A way to reference frequently changing variables in a Handout? or Macros?

I want to create a GM handout that keeps me updated on characters' ever-changing skill pools in a Gumshoe game without having to check every single character sheet every single time. It doesn't look like I can add this sort of functionality to Handouts from reading the wiki and forums. Maybe I'd have to use journal command buttons and have one for each skill where it outputs each character's current pool and total rating for that skill in a whisper to myself? Any other options I'm not thinking of?

To get that information in a handout, you’d need an api script. Writing s macro or ability that whispers it to you is pretty straightforward, provided the formula is manageable (I don’t know Gumshoe): /w gm &amp;{template:default}{{name=Skill Pools}}{{Suzie=[[SOME FORMULA]]}}{{Bob=[[SOME OTHER FORMULA]]}} etc.&nbsp; More info in roll templates:&nbsp; <a href="https://wiki.roll20.net/Roll_Templates#Using_Roll_Templates" rel="nofollow">https://wiki.roll20.net/Roll_Templates#Using_Roll_Templates</a>
