line up everything you want in the image on your screen the way you want it shown; you'll be taking a picture of the entire screen, including the edges, not just the contents of the window. Hit the PrtScn button (Next to F12 on most keyboards); this copies the screen to your clipboard. Open any image program (MS Paint works just fine for this) Select PASTE to take what's in your clipboard and make it into a new image Save that image as a .jpg (good compression/quality ratio) Upload it in your reply using this button here: And BOOM! Done. -Phnord
Thanks for doing that, Lee. Are you having the same problem with all campaigns or just that one?
I have also had this problem with a campaign that was not a Mentor run campaign, i.e. a free game by a non-paying GM. I was eventually able to get on like 20-30 minutes later though, and since that campaign is no longer active, I kind of forgot about it. I was also on Win 7, but using Firefox. Anyway Lee, you aren't crazy :), it has happened to others as well.
I'm having this issue as well in Chrome, with my dev server campaign. Firefox opens it just fine.
I am a supporter level member, this has been happening now for about a week. This is the only website giving this level of grief. On this campaign I am running and in others I am just a player in. I have this hanging on loading the tabletop in the following browsers: Firefox 27.0.1 Chrome 33.0.1750.146 Opera 20.0 I have periodically rebooted my whole system and gotten it to work but this is an issue with only this site, across multiple browsers I have cleared cache and cookies, I have gone through disk cleanup (running Win7) to purge old temp files because one might be screwing with this. I am open to looking at something else and my friends are not having this issue but they don't live in the same town I do. Thanks, Brian
All right, everyone who's having this problem, could you do me a favor and post your console log? If you're not sure how to do it, it's step 4 on this page. Thanks!
My *guess* is that for some reason you aren't establishing a connection to Firebase (the real-time sync provider we use). If you open your Network tab (same process as opening up the Console, just a different tab) you may see a request or two in there that's either red/erroring out or is hanging and never completing...let me know if you do as that will help narrow down the problem.
I was sent here from my own post, was told I my issue is similar to this one. <a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/698945/pc-works" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/698945/pc-works</a>... Here is a screen capture of my network tab if that will help.
Sarah A. said: Thanks for doing that, Lee. Are you having the same problem with all campaigns or just that one? I only have that one campaign so far. I'll try starting another one in a little bit.

And I'm betting that did nobody any good... Anyone have some advice for this noob as to how to properly post my network tab as Riley D. suggested? lol!
So I just tried to start a new campaign, and it hung up in loading too.
Extend the tab so it covers most of the screen, then do a screen grab like I did.
So here's my "Network" tab. Three pages worth...
So... Not sure what program did it, but I got it figured out. I noticed that I had this "Searchassist" pop-up happening every so often with what seemed like certain websites. Turned out it just popped something up every so often. So that prompted a google search, which turned up a program named Searchassist (total misnomer, as it didn't "assist" me at all), which led to me going through my installed programs looking for anything new that I didn't recognize. Turns out there were at least 4 programs that I didn't know I had downloaded and didn't want. Uninstalled them, rebooted, and now the site works! YAY!!!! :)
Grats! Wish mine was that easy! Hope there is something that can be done; I'd rather not have to take my PC to my friends to run the game...and will need to buy a wireless for my PC :P
Ahh, I got it fixed. I needed to add app.roll20.net to my security permissions on Firefox.
Or, it did..... I was able to log on successfully once, but now it is locking again. Cleared the catch and all that as well, Still pfts
so i can connect once, then I get 'disconnected' and can't do anything. When I can get a screen shot of that I will, but here is a new updated console log, my network is up above. Any help would be much appreciated. Is there something I can do to make sure I connect and stay connected to the Firebase? There is a UPDATE GL SIZE message that keeps showing up, do I need to do something about that? If so, how would I go about doing that? Appreciate any help, thanks.

