[LFP] City of the Damned: New York (Vampire the Requiem 1st Ed New Wave 1985)

"I have all the characteristics of a human being: blood, flesh, skin, hair; but not a single, clear, identifiable emotion, except for greed and disgust. Something horrible is happening inside of me and I don't know why. My nightly bloodlust has overflown into my days. I feel lethal, on the verge of frenzy. I think my mask of sanity is about to slip." - Patrick Bateman, "American Psycho" It is a frenzied time in New York, a frantic decade that sees an empire fall, another slide into decay and indolence, and the paradigm shifts forever.  The Kindred fool themselves into believe that it is they who have brought about this celebration of the cult of self, that they are responsible for the great leaps made in the name of progress but the reality is that they are merely victims of time itself and can only hope to survive what is to come.  Japanese gadgets, post-punk synthwave, conservative Christian values, Reaganomics, and AIDS: all these influences conspire with the frenzied pace of 1987 New York to create a city that wallows in vice of every kind, worships greed eternal, shepherds the cult of celebrity and loses its soul in the neon glare of the rain-spattered streets.  A hedonistic Court is the only single force that is able to ensnare the depredations of the Damned and channel their worst instincts into reveling in the worse instincts of the kine.  The Countess and the Invictus oversees this new age but grow distant even while factions within the First Estate and without plot to take advantage of a distracted prince and threaten to tear the city, already roiling in long-simmering tensions, apart in the birthing pains of a new era. City of the Damned: New York portrays a very specific view of the 80's.  Everything you remember about the 80's in the U.S. is here from Raybans, big hair, to Members Only jackets and post-punk.  It's about a generation waking up from the Cold War and shaking off the last thirty years of oppressive religious mores and hard-nosed "standards" and being told that greed is good.  It's about over the top fashion worn by bands that want to be rebellious but still want to be showcased on a newly-minted MTV and sign record deals.  It's about the Soviet Union still trying to be the Evil Empire despite perestroika and glasnost.  It's the fear and terror inspired by AIDS and the technology invading our homes.  The zeitgeist is very playful and energetic but also frenzied and the Danse Macabre is no longer a somber waltz, but a power ballad that belts out emotional intensity with the elegance of a sledgehammer. This game looks sick@!  I would love to play a Ventrue Patrick Bateman/ Gordon Gecko type character!  I'm def looking forward to this, esp if you have created the same level of resources you did for the last game!!
Vic is a great guy. Smart, knowledgeable, great imagination, wonderful writer and a true fan of the WoD lore. Had a lot of fun playing with him, can't wait to do it again. Strongly recommend his games!
