Managing Art

I'm not clear on how art is stored. It looks like all Art Uploads are shown in the uploads list, unless moved into my Art Library. I can drag it into a Journal Handout, Character Sheet Avatar, or as a Token and link to a Character Sheet. If I delete it from the Art Uploads, it remains in those items... Until I refresh my browser. Then those items will show a broken image. I can drag it into an Art Library folder. Then, if I delete it from the Art Uploads list, it is removed from the Library folder immediately. My questions: How do you manage your art? Do you put it into a folder before you attach it to a character sheet? How about: Pictures stored in handouts? Background maps stored in pages? Trees and treasure chest tokens? These are the only ones that don't have any other place they are stored. My "uploaded art" list is fairly chaotic and I'd like to know the best way to manage it, or if I should just ignore it. Thanks!

I should have waited for an answer. I turned on the Art Filter, "Filter out items already in your library", and verified that the Recent Uploads list was shorter. I saw that some items were also in my Art Library folders, so I figured they were duplicates. I know I've accidentally uploaded some duplicates so this was plausible, so I deleted those items from the Recent Uploads list. Of course, it turns out they weren't duplicates and they were deleted from the Art Library and the Card decks that used them. Now I have to recreate the card deck. How do you know when art is duplicated, if you made that mistake? Or know if it's in use, and where?

As you have discovered, "Recent Uploads" is the true location for every image. If you delete it from there, you are deleting it from your Art Library. You can read more on the wiki: https://wiki.roll20.net/Art_Library#Recent_Uploads Further down the page is a suggested organization method: https://wiki.roll20.net/Art_Library#Optimal_Organization_Method

I think I don't understand what the "Filter out items already in your library" button does. I thought with that filter on, the Recent Uploads list wouldn't let me delete things in my other folders.

"filter out items" hides files you've put in folders, it's just so you can see what you havent organised yet, They are still effectively in your recent uploads section, just temporarily hidden while that flag is set.

It must have a bug, then. It showed some, but not all, items that were in folders. When I deleted those items figuring they were duplicates, it brought the pain. Heavy damage for me, but not fatal.

In any case, I have my art in these folders. Any suggestions for improvement? PCs Gear Bestiary NPCs Cards Handouts Maps Furnishings (trees, carts, wells, tables) Rules (screen shots of gear pages from the rule books, etc.) Scenes (pictures of castles, towns, etc) Ships (age of sail campaign)