Tyler, have you tried all the steps on this page?: <a href="https://wiki.roll20.net/Solving_Technical_Issues" rel="nofollow">https://wiki.roll20.net/Solving_Technical_Issues</a> Also, if you could check your network tab, and let us know if you're seeing any issues, that would be helpful (Ctrl+Shift+I in chrome and then choose the second tab).
Im having the same problems. Tried the normal fixes and also changing computers and OS. No success. Im sending some of the required screenshots, I hope it helps. ps:I also hope im not dual posting.
@Lucas: Yours seems to be a different issue -- one of hte required Javascript files isn't loading and so you're never even attempting to connect. My guess is this is just a cache issue or a temporary network issue. Try clearing your cache and reloading in a bit and I bet it will clear itself up. If not please let us know. @Thomas: What "security permissions" did you modify? And the "UPDATE GL SIZE" just happens when you resize the window (opening the console would trigger it as well), it's just an informational log for us, you can safely ignore it.
I added app.roll20.net, static.firebase.com to the security exceptions of firefox. I don't know if it helped or not though. I am still able to like log on, then after like 2 minutes, the connection gets interrupted and am unable to reconnect for hours, as I meantioned above.
I'm also having problems, which just started. I was able to play fine a few weeks ago. I'm on Windows 8, running Chrome 33.0.1750.154 m. I've been able to join briefly, but then I get booted shortly thereafter. Here's a copy of my console log (assuming I did it right) after I try to join a campaign: Console Log Consider using 'dppx' units instead of 'dpi', as in CSS 'dpi' means dots-per-CSS-inch, not dots-per-physical-inch, so does not correspond to the actual 'dpi' of a screen. Nicholas A, just to be sure, have you tried all the steps on this page?: <a href="https://wiki.roll20.net/Solving_Technical_Issues" rel="nofollow">https://wiki.roll20.net/Solving_Technical_Issues</a> Also, if you could check your network tab, and let us know if you're seeing any issues, that would be helpful (Ctrl+Shift+I in chrome and then choose the second tab).
The "event.returnValue is deprecated" is just a warning and doesn't have anything to do with this, for what it's worth.
@Sarah A - Tried all the steps. When I restart my computer, I can sometimes join a campaign, but as soon as I leave a game, it will hang. For what it's worth, my wife, whose computer is right next to mine, isn't having any issues. I have next to no extensions in chrome as well. This is what I get with the ctrl+shift+I:
Everyone who has had this issue so far has fixed it by turning off either an extension, a firewall, or a piece of malware/adware installed on their computer. Check your Programs and Features control panel to make sure there's nothing installed you don't recognize. Run a malware scanner. If you have an antivirus or a firewall, disable it. It's definitely something on your computer interfering with things, especially if you have another computer on the same network that can connect without issue.
well, SafeSearch was removed (dang conduit :P) and then turned off the firewall and virus checker, even checked for malware and did a scan. Still no dice (no pun intended there btw).
fwiw, uninstalling and reinstalling Java, along with using malwarebytes, seems to have me back up and running.
Java uninstalled and reinstalled. Still no dice. :(
so i was able to connect to campaigns for a short time though connecting directly via cat-5, but even then it drops me, Same with at friends house, using the WI-fi, I was able to connect to the campaign for about 10 minutes and then i got disconnected from the campaign and could not reconnect.
I am having the same Issue, I followed all the steps on the technical issues page, I uninstalled and re installed Chrome and Java. When I reboot my computer it lets me in for about one minute and then it tells me I lost connection to the server and I cannot edit my maps anymore. Kenneth, is this a problem with one campaign or multiple campaigns? Have you tried using Firefox?
I have a very similar problem. I'm in chrome, have no extensions, and simply cannot get past the loading countdown. I've tried with multiple campaigns. I just started using this site yesterday, and still haven't been able to actually make a campaign, or play anyone else's for that matter. The Firebase folks asked me to have everyone who is still experiencing this issue visit <a href="https://www.firebase.com/test.html" rel="nofollow">https://www.firebase.com/test.html</a> . This will run a test on your connection to Firebase. Copy + Paste the results here into a post and that may give us some further insight. Thanks!

Hey everyone, just so you know, i also sent my log to the <a href="mailto:support@firebase.com" rel="nofollow">support@firebase.com</a>. I have had a number of emails with Michael, and when the situation is solved, if it is, I will let you all know here.
We have a temporary workaround for this. After you go to join the game, your URL will change to "<a href="https://app.roll20.net/editor" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/editor</a>". When it does, change it yourself to "<a href="https://app.roll20.net/editor/?forcelongpolling=true" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/editor/?forcelongpolling=true</a>". Then press Enter. The page will reload and you should be able to load in to the game. The downside is you'll need to do this every time you join the game for now. Firebase is working on a long-term fix that they will hopefully have done in the next week or two so you won't need this workaround anymore, but for now this should get you playing at least. Let me know if you have success or not with this method. Thanks!
Awesome, thanks. Can take the laptop to the game now without needing to lug my desktop!
Thanks Riley. Got to use roll20 for first time today and it's awesome. Do you think you can put something in the settings to do this automaticly?
Hi all, I'm running Windows vista on mozilla and I was fine until yesterday when I installed "Foxit" PDF viewer. Since then I get the same hang screen at load in. Not only that but now some webbased videos won't load on other sites. Seems linked to this same issue. While the " <a href="https://app.roll20.net/editor/?forcelongpolling=true" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/editor/?forcelongpolling=true</a> " does get me into my campaign it doesn't explain the bigger issue going on. I've tried the following to no avail "Scanning for malware - Clearing cache - rebooting - fresh installs of Java & Flash Player - and running moxilla in safe mode." And none have fixed the issue. If anyone figures this out please post your findings. Thank you
